fyi just today [400mile trip] it SAVED Me times 6 , from the LAW warning me [check my speed/slow down] at long distance ranges in miles before running past Local State Patrols in Colorado.
Uniden dfr7 has saved my bacon many times. I leave it on highway, have k band set to narrow and set my speed to 30mph so I get no false alerts below that.
For a month or so I’ve been running the V1G2 with V1 Connection… I set the V1 to no k filter (none) & all bogies, then I set V1 Connection to silence the V1G2 completely, with a 2 bar threshold and with low speed muting on at 30mph. What I’ve noticed is that my k band alert distance has greatly improved! LEOs in my area run k very heavily. The low speed muting works like a charm as well… bsm might give a chirp every once in a while as I’m driving. Then when at lights surrounded by k… my low speed muting at 30mph just shuts it all off. I also run a concealed display off to the side, with my v1 running in dark mode… but when “alerts” come through v1 connection is set to flash the v1 so it grabs my attention. Like I said, I’ve noticed my k band distance greatly improved… and if I want to know what’s going on around me I can see my phone and my concealed display. Only thing I worry about is I/O that I may miss because of it possibly being weak and my v1 not chirping. I’d see it on my phone and concealed display if I was looking….
It makes me wonder what the R8 is capable of, since you ran the R8 with k filter on vs the V1G2 with its k filers off and the R8 still beat the V1 on k band. Like I said, I’m impressed with the detection of k band now… before, most times the LEO would be damn near on top of me with k filters on and in logic mode… now there is distance!! But, it may come at a cost with no I/O chirp if it’s under 2 bars.
Great video! I've had a V1 Gen1 since the early days, last upgraded in 2016. In fact, that upgrade made the thing so it had near-constant false alarms. It was so bad that I wrote an angry letter to Valentine about it... and the response I got was... disappointing. The employee (who didn't include their name of course) actually ripped me a new one for daring to send them an angry letter and would be happy to help IF I "changed my attitude." As a result I've never had anything to do with Valentine since, and never will again. That being said, after seeing this video, I think I'll be getting a Uniden R8. Way more features than the Valentine and better looking that than super-cheese new plasticky POS case of the Gen2 (clearly a cost-cutting design).
I've had my MaxCam 360 since launch and while it did have a rough start with that awful app, the hardware has proven itself worthy of the price point - specifically the radar detector portion.
I picked up a used R3 on ebay last week for a heck of a deal. $130!! It works awesome, and is way better than my old escort passport 5000 (only got it because some old guy sold it to me for $15 on FB marketplace, so not really a good radar detector at all lol)
@@VortexRadar Pretty much useless😂, got so many false alerts. I mainly used it alongside Highway Radar on my phone, so I could more accurate guesses as to where cops were running radar. @@Fisheee123ay look I’m in your area. Any recommendations on what I should look for. As you prolly know we can go from open highways to tight roads real quick. Just got my license and a car so I would prefer something on the cheaper end if possible.
Great review and valuable advice for the lower end detectors. I get by with a Beltronics RX-65 in Northern California. I drive on flat terrain, I-80 Auburn- Sacramento - San Francisco. I have K-band completely blocked out as there's no need for it (Ka band is used exclusevily by Calif.Highway Patrol- not counting laser). Since false alarms are only on K-band the old Rx-65 is still a decent performer for this specific state and use case. But, I have to admit cops use mainly Laser detection nowadays on I-80 in CA.
@@Put_U_Smooth In one of his videos Vortex mentions best radar detectors for each state according to typical police band use. California Highway Patrol is known to use exclusively Ka band. I know from personal 26 years of experience, frequently travelling between Reno and San Francisco, ...and always with a radar detector (!) that on I-80 from San Francisco up to the Nevada border, CHP uses Ka band exclusively. Thank you for the continious great reviews Vortex Radar! Ended up purchasing my R8 based off your reviews. I tried the Ecort 360c and it was way to sluggish even after following your guide on how to set it up and segmenting the KA bands. The R8 while nosier gives me about the range and confidence I am looking for and during the holidays the price is signicantly cheaper than the 360c. Also if you're a Tesla owner Sticker Fab makes an RJ11 cable to USB-C. I didn't want to hardwire mine because it's already got a dashcam going to the 12v. The AC plug that comes with either detector works but its an ugly setup. I have my detector mounted to the back of the display via a cell phone mount and a thick magnet from Scosche for a clean setup.

