Great modelling and great solutions. Also great work at being an 'ambassador' for TT:120. I've made a return to British modelling since TT:120 has been introduced and it's great to see someone promoting the scale so well. Hopefully this will encourage people to give it a go and ensure that the scale has a popular future.
Thanks, after all the negative comments online about the scale I figured it was about time someone actually tried out seeing what IS possible with the scale rather than complaining about what you can't do with it. Thanks for watching 😃
At 1 minute in, I was mightily impressed to hear you express your wish that your layout be embraced as an example of the high level of railway modelling that can be achieved in this scale. It's encouraging to witness that kind of positive outlook at a time when TT120 is really cementing it's place within the hobby.
It feels like a brag but I actually think Teaton is a really good example of what can be achieved in TT in a reasonable space. I've yet to see anything else on the exhibition circuit that I think fulfils that and really uses the scales full potential. But this isn't from a personal point of view, it is definitely all about showing other people what's possible and inspiring them to have a go themselves. Thanks for watching 😃
Really enjoyed this series, thank you. Was glad to hear that not everything goes smoothly (not in a horrible way) as I also have loads of issues as I am building my own layout, but you just have to get through it. Thanks again. Colin.
I do think it's a really important point to get across. It's all too easy to look at these videos and think everything just works for me when in reality it doesn't. No-one wants to watch 4 hours of me huffing and puffing under a layout trying to figure out why something isn't working but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Thanks or watching 😃
Fantastic layout and congrats on the exhibition. So glad you sorted out the gremlins beforehand! Wow, love the idea of extension boards! I think, if you can - you need some kids hanging at the fence waving at the passing trains and a sheep dog with them (since the sheep are already put away). If it is not too personal, will you show us the space in your dad's office where the layout is built for?
It was definitely a fun (if stressful) experience! Nice idea, I'll have to see if Modelu do suitable figures. I think you might like the final episode in the series 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
So glad you've been enjoying it Sam - I will say the HST and Class 50 are probably the two best TT models Hornby have done so far... just to tempt you further! 😉 See you for the final episode in a few weeks time and thanks for watching 👍
Wonderful to see the layout got so much attention at the exhibition. Really loved watching the progress of the layout and how much detail you can pack in with TT120!
It was really great to be able to show it off at the show and a lot of people said it was their favourite layout which was so nice to hear. I do feel like TT:120 is a really good middle ground between getting the small size of N and the ease of use from 00. Thanks for watching 😃
No worries, the show will be back again next September! I also did a video on all of the layouts at the show if you fancy checking that out too. Thanks for watching 😃
I really like that background that your dad painted, it lifts the layout to the next level. Also the pieces in the front are a really nice idea and looks great
It really does, the right backscene can really make or break a layout in my opinion. I love the front extensions too - in reality I'd have loved to have some space in front of the mainline on the main baseboard anyway but I had to use all the depth available to squeeze everything in. Thanks for watching 😃
Likewise! I had lots of great chats about the scale throughout the weekend so hopefully it might have inspired a few others to check it out for themselves. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy - Indeed. It ticks all the boxes. It gives more scenery, it is not heavy, not expensive, not complicated, it is expendable, it creates a safe drop zone for the trains, and it keep leaners at bay. Just perfect.
That was wonderful to see how everybody seemed to enjoy your dads layout you built for him. Thank you for the serious on the build. Like that scale. GOD BLESS from America 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
I would absolutely love to display an N Gauge Layout at a British Show. Hopefully in the future I can, especially considering I'm all the way across the Atlantic in the US!
A lot of shows do book at least a year in advance so might be worth looking into if there's one you really fancy doing and coincides with a trip over. A smaller show would be your best bet initially as they're always on the lookout for new layouts to feature. Thanks for watching 😃
Wow I am really amazed how compact the layout is when you see it in the thumbnail image. Just highlights how great this scale can be. Now if Hornby can get there act together and launch some GWR locomotives, rolling stock and buildings I will definitely consider.
Definitely, we had a lot of people throughout the weekend who were surprised at how small the layout actually is and how much you can fit into a decent sized space without it feeling cramped. Hornby have said they have some GWR stuff on the way... we're just not sure how soon it's coming but I think it'll be a while yet. PECO have definitely covered the GWR buildings though. Thanks for watching 😃
You continue to be an inspiration to me. We don't have the space to build a layout, but I may try building a small diorama. The more I watch these videos, the more I want to get started. Here's to more in the future. Just a suggestion, but maybe a RWS layout for the 80th anniversary next year?
That's great to hear! I'd say there are definitely ways to build layouts in a small space. Shunting layouts in particular can be quite small and 009 is perfect for being able to go round incredibly tight circuits. Just some food for thought. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you! It's been a great experience trying out this new scale and I'm looking forward to you all getting to see the final episode in a few weeks time! Thanks for watching 😃
It was great to see you at Spa Valley Railway and to see the finished layout which is an absolute triumph. A great example of what can be achieved in this new and exciting scale.
