Reviewing the 1Zpresso ZP6 Pour Over Grinder | Coffee with April

  • This week, we’re reviewing a new release from Taiwanese producer 1Zpresso. The ZP6 is pitched as a grinder optimised for pour over brewing due to it’s updated 48mm stainless steel burr set.
    The adjustment mechanism has been updated, enabling the user more precision when selecting their grind setting. As usual with 1Zpresso grinders, we found the build quality to be very high with the materials feeling sturdy and solid. The grinder is very easy to adjust, disassemble or clean. The speed of grinding is comparatively very high, making this a very efficient choice of hand-grinder.
    In this video we brew a sample recipe to test the capabilities of the grinder, in anticipation of creating and releasing our own hand grinder later this year.

    Its interesting how i see no one commenting yet how great the ZP6 particle distribution shines when doing full immersion (Hario switch)
    It's funny how i see lots of people commenting on how fast the draw down times are with this grinder, but, dude, seriously nobody taking a Hario Switch or a clever dripper to try steeping the thing for some minutes? In case you have a zp6 on hand and you haven't tried full immersion or hybrid pour overs yet (immersion + percolation) , I wholeheartedly suggest you to give it a shot and thank me later.

    I really prefer the external adjustment on some of the 1zpressos compared to the internal adjustments many others use. It just makes minor grind size adjustment quicker and easier. Hope it's something you are considering in your own hand grinder. Keep it up 👍

      Maybe it is the size and structure of brewers you use, for example, the small version of v60 or Kalita , the minimal dose is usually at least 15g of coffee. But Kono, Orea, April can perform well with around 12g !

    I didn't know that the grind setting of 4 had that relative threshold of grind size. I'm always glad to see some nice, objective measurements! I also didn't know that the April recipe was changed from 30/70 to 50/50 center/circle pours.
    6:00 I hate that so many fines get trapped around the outside of the burr! I have to blow them away after every grind.

    A vote here for the 1ZPresso K-Plus with the magnetic catch cup. Also comes with a “magic tumbler” catch cup for espresso dosing. I find it has a wider range…I grind espresso around 3, pour over/filter around 7.5 but I’m going to try it on 4 with my April brewer based on this. Thanks, as always, for the overview.

    • @zenadventurer69
      @zenadventurer69 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did the 12g April recipe on my April brewer (16.6666 ratio/the green, plastic one). Quite nice. Four on the K-Plus at 12 grams probably translates to a courser grind at 60 grams for my Bonavita batch brewer. I’ll try that tomorrow….that’s about where I’ve been dosing but a much finer grind (based on my Kruve Brewler and what I can get out of my DF64 with SSP unimodal burrs). I’m open to suggestions re: grind settings.

    with ZP6, you get really fast draw time, so you need kind of multiple pours to compensate for that but even with short brew time, you have pretty high extraction. This grinder produces tighter distribution and low fines, I assume that's why you couldn't go coarser and it wouldn't fit into classic April recipes
    Also, was this properly aligned to zero?

    • @mikni4069
      @mikni4069 ปีที่แล้ว

      With 700 plus micron they are already pretty coarse you probably wouldn’t go much coarser with light roast, not even multi pours

    • @coffeewithapril
      @coffeewithapril  ปีที่แล้ว +3