I didn't tell him I usually exceed the speed limit because I always exceed the speed limit, except in school zones. He said it's an easy ticket: $100, no points and doesn't show up on my driving record. To me, that means they are illegal since I would not have been stopped and ticketed if I did not have a detector.

i bought the Redline 360c and love it. It blew my mind when this past Summer driving up rt.93 in NH it went off and at first I did not know how I was getting tagged. I finally realized it was from an airplane ! I saw the icon lite up but didn’t understand what it meant … lol … As for distance… OMG …. It has saved my butt many times. I got it because after buying a 2019 C7 GS Vette I fine myself into the triple digits every time we go for a cruise 😂
I grabbed a Redline 360c with the black friday specials and when the sent it out I got one with a serial # starting with 1K instead of AA for the new version. I called them about it and am wondering if I should have it exchanged for the newest version?
K40 has gone after reviewers like in the past so it is possible, but the law is pretty clear that reviewers are allowed to say both good and bad things. That’s what reviews are all about. There are even anti-SLAPP laws to protect reviewers from lawsuits designed to silence them after sharing critical reviews. That said, there are things like libel and slander and so I ensure that my opinions are backed by verifiable test data. Ultimately I always aim to be both up front and fair with my reviews. IMO if they want a better review, they should build a better designed product.
Yep. In addition to losing the locking mechanism (which has saved me on multiple occasions), using USB for both power and data can lead to confusion with if the detector needs to boot up normally or go into firmware update mode. It doesn't always know so the DS1, for example, makes you press a special button combination when plugging it into your computer if you want to update the firmware. The computer otherwise won't see the detector at all, even when plugged in via USB. USB C is obviously newer, but not necessarily better in all ways.
Thanks guys- I just bought the $700 escort. Will help a lot on trips down hwy 5 from WA to CA. Borrowed a friends last month for that drive and saved me at least 4 times, although Waze had 3 of them posted already. ORE troopers are pretty sneaky!
After all this time watching your reviews, I ended up picking this one based on- the blue color, not a Uniden (my grandparents answering machine from Radio Shack), and the potential for better app and camera integration options.
While the RJ11 doesn't come lose, every detector I've had with it (in time) has ended up shorting where the cables enter the RJ11, causing the fuse to blow. Yes, it typically takes many times moving the detector and years for it to happen, but they all see to fail there requiring a new cord in time! Those with the flexible boot at the connector are much better.
The Batman detectors do not have an optical sensor to pick up laser. Those radar detectors with the Batman logo are worthless. Take one apart and you will see
Yeah no… Sorry, but their products are awful compared to the competition and consistently turn in bottom of the barrel results. Feel free to check out my previous tests and reviews. There’s a reason their detectors and jammers never show up on my recommended lists.
I can't decide between the redline 360c and Uniden r8. Im in Southern California, and had a Uniden r3 which I loved but I'd like something with arrows and more range. Any reason to pick one over the other? From watching your video I took from it that the better option would be the redline.
@@ahmedomer8282 Believe it or not I haven't yet. I want to be sure about my purchase, get a good amount of years out of it and not deal with any returning or swapping out. I'm leaning towards an escort360c mkii for the range, arrows, and bsm filtering.
