I came across a Reddit post where a player stated that I give 90% of players bad advice because the average player would not be able to replicate my playstyle successfully.
Even though a player will not be able to win the vast majority of his games like me, he will still be able to win more than he loses by practicing what I teach, which will get you to RANK UP.

Agree. I think that was cool of you to call out the misinformation in this way. You could've been like "I'm rank 1 sit", but you took the challenge as a teaching opportunity for your community. I truly wish people didn't have such a sensitivity to your directness.
I've been playing since season 3 of OW1. I've never hit plat. I'm shit. But after your SVB podcast I was like "shit, he's right. I'm the ONLY reason I'm at my rank." I watched your videos and just hit DIAMOND 5!!!!! Your breakdown of the fights, positioning, and kit usage are just SO accurate. So really just wanted to say thanks. I'm looking forward to having a bit more time because I'd love to hire you for some coaching. Anyways, thanks man. You're actually making better players.

What I noticed when I started implementing these changes: at first, you will do WORSE before getting better. This is because you are hard focusing on these concepts, splitting your attention. Once they get more natural, then you will see big improvements and ranks. Don’t let the initial drop scare you away from implementing Awkward’s advice.
I play on PS5 and feel my aim holds me back. Even so, I die significantly less than ever before, do more damage, and find myself in much better positioning. And that is on both Ana and Zen, my two mains.
Nice to see a fellow console player on the grind! It's just so hard to play these characters especially considering how dogshit the aiming is in OW compared to other fps.
Thank you for this. I recently have been trying to improve but it seems like I am going on a losing streak regardless of trying to follow advice. Plus my brain has been very impulsive lately and when it does this I do very stupid things in game lol.
This is because you are actually challenging yourself. Rather than doing nothing and losing, you try to improve and apply new concepts. At the beginning you feel worse, because you do something new. But once this new becomes norm, you ending up being much better player

Yea, I was bronze 1 and have climbed to plat 4 since I started focusing more on damage and using my nades as antis instead of to heal my team.
Also positioning is makes such a big difference. I realized how many times I might start in cover, then slowly work my way out into just wide open / stupid positions as the fight goes on.
Man improved so much over a few weeks. This guy was basically a bot at the beginning of the video and I was actually impressed with some of his plays at the end. Damage Damage Damage took me from Plat (season 36) to Diamond (Season 1), to just hitting GM a couple days ago on Zen. Keep spreading the good word!

@@ojeffma5098 now I can't play any competitive role with my friend besides DMG. Which I don't understand why, my DMG rank is Diamond 5, support Diamond 3 and tank is Plat 1. His skill is not up to par when it comes to damage.
Being willing to admit when you're wrong is not only one of the most underrated attributes in this or any game, but in life in general. Always be humble and willing to admit being wrong, that is how you grow and adapt
It was definitely cool seeing this guy be so open to Awkward coaching him and rolling with the criticism rather than turning defensive. I'm sure a lot of people would look at the title and think "This is gonna be funny" but it was really cool seeing how he improved once he re-trained himself with Awkward's advice. It's a shame more people aren't like that because I still love this game, but the community is what drove me away for a long time before OW2 released. Luckily I can just laugh it off if someone starts getting toxic in my games now since I did some "growing up" during the period I dropped the game.

Honestly my best takeaway from awkward is having the right attitude. I was playing a great game as zen with a ton of damage for my team, but my tank was smack talking me for “lack of healing”. Normally I’d get tilted by that, but I kept to my play style and by the end the rest of the team was praising me. Win or lose, this attitude change has simply allowed me to enjoy the game again.
Turn off Match/Team chat, it's the most useless feature thats on by default. If people want to flame me then they have to get on mic to do it, and most people who complain with typing are too pussy to get on mic and talk shit. Then you just mute them. Why would you care about the opinions of people in low ranks with you? They are in low rank and will probably be staying in low rank for their whole lives. Follow the advice of Awkward, someone who knows what they're doing.
I used to get angry with everything that went wrong, after watching him for a bit I saw that I was being a jerk. I stopped getting angry and my games actually became better, because I was focussing on the game more
Basically, every game I play on Moira. I like to hit flanks with Moira and then fade back to my team and heal. I get shit talked for being a "dps moira" but I know it works so I tune that shit out. By the end of the game, some of my teammates will defend me, but there's always one who is belligerent. I like what Awkward said, "bad players will try to pull you down because you are doing better than them". I listen to awkward, not my teammates.