Likewise it was great to meet you too Nigel, especially after all the support you've shown the channel! Thanks so much for coming along and I hope you had a great day. Thanks for watching 🤩
those extensions at the front look really good and make a massive different visually, even if they can't always be attached they can clip on for photos or whatever and be removed so spot on. the exhibition looks a blast too :)
Absolutely, I'm really pleased with how well they turned out given I'm churned them out so quickly. I may well use them for running sessions in the future. Thanks for watching 😃
I may be (very) biased but I think it's a great show. There's usually something for everyone and we try to improve on the previous year every time. Thanks for watching 🤩
It's always good fun showing a layout at an exhibition - although I will admit it's nice to give you all a closer look at things here in video form. Thanks for watching 😃
Glad to be of assistance! Having only just finished this layout I'll be taking a bit of a break from anymore big projects for a while... but I've got some ideas for things to do on my 00 gauge layout. Thanks for watching 😃
Glad the exhibition went well and I'm glad teaton worked for the exhibition, I've been there when we have a layout at an exhibition, and things stop working for no reason and it is stressful but worth it in the end 😀
Thanks Adam! Yeah I'm just glad it happened before the show as there's just no way I would have been equipped to deal with a massive failure like that during an exhibition 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Great to see this layout been exhibited at the spa valley railway. Too far for me being up in Sunderland. Hope you take it out to more shows. Been great watching this build from start to finish and hope it brings more people into TT120 👍
The layout did get a few invites to other exhibitions while at the show although none are confirmed yet. The next episode will give you a bit more of an idea about the layouts immediate future. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks! I think the thing is I've never really tried to "sell" the scale but I have enjoyed building this layout and seeing what's already possible with TT:120. If that enthusiasm rubs off on others that's a good thing in my book. Thanks for watching 😃
Great finale video of a fantastic set! It still seems odd seeing somewhere I know so well (Spa Valley Railway, Tunbridge Wells West Station) on TH-cam! I have family who live a 20 min walk from here and I keep meaning to check out when the exhibitions are on to come and see your, and other, models for real.
This isn't the final episode, there's still one more to go! Generally the exhibition takes place every September at Spa - next year's show is currently scheduled for 20th-21st September 2025. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I meant to write nervewrecking. It's also, in adition to the scale, an interesting and impressive side of your layout that you produced so much yourself on the lazer and 3d printer. Always fun to watch! Best from Norway
With somewhat limited ready made scenic items what you've put together is really fantastic. Personally think TT has a good future and I'm certain other manufacturers of rolling stock will be entering the scale soon.
What's interesting is that a lot of modellers prefer building kits or scratch building over using ready made items anyway so that shouldn't be too much of a barrier. I relied fairly heavily on the laser cutter for this build (because that's what I have experience with) but there's no reason why you couldn't make buildings out of card or plasticard in the more traditional ways. Equally, scenic materials like plaster bandage, ballast and grass aren't scale specific so there's plenty available there too. As for other manufacturers joining the scale, we've already seen some state their intentions for products they'd like to make. Thanks for watching 😃
Love the positivity on the channel! I'm hoping to start my own build soon after moving home. I'm intrigued by the TT scale but im pretty sure ill end up in the OO camp as some of the stuff thats being produced now looks amazing. Keep up the great content, im sure ill be referencing back to some of your tutorials when i hopefully make a start.
Thanks! Yeah 00 Gauge definitely has a lot to offer especially when it comes to more niche areas of interest within the hobby. Glad you've been enjoying the videos and best of luck with your own build. Thanks for watching 😃
Thankfully the layout behaved at the exhibition - it was the week before where everything went wrong 😅 There's links to the lights listed in the description. Thanks for watching 👍
Personally I'm not a fan of perspex sheets in front of a layout. As someone who films/photographs layouts the reflections are annoying and even when fully transparent I still feel it puts up a barrier between the layout and the viewer. Circumstances differ on each layout of course but in my case the front extensions did their job perfectly. Thanks for watching 😃
A really, really fantastic series!! The best model railway content creator 100%! Out of curiosity, how heavy was it to lift the whole board with your father?
Thank you, that's really kind of you to say! Not heavy at all.. I wouldn't say it's light but easily manageable with two of us. It's more awkward because of the size rather than the weight. Thanks for watching 😃
Good to know that the exhibition went well. Very enjoyable series, although I'm still very much "stuck" on 00. Principles are the same though, so lots to take away..
Thanks! Yeah I think a lot of people will stick with 00 - myself included. But you're absolutely right, all the techniques carry over regardless of the scale you're working in. Thanks for watching 😃
It was very much a last minute addition (some eagle eyed viewers may have spotted the wiring in a previous episode) but it was very intermittent in practice. Was good fun while it lasted though! Thanks for watching 😃
This is a really well-crafted and inspiring exhibition layout. I'm looking forward to going backwards through the series to learn how you constructed it. Thanks for sharing!.
Thank you! It was never really intended as an exhibition layout (otherwise we'd have made it more portable) but it was great to show it off at least once. Hope you enjoy going back through the series and thanks for watching 😃
As I've said in response to other comments throughout the series, my Dad wanted to make the trees so I've left that for him to do. Thanks for watching 👍

It might be that I've recently gotten into VR, but the macro shots would look great in 3D or spatial video. It's a niche within a niche, but that's no bad thing, the foreground-background depth effect would be too compelling.
There aren’t really any macro shots in these videos, just a decent zoom and occasional punch-ins in the edit. But no actual macro lenses or filters have been used. Thanks for watching 😃