Seems the best radar detector on the planet is the Uniden R4, but the prettiest I think goes to the V1G2. My old passport X50 use to be the best in the world but my buddies Uniden R3 smokes it in every category, just sayin, makes me realize how much technology has improved over the last 15 years 😢
I loved your review - thx. So I've been using a Rodenso for the past few years. Recently got a ticket on I-10 in LA from a local policeman sitting off the interstate - my detector never went off...very odd. Cost me in excess of $300. Beside the fact that it failed me in that instance, I also did not like the fact that I had to reach up to the detector to silence it when it was going off. I use to have a detector that I could silence at the dash plug. Do any of your top choices allow for an easier way to silence the box? Thx a million.
Sorry to hear about the ticket. Sounds like he might have been using laser and if so, no radar detector can reliably help. You’ll need laser jammers (or at least Waze) to help with that. As for the remote mute button, yeah all the modern recommended options offer that. :)
I wonder what unit would be best for Indiana the highend units seam like over kill as we do not have things like photo radar. I would like a unit that doesn't have a lot of false alerts. I have a basic unit over ten years old a newer unit that is not high priced would be best almost never go out of state, if I do it just over the border to KY, OH, IL any advise to a good price unit ???
I would watch his video reviews. He does a pretty good job highlighting pros and cons. I do believe the toll roads in Indiana have cameras or overhead radar.
It's crazy RD's have gotten to be $800 now. And yet Waze is still free and the best defense IMO. The best bang for the buck is a very good mid-level detector and Waze...
Hi. In my country we have many types of speed cameras on the roads. We have fixed and portable cameras that can detect your speed, lane, seat bealt, using your phone, etc Is there any item that can jam the signal of these camerass??? thanks
Still loving my R8, it has saved me more than enough to pay for itself. However, I did get popped with instant on recently… gotta watch out for that. I’ve been seeing it way more lately.
Greetings from Brazil. In my country, the most used device on highways is the Trucam, manufactured by Laser Technology Inc., could you recommend me a really good, efficient detector against this device?
Sorry but no. It would be good as a Ka only radar detector since the range is great, but it lacks modern false alert filtering for K band so it will false a ton. The laser side is also several generations older at this point and can’t handle the latest laser guns out there. It could work against some older guns though.
When you say the V1G2 without the app can't detect 'PHOTO cam' I presume you're talking about permanent fixed cam spots due to the lack of built in GPS? I ask because the mobile photo vans, cars etc I've seen so far use radar speed detection on Ka band which the V1 detects.
I’m not. I’m talking about some that use modulated K band radar like the MultaRadar and Gatso systems. Ka speed signs are a different story and you can use an app to lock those out so you don’t get alerted every time. You don’t have that option without an app.
@@VortexRadar holy shit I didn’t think you’d actually respond! Man first of all, your channel is awesome and anything I’ve purchased thus far has been because of your reviews/opinions! I’m finally gonna step up to the big boy detectors and I really like the Uniden R8, but you always give the Escort Redline 360c a slight edge…I’d rather spend the extra $100 if it’s worth it in your opinion. I just want the best possible counter-measures against a potential ticket!!
4:32 have to respectfully disagree. For the money and not even for the money, if you don’t need nor want arrows, R4 is best unit out there, bar none. Regularly outperforms my R8. Now, given all that, the best of all time is Theia. Bar none, absolutely wicked performance ;)
V1 gen2 is still as good as it get its a shame the other options don't integrate with jbv1. Its the only high end option for receiving alerts on your motorcycle helmet intercom.
Stay away from that outdated garbage (Valentine). Get a Uniden R3 and up... The only reason Valentine is still in business is because of their fan girls.
@@ar_2015 Not the same thing if you need it to work on a bike. I did like my uniden more for simplicity sake when motorcycle integration was not a concern. It's a shame they are not compatible with jbv1. The ancient v1g2 still does its job perfectly fine in my environment where Ka is the only threat. I feel confident when going 180 that there will be enough time to slow things down.
