This is probably one of my most favourite car designs. In the early 2010s, I think Audi perfected their design language, but now a days, im they don’t look as simple and clean as this.
Yes! I completely agree. I think like BMW perfecting their design language in the mid 90s with the e46,39 etc. Audi was perfection with this era for sure.
This was and still is my dream car, ever since I saw it as a kid in 2008 I instantly fell in love with the Audi A,S,RS5 and with the Audi brand. ❤ I have a 2015 A1 at the moment but one day… one day I will buy one of those beautys.
I bought my B8 S5 V8 6 months ago. 140k miles on it and still solid. First owner maintained it really well, I did some preventive maintenance once I got it. It’s my daily and enjoy it every day. Plenty of information on internet. I always say the same thing, this older Audis are for owners who wrench and enjoy doing it or either you have money left for mechanics. They take long time once diving into some items, typical oil leaks, suspension components, etc. The looks and the V8 will appreciate even more over time.
I have a 2013 RS5, I really appreciate the design history lesson. Your knowledge and attention to design detail made this review super unique. Awesome video dude. Thank you.
I remember the first time I saw an Audi RS5, it was the first gen facelifted model with silver trim around the windows and the mirror caps and it was in motion to boot.
The 2016 RS5 is my attainable dream car. Sounds amazing, looks incredible, handles stupidly well, is very comfortable, decently reliable/maintainable, the list goes on.
I've been driving a 2014 A5 for a few years now, and it still makes me happy walking up to it in any parking lot. Visually, that car is close to perfect. IMO, there are very few cars that look as timelessly good as the A/S/RS5 series and I'm 85% certain my next car will be a 4.2L RS5.
Satoshi Wada was probably one of the best designers Audi has had. That great era of design was because of his amazing talent. He did the A5, A6, A7, and first generation Q7. I fell in love with the B8.5 RS5 when it first came out and bought one 6 years ago. Beautiful design and a wonderful V8. Definitely a special car that will be a collector car one day.
Hi there, poor S5 V8 owner here :)) ... very nice review, although I don't have the RS5 I must agree on points made in here 1) downshifts are intoxicating - nothing better then rapidly arrive on red lights and people just looking like what is it what is it xD 2) pre-facelift design any time, I like both but the first one is more sharp cut, although the new DRL are really beautiful - hard decision there - rear LED lines ++1 3) front grill - black for sure, if RS5 isn't meant something it would be looking posh, that is what the chrome grill is advertising - swap to black dechromed grill is a maaassive difference, for the better 4) did I mentioned the downshifts? or addictive soundtrack of the V8? 5) 20" wheels suits this the best, for me the Le Mans wheels - but I know we all have different tastes 6) for me not a daily driver, it is a weekend experience, polish it and take it for a run, park it up and sit somewhere where you can appreciate it for a bit - absolutely beautiful car 7) downshifts, definitely don't forget the downshifts
I bought a 2015 A5 Coupe 6MT last month and even though it's "only" an A5 I am in love with this car. I cant stop looking back at it after I park and I never want to stop driving it
I’ve always said that this RS5 /S5 /A5 design was IMO even better looking than some Aston Martins , at a fraction of the price. @TheSketchMonkey please make more of these car design review vids… great stuff
I certainly remember when I first saw this on the street. It was those LEDs that caught my attention simply because no one else had previously done this. And how could I forget it featuring in Hitman? It was the perfect car for that role. And I actually also prefer the pre-facelift.
This has always been one of my favorite cars period, always break my neck when I see one. Certain cars just age very gracefully. Similar to the 3rd gen Acura TL and many others.
Even though modern days Audis are way overstyled, they managed to retain the beautiful proportions of the Da Silva Era. The original R5 is to me, unmatched even today: masculine and sexy like no other, the perfect coupe.
Have it and agree. Have tried to sale it, but can not because there is no other car that can replace it. Almost 10 years now and still every morning looking at it like it's our first date 😅
I have had my 2011 Audi S5 for over 8 years. I plan to get a 2015 RS5 real soon . I do wish the RS5 had the same headlights as my 2011 S5. There are only 2 things I wish the S5 and RS5 had…a fully retractable sunroof and automatic folding side view mirrors.
