Thanks! Lot's more exciting stuff to come including the expansion of the scene created today and some more urban style scenics at the opposite end of the layout... It's gonna be a challenge to get it all done in time for the exhibition! Thanks for watching 😃
Absolutely, regardless of the scale there are still plenty of tips and tricks to pick up. Hope you had a great day at Bluebell... it was great to meet so many people at the show! Thanks for watching 😃
It's definitely a big milestone to have them showing their support for the channel and as always I'd much rather promote model railway related businesses rather than take any old sponsor money! Thanks for watching 😃
It does look good doesn't it! This is always the stage where things start to progress quite quickly and the layout starts looking considerably different... the Channel Members have had a taste of the progress already 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
Afternoon, I have just used your double sided tape method of ballasting, what a game changer especially on the points, I have found that leaving the ballast overnight to cure is best. I'm going to try doing a patch of grass next to see how it comes out
Great to hear it's working for you. I'm curious about the curing though... what exactly is there to cure? Surely the ballast either sticks to the tape or it doesn't... at least that has been my experience. Best of luck with the grass and thanks for watching 😃
I'm really interested to see this layout progress, for me looking at the track plan with that nice big terminus station, steep inclines, multiple levels of track in a close proximity, the goods yard it all strikes me as quite an city or built up town scape. Something akin to everard junction build but maybe more on the out skirts. So I'm definitely curious to see how you incorporate the rural country to a very busy layout
The plan is to have the left hand side of the layout be more urban with the right hand side featured today being more open countryside. The dividing line so to speak will be the cut through of the reverse loop be we have some plans to blend to two different scenes together. Thanks for watching 😃
Yeah, while I could have just used static grass again part of what makes this fun is trying out new things to suit each scale and the setting of each layout. Thanks for watching 😃
Good work there on the scenics. It will be interesting what gets done at the terminus part of the layout. Guessing a town/large village scene will be placed up there
The rough plan is to have the right hand side of the layout be more countryside and the left side be more town and industrial so we'll get a nice mix of scenes on the layout. Thanks for watching 😃
I think this technique is the best way. I have only been able to do the technique without static grass. Eventually I will get/make an applicator and do this where you mix both methods! Fantastic work as is usual!
It does show that static grass isn't the only way to go about adding scenics to a layout. Flock and scatter can work just as well and in some cases is even more desirable in smaller scales where static grass can look oversized. Thanks for watching 😃
The route runs through a beautiful landscape. Just as a note, it is actually the same stuff as in hospitals. For example, the plaster bandage from the model making company Faller, if you open the brown packaging, you will find the bandage still packed in the hygienic protective packaging from the original Medic company 😅. But they still charge 10 times more for the outer packaging than the original medic product cost🤑. I personally only use the plaster bandage from the pharmacy, it is much cheaper.
Yes I'm pretty sure the stuff I use currently is the same even though it's branded as a craft material for kids... luckily it doesn't cost any extra and it's always better to buy in bulk as you always need more than you think in my experience! Thanks for watching 😃
Glad you enjoyed it, the rocks do look good. I've done them this way for a while now and the results are always very satisfying. Just need to embed them into the landscape a little more now. Thanks for watching 😃
Interesting scenery techniques. Truth be told I almost exclusively model in O scale but I've been enjoying this series to learn new ways of laying track, ballast, and landscaping. I'm already planning on trying your double-sided tape trick on my layout and I might just try that grass too.
Yeah regardless of scale there's always a lot of tip and tricks we can pickup. I see no reason why the double sided tape wouldn't work for O gauge... with static grass you may want to use 2-6mm fibres to account for the scale. Thanks for watching 😃
Amazing, thank you so much! Don't forget you can watch the next episode in the series right away: th-cam.com/video/id5HrFzCcMw/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching 🤩
This isn't a particularly good idea as you need the rocks to be white for the painting technique I demonstrated to work. Otherwise you'll get a flat consistent colouring that looks really unnatural. I've never experienced the rocks chipping on any of the layouts I've built (which are all portable) so I don't know why people seem to think it's a common occurrence. Thanks for watching 😃
Looking great. Nice to see you trying different techniques. I was wondering how you would scale down your static grass technique. Looks good, however I’m not sure (from how it looked on camera) that the 1mm added much to the effect! Thank you for making the stone walls available in TT… I’ve added them to my shopping list 😊
The 1mm acts more as a base to create a more consistent coverage and gives the 2mm fibres a bit of extra height. It's a subtle effect but without it the grass can look a bit patchy. Thanks for watching 😃
Will you be doing any more of the TT dry stone wall for sale? It looks great. It's showing as out of stock, and I can't see a way to pre-order or similar. I'd want quite a bit, probably 10m-15m.