Just out of curiosity do you own a R8? I find the R8 to be a great detector compared to the RL360C which is a brick compared to the R8 also lacks the performance of the R8. Now the V1G2 if you do a side by side they weigh about the same there about the same size now performance wise they are right there with each other. The V1G2 is only a black box with arrows that makes noise for a 100 dollars less then the R8 and 200 dollars less than the RL360C if you don't run the V1G2 without an app like JBV1 OR V1 driver then you have no idea why the V1G2 is making noise. The V1G2 doesn't have GPS auto lockouts or a display to show the frequency of the radar that's being used so you can't determine if the threat is real or a BSM now i own the R8 RL360C and the V1G2 as well as a lot of others. I personally am not a big fan of the V1G2 for some of the reasons I mentioned above already but if im in my Maxima I run the V1G2 and JBV1 which i have a set of TMG-A17 in and they can all be controlled with JBV1
There’s affordable ones in the 250-300 range. Notably the R3. I have it, is amazing, costed me 260 bucks at Best Buy. Anything below $200 is risky. They just don’t work as well.
Did I miss the review of The Police Detector that magically finds police cars with microwaves? Probably the same people who sell the Rocky Mountain Radar products.

Interesting question… When was the last time you drove a car with no counter measures?
Most days I drive with no counter measures.

i bought the Redline 360c and love it.
I had a redline 360 that I had for a while and ended up selling in anticipation of the Theia "hype". 2.5 years later... lol
Oof lol
I grabbed a Redline 360c with the black friday specials and when the sent it out I got one with a serial # starting with 1K instead of AA for the new version. I called them about it and am wondering if I should have it exchanged for the newest version?
Nice video, i have a redline ci as you are aware, and it is Magnificent!!!
Great review. Brutal review. You ever worry about legal action from such folks as K40 and Rocky Mountain Radar?
K40 has gone after reviewers like in the past so it is possible, but the law is pretty clear that reviewers are allowed to say both good and bad things. That’s what reviews are all about. There are even anti-SLAPP laws to protect reviewers from lawsuits designed to silence them after sharing critical reviews.
That said, there are things like libel and slander and so I ensure that my opinions are backed by verifiable test data. Ultimately I always aim to be both up front and fair with my reviews. IMO if they want a better review, they should build a better designed product.
wemt by a state trooper shooting lazer and the R4 never went off .....that sucks
'
It’s too bad Radenso sold out and didn’t complete Theia.
PLEASE Please let us know why they still use landline phone jacks for power
Because RJ11 is reliable. It locks in and won't come loose while driving.
Those with the flexible boot at the connector are much better.
it would be so cool if waze added blutooth radar detector support
I really want the combo of dash cam and radar detector. Would you recommend either a R7 or R8 with the add on M2 cam or the escort max cam 360c?
The Batman detectors do not have an optical sensor to pick up laser. Those radar detectors with the Batman logo are worthless. Take one apart and you will see
haha I did that in my full review
still waiting on that Theia
One thing that should be mentioned...K-40 has phenomenal false signal rejection while still maintaining above average radar detection...
Yeah no… Sorry, but their products are awful compared to the competition and consistently turn in bottom of the barrel results. Feel free to check out my previous tests and reviews. There’s a reason their detectors and jammers never show up on my recommended lists.
What’s a good detector for $50?
Still have the r7 love it safe me for a ticket a lot
11:47 whata the point of a stealth detector? And why dont most people need one?
I can't decide between the redline 360c and Uniden r8. Im in Southern California, and had a Uniden r3 which I loved but I'd like something with arrows and more range. Any reason to pick one over the other? From watching your video I took from it that the better option would be the redline.
Which one did you decide to go with?
@@ahmedomer8282 Believe it or not I haven't yet. I want to be sure about my purchase, get a good amount of years out of it and not deal with any returning or swapping out. I'm leaning towards an escort360c mkii for the range, arrows, and bsm filtering.
Is your opinion what is the best but the most compact size.
The unicorn theia?
This man has saved us from thousands of tickets.
What power cord do you use to switch from the cigarette lighter to usb?
My uniden R8 is already having issues, and it’s like a month old 🙃
At this point I have accepted that Theia is dead and gone.