Great video, with so much design commentary from someone who knows! This is a BEAUTIFUL looking vehicle and timeless. Am a B9 RS5 owner BUT - this 2013 body is the best. I hate my car's engine lid as the opening is so much larger than the B8 model, so the side view accentuates the fact that this car is front heavy 😡. The only good thing is my car is a 2019 with the great front splitter and rear diffuser which were nixed in the next update - cost savings??? 🤬
That’s the reason why I didn’t buy the present Audi A5 after the stylish differences made to the original De Silva’s design which was really beautiful and …..original.
RS3 sedan is still my favourite from 2014 - then there's facelifts which made it more aggressive. R8 and R8 gen 2 will be the best looking flagship Audi design. However, RS6 and RS7 deserves highly commended.
You can‘t touch a work of art. Audi A5 is Walter de Silva‘s masterpiece. You can eventually touch it inside but outside A5 coupe must remain generally unchanged!
It doesn't even look good now to so many people including me. People of the future will look at todays cars the same way we look at 70s-80s econoboxes. They're simply the ugliest. But designs like the RS5, E36, E46, RX7, RX8 and the Supra are simply timeless and will never go out of fashion
I much prefer the facelift B8.5 over the earlier B8, but to each their own! Its a timeless design that hasnt aged a day, and to my eyes looks far nicer than the equivalent C63 or M3.
One of the things about driving this car that I see most people making mistake, is that you should drive it in AUTO Dynamic first and let it show you how it wants to shift on its own. You'll quickly realize that this thing wants to rev to 8200 rpm every single gear. It can really kick your head back when you hit it right, it just absolutely beams. I noticed in this video you were climbing RPM from a gear that was 1 gear too high ;)
Yes. Yes. And YES!! I'm glad someone said it. The b8.5 RS5 is THE pinnacle of european design. And ridiculous that it comes in a car that's less than 40k used. This will be my next car. Shame what kind of monstrosity they created with the latest rs5's....the design just refuses to grow on me. Also agree that the OEM 20" 5 star concave blades are the best for this car. One of the greatest factory rim designs ever as well. Just throw on some spacers and the car has the perfect stance.
I would love to see you do a review on the same model year RS4. I personally think its a better looking car than the RS5, even though the RS5 is beautiful!!!!
In my mind the A5 of the year 2013 is the most beautiful car ever. It has everything a driver wants; even the diesel has everything; 6 cylinders, 245 HP, all roads, 250 speed, 100 km.h in5,6 sec. and a very beautiful style. What do you want more?
Mine dropped a valve seat and the engine had to be replaced. Rare, it seems, but happened. Upkeep is expensive, complex car so lots to break, not what I would call reliable, but worth it to me.
I have a 2011 S5 and I think they have the best headlights. I wish they would’ve stayed with that style. I don’t like the new style headlights. They look like crows feet.
The A5 coupe 2012 was designed by a famous designer Walter da Silva and is original true masterpiece. The following models A5 are something different. You can’t take a masterpiece and modify it. 😮😢You can’t modify the Leonardo’s Mona Lisa!
i think the current RS5 looks better but its not the better car from a petrol heads perspective. it's probably as an overall package the better car, yes, but definitely not as far as fun factor and emotions go.
This and the E92 are still my two most favorite German coupes ever.
Tha e92 fo me😍
w opinion
Facts!! They were in their bag with these 2 designs. Timeless.
Agreed 👍
This is probably one of my most favourite car designs. In the early 2010s, I think Audi perfected their design language, but now a days, im they don’t look as simple and clean as this.
They found their identity with the LED DRL and grille. Audi before that looks like crap.
Yes! I completely agree. I think like BMW perfecting their design language in the mid 90s with the e46,39 etc. Audi was perfection with this era for sure.
everytime i see my rs5 i smile like on the first day i bought it.timless design and that roar of the v8 is just amazing
This car looks beautiful
This was and still is my dream car, ever since I saw it as a kid in 2008 I instantly fell in love with the Audi A,S,RS5 and with the Audi brand. ❤
I have a 2015 A1 at the moment but one day… one day I will buy one of those beautys.