I am enjoying this series ass I am looking at getting back in to the hobby now I am getting closer to retirement, can you do a DCC guide if possible. The options are confusing and would like to see a whole layouts dcc explained eg tablet/phone control and or pc
Essentially with DCC you just want all your track to be live all the time - that's essentially it. What Command Station you then plug into your track is up to you. Personally I use the Roco Z21 system which uses phone/tablet control but there are a lot of other systems that use a more traditional handheld remote style device. I don't really have much experience with those myself but never say never - I could look into it for a future video. Thanks for watching 👍
Can I ask why the ‘walling’ was added on the curve? Is it a requirement for scale model sets? It doesn’t seem to match a natural landscape. Beautiful work and enjoyed the video.
It's not a requirement, we just wanted to show that the walling didn't have to be used in only straight lines. But most railways have a boundary line of some sort alongside the running line. Bear in mind as well that this area isn't finished yet, there's still some work to do. Thanks for watching 😃
T Gauge as in 1:450? No, they would be too small to make consistently. Currently the only plans are to release them in TT and N alongside the existing 00 range. Thanks for watching 👍
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Thanks for the response, and so quickly. I guess I'll just have to do it myself. I do have some 1/24th rough stone walls, so I guess I'll 3D scan them, and then rescale to 1/450. Then decide on PLA or resin, since I do have both 3D printers. Thanks again. By the way, I always use Isopon, the filler, for my landscaping. In T the Mod Roc dimples are MASSIVE. And Isopon can be sculpted with the clay modelling tools.
No your eyesight is fine - I went to the website to get the link and couldn't find it 🤦🏻♂️ I've asked them to send it to me but since it's a weekend I'm not expecting a reply until Monday at the earliest. Sorry! Will update as soon as I can. Thanks for watching 😃
How do you provide power to your bus? Can you use the power control unit provided in the Easterner set? Do you just attach the bus wires to the prongs?
Yep, basically whatever your using to control the layout connects to your bus wire to feed power to the track. As I'm using DCC all my track is live all the time but that may not be as desirable with the Hornby analog controller, depending on your setup. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks. I have the dcc power unit with the blue tooth. This works perfectly. My intention is to add a power bus connected to the power unit. I also use a NCE controller on my OO layout. If I chose to use this and attach it to tje bus would I be able to control locos using the NCE controller if I set the loco to DCC rather than Bluetooth? Would I need to give it a new number?.
Ahh sorry I didn't realise you had the Bluetooth version of The Easterner. Yes that'll work fine. When you use the NCE controller instead you'll need to use the app to set individual addresses for each loco before switching them over to DCC. Or you can do it afterwards in the normal way you'd set a decoder address on the NCE controller but the app is probably easier and quicker 👍
Thanks, that’s very useful. It might be worth an episode on the practicalities of wiring using tt120 with info on bluetooth and a dcc controller for bus, points and signals .
Wiring for the HM7000 system isn't really any different than wiring for standard DCC in that you generally want everything to be live. I have previously done a "Wiring For Beginners" type video but that mostly focussed on analog operation as that tends to be more complicated. The earlier episodes of this series did show how the layout was wired up though.
That seems like an odd opinion to have, especially since the previous episode focused almost entirely on building a shunting yard... and a few episodes before that I built a terminus station. Thanks for watching 👍
Obviously we have nothing against New Zealand (or any other country) but international shipping isn't something I'm able to offer at this point as mostly a one man band operation. Thanks for your understanding 👍
Unfortunately not. We have looked into it but at this time it's just not possible for us to ship internationally. Sorry about that. Thanks for watching 👍
Dry stone walling in N?? Thank you!! The rigid products are just awful and whilst a smaller scale means less detail - being able to actually do decent curved walls is all I wanted as a modeller. Thank you!
I'm glad you're excited for it! We've had a lot of requests to do it in N Gauge too so we listened and have been quietly working on it in the background. Hopefully it's not too far away from release now. Thanks for watching 😃
It's Closed-Cell Polyethylene Foam, though if you're buying stuff specifically I'd recommend polystyrene blocks over this. That'll be much easier to work with. I only used this because I already had it. Thanks for watching 😃
This layout has been coming together very nicely so far, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Thanks! Lot's more exciting stuff to come including the expansion of the scene created today and some more urban style scenics at the opposite end of the layout... It's gonna be a challenge to get it all done in time for the exhibition! Thanks for watching 😃