I'm not waiting for it anymore.
Hi.
In my country we have many types of speed cameras on the roads. We have fixed and portable cameras that can detect your speed, lane, seat bealt, using your phone, etc
Is there any item that can jam the signal of these camerass??? thanks
Would be nice to see which works best with iPhone or Android
(I have an Android head unit 🤫)
Still loving my R8, it has saved me more than enough to pay for itself.
However, I did get popped with instant on recently… gotta watch out for that. I’ve been seeing it way more lately.
Greetings from Brazil. In my country, the most used device on highways is the Trucam, manufactured by Laser Technology Inc., could you recommend me a really good, efficient detector against this device?
Ah so Uniden R8 still the best, got it
I got a vent mounted phone mount and now I get continuous falsa alerts. Which is the best option to stop that?
If you can get them at the same price what would you go with between the dfr7 and dfr9?
DFR9
I want to know is the 9500ci still better then the modern radar detectors or does the new ones decimate the 9500ci?
Sorry but no. It would be good as a Ka only radar detector since the range is great, but it lacks modern false alert filtering for K band so it will false a ton.
The laser side is also several generations older at this point and can’t handle the latest laser guns out there. It could work against some older guns though.
What ones are compatible with apple car play ?
Some of the Escorts and Cobras, but in practice it’s not a huge deal IMO.
Another year gone by #Pour1outforTheia
🍺
TY!
Ok, so which one of these detectors does its job the best...WITHOUT having to use third party software or a cell phone for whatever reason?
If you want to zero in on the best options, watch the video geared towards that.

You HAVE to be in my neighborhood because all of these shots come from roads surrounding me
I'm planning a trip across Pennsylvania passing through Pennsylvania turnpike, do you know which band pa state troopers use?
K ka and laser
Any Christmas give-aways?
My question is, is the Escort really worth the extra $100 over the Uniden R8?
For most people, probably. For demanding enthusiasts, I think no.
Is there a difference between the Uniden r3 and the Uniden r3 extreme long range?
Nope, exactly the same thing
@@VortexRadar thanks
Best budget: anything from Rocky Mountain
Best overall: radenso Theia...according to them
Wish the R8 had the build quality to match its price.
The materials and its assembly are embarrassing at the price point.
Escort needs to fix Gatso malware in the 360c..................... when?
Affordable detector is $500? Ill show my plebeian ass out.
There’s affordable ones in the 250-300 range. Notably the R3. I have it, is amazing, costed me 260 bucks at Best Buy.
Anything below $200 is risky. They just don’t work as well.
Escort max 360 dont work in new camera gen
Ex Tattile of Italy, fully not recognize
Did I miss the review of The Police Detector that magically finds police cars with microwaves? Probably the same people who sell the Rocky Mountain Radar products.
I’ve had one for a while but still haven’t installed or tested it. It does seem to work in some locations, but not always and not everywhere.
for k-band which is the best?
Please make a settings video with the Uniden R7 and 1.50 International Firmware.
It’s on the long list, but near the top of the queue after I finish all the end of year “best of” videos. :)
That and an R4 setup video.
Someone is selling me a valentine one for $100, is it still worth to buy it in 2024??
Way better then not having a detector and a dash cam at all, so may bad drivers out there.
My r8 keeps saying no gps signal
That’s sucks. Mine says GPS connected. No idea wtf that means, but great. lol I guess it knows its own location and adjusts accordingly.

Bravo. Your life will be so much better for it. You must be proud!
Valentine One Gen 2 is the best@@larzblast
I usually speed up videos but damn you're already talking at 1.5x
I’m doing your job for you, lol
radenso is smoke and mirrors. Theai anyone????
Mine works awesome, how do you figure?
I want to buy those Redline 360Cs but can't in good conscience spend that money on an incomplete product.

Is the valentine 1 gen 1 any good
Stay away from that outdated garbage (Valentine). Get a Uniden R3 and up... The only reason Valentine is still in business is because of their fan girls.