The Audi S5 and RS5 is the most beautiful car I have ever seen. Love the design it is such a classic look!
I bought my B8 S5 V8 6 months ago. 140k miles on it and still solid. First owner maintained it really well, I did some preventive maintenance once I got it. It’s my daily and enjoy it every day. Normally I don't give a like to videos, I only just watch them. But I have to leave a like for this one, absolutely amazing
Always been a fan of that design. Reminds me a little bit of old school muscle cars from the late 60s/early 70s
I have a 2013 RS5, I really appreciate the design history lesson. Your knowledge and attention to design detail made this review super unique. Awesome video dude. Thank you.
I’m about to get a 2014, step up from my S4 😂 I’m excited

This is a design masterpiece and can be used as a visual example for 'less is more'.

2015 Daytona Grey RS5 here. Absolutely glorious sound, and a true pleasure to drive. I get compliments on it all the time. Timeless design.
I bought a 2015 A5 Coupe 6MT last month and even though it's "only" an A5 I am in love with this car. I cant stop looking back at it after I park and I never want to stop driving it

"I feel like I'm doing my surroundings a service" such a great line.
Thank you for this. It’s actually one of my favourite designs
I had a 2014 in panther black with black optic package. One of the best looking cars of all time.
This has always been one of my favorite cars period, always break my neck when I see one. Certain cars just age very gracefully. Similar to the 3rd gen Acura TL and many others.
That's true, this car is as beautiful today like in 2013. And still I want it so bad.
Even though modern days Audis are way overstyled, they managed to retain the beautiful proportions of the Da Silva Era. The original R5 is to me, unmatched even today: masculine and sexy like no other, the perfect coupe.
Literally one of the best cars ever. Check out how we modified ours! It’s super reliable! Fast enough and extraordinarily rare!
Buy it! I have one in this color and they are rare and are only going to go up in value. So worth it.
Which wheels are on this model? Perfect stance
Have it and agree. Have tried to sale it, but can not because there is no other car that can replace it. Almost 10 years now and still every morning looking at it like it's our first date 😅
Thanks for all the info. Helped me make my choice to buy this car 🙌🏽
I have the B8,5 S5 love it! reliable, interior is quality and the exterior is a timeless design some people asked me if the car is new😅
I love my 2014 RS5 and I also have a 2021 RS6 Avant. Both are awesome!
I used to do valet parking and when I started I discovered two things:
1) BMW is overrated
2) Audi is incredible
Im so glad i own that car. thank you for this video my man loove it great detalis!
Well Thanks!
I bought it, but it has been amazing for the last 4 days.
Thanks Monkey!
AND Thanks Gabe at Urban Motors!

What wheels are on that RS5?
The Yugo in the background caught me off guard, not gonna lie
Loving those reviews 👌🏼
My favorite car ever!
Who came here after the throttle house review?
Bought my B8.5 after watching their review 3 yrs ago
I have a 2011.great vid. Buy it.
That’s the reason why I didn’t buy the present Audi A5 after the stylish differences made to the original De Silva’s design which was really beautiful and …..original.
Im lucky enough to own a 2015 Nardo Grey Rs5. So good !!
RS3 sedan is still my favourite from 2014 - then there's facelifts which made it more aggressive. R8 and R8 gen 2 will be the best looking flagship Audi design. However, RS6 and RS7 deserves highly commended.
Speaking of rims, I like those aftermarket wheels much better. Would you know what rim & size of those wheels?
RS5 2012 and the R8 2007 are immaculate in their design.
You can‘t touch a work of art. Audi A5 is Walter de Silva‘s masterpiece. You can eventually touch it inside but outside A5 coupe must remain generally unchanged!
Smooth design will age beautifully. Having air inlets and shit all over the place looks good for a while, but dates quickly
It doesn't even look good now to so many people including me. People of the future will look at todays cars the same way we look at 70s-80s econoboxes. They're simply the ugliest. But designs like the RS5, E36, E46, RX7, RX8 and the Supra are simply timeless and will never go out of fashion
Agree! I'd take the pre-facelift. Don't like the 'new' headlights. Very nice colour on this one!
I much prefer the facelift B8.5 over the earlier B8, but to each their own! Its a timeless design that hasnt aged a day, and to my eyes looks far nicer than the equivalent C63 or M3.
I own a A5 2011 Quattro MY FAVOURITE 😍😍

This example certainly isn't < $40k lol. They've been very tough to negotiate with.
I really like the Audi A7
It's a beauty. Latest rs5 is not bad either but it's less muscular.
Best of actuals for sure...GRANDE WALTER.
The pre face left is my favorite to , the headlights look better to 8ts got more of a muscle car look
I didn't watch the video but i can answer. Yes it is loved it since the first time i saw it. German Engine Italian Design. A dream
you should do a review on one of there MK4 Supra's
Can you make a review for an M4 F82?
yes! stunnig design!
Short answer: YES! :D
I would love to see you do a review on the same model year RS4. I personally think its a better looking car than the RS5, even though the RS5 is beautiful!!!!
The one previous to that one is more beautiful.
I have a 2015 in red love it to death but honestly if i see a deal on a blue one i am gonna take the plunge
Are you from The Netherlands or a Scandinavian country? Your accent sounds like it.
As someone with a facelift RS5, I prefer it but I'm probably biased lol.
In my mind the A5 of the year 2013 is the most beautiful car ever. It has everything a driver wants; even the diesel has everything; 6 cylinders, 245 HP, all roads, 250 speed, 100 km.h in5,6 sec. and a very beautiful style. What do you want more?
It's easily one of the best looking cars of all time imo
The fact that everyone who talk about small sedan v8 forgot that there was a Lexus Isf as well really make me sad
B7, to me, is the best looking 👍
Yes it is a great design - but I think some of Walter da Silva's Alfa Romeos were even better looking and much more distinctive.
I love the surfacing of the 156 and 166
ONe of the best looking coupes ever,, its Phat
Personally, I think the 2013 A5/S5 is the best looking Audi ever. Similar to the RS5, but with subtle differences.
I dream having this car one day
How reliable is it?…
Mine dropped a valve seat and the engine had to be replaced. Rare, it seems, but happened. Upkeep is expensive, complex car so lots to break, not what I would call reliable, but worth it to me.
Yes
I personally believe the R8 LMX and A8L D4 are the best looking Audi's ever
Both beautiful vehicles, however I’d have to go with the shorter A8 for the proportions
Yupp!
Audi A7 best looking Audi ever love those fastback sedan over the basic 3 box shaped.
Yes, it is!
Damn that car looks sexy I always wanted one especially in that blue color 💯🔹
R8- RS5- S5 (B8) are the best looking Audi's ever made. V8 only.
My 2013 RS5 has the black grill’
Yes
I liked the 1982 S1 Quattro
I have a 2011 S5 and I think they have the best headlights. I wish they would’ve stayed with that style. I don’t like the new style headlights. They look like crows feet.
getting the paddle shift extender is something that looks tacky and bad. The design on it is understated and fine for an Audi.
Lol no. That goes to the B4 Competition imho. Or the very least the R8.
The A5 coupe 2012 was designed by a famous designer Walter da Silva and is original true masterpiece. The following models A5 are something different. You can’t take a masterpiece and modify it. 😮😢You can’t modify the Leonardo’s Mona Lisa!

it's probably as an overall package the better car, yes, but definitely not as far as fun factor and emotions go.
Each to their own. For me, R8 all the way.
Yes it is
A5>a5 rest
The headlight much better than the rest.
Totally right about the wheels, stick to originals.
They just don't try anymore, hire yes-man designers who push the envelope a little in the wrong direction every year
It’s the best looking Audi ever.
This was my dream car, until it became my car 😉