Awkward is hands-down the best OW2 educator out there. I went from hard stuck bronze 5 to Gold 1 on Soldier after I started applying your mindset. I’ve been bronze on DPS since OW1 but I have improved a lot since I started watching Awkward’s content. Still in bronze but went from like 15% win rate (lmfaoooo) to about 40% in a couple weeks and I think I could continue to improve enough to climb out of bronze. Still not good obviously but noticeably better than I was before
I love seeing Awkward's community being so positive. I'm terrified to play as support in comp right now, but if I can practice enough and put his advice to work I'd love to see my own improvement. I love playing Ana in quick play but if I can build confidence I'd love to see if I could land a decent support rank.

Your Ana video single-handedly improved my Ana gameplay beyond anything else I had tried! I mostly just play QuickPlay after work, but even then I can tell how much of a difference it has made. She's also way more fun now!
Awkward gives the best advice because he keeps it simple and focuses on the fundamentals. Not to throw shade but other unranked to gm TH-camrs, talk so much and overcomplicate things with word salads explaining super nuanced and detailed breakdowns of each fight, it is quickly overwhelming for new or low rank players. Awkward gets rid of that mental clutter and just keeps you focused on what matters most. You can always work on micro gameplay when you get higher rank.

you honestly helped me with your unranked to GM video. i felt really unsure of myself when i was playing ana before, but now it comes much more naturally to me since i have more direction and coaching from that video. i know where to stand. i know what to do. i’ve been maintaining diamond again instead of yoyoing between high gold and low plat.
I am Ana main. After implementing your advice I climbed from Plat to Master in ~ 100 games (I've never been in Master before). Looking forward to more educational overwatch videos :)
Definitely agree with the big at the end about mentality. The answer and path forward can be right in front of anybody but they have to be willing to accept it and choose to change first. Great video!

More videos like this. The unranked to GM video's are good too but the issue is we don't see the mistakes as often since you play like a GM already. The 1 on 1 coaching stuff is great!

If you know anything about marketing an online business you would know that aquiring customers starts with adding free value to potential customers in exchange for contact. (In this case he gets free subs and exposure for his free content) This starts people on the bottom of his value ladder and from there he can use that platform to escalate people into bigger purchases. If you don't understand marketing maybe you shouldn't be preaching about how to run a business.

Big shout out to this guy for swallowing his ego and pride and willing to listen and learn. Also big shout out to Awkward for taking the time to teach him. I've only started watching Awkward's content just recently but after watching his Kiriko educational vids I have gone from mid silver to mid gold. Its still a work in progress and I still have some skills to polish but I do feel more confident then how I usually played.
You actually seem like a fantastic 1-on-1 coach. I could see some perceiving it as harsh but you get the message across very clearly that way. Very good video!
I think the harshness is a positive, because it's the main attribute that quickly highlights potentially severe issues with a player's mindset if they have already developed a toxic link between self worth and insecurity, thus can't handle harsh criticism (when it's coming from a capable coach and not just random insults by strangers).
If a player can't handle somewhat harsh criticism, then that is what they need to focus on before even worrying about the gameplay itself. They need to ask themselves thoroughly "Do I really want to improve? Or do I just lust for the idea of being perceived as a good player?". There is always a line of course.

I saw this thread on Reddit and I remember replying and disagreeing with OP. There's a lot of factors that involve Awkward's way of teaching, and the fact is Just by WATCHING and LISTENING him play through his unranked to GM's on YT, as long as you drop your ego you will learn A LOT.
The fact that Awkward put these informational stuff for free in TH-cam is actually huge, but people always makes excuses why they cant climb. "Oh he just has good mechanics", "Oh he's just way better than me, there's no way i can play like that". No, these are excuses. As a fighting game player myself (I play at high level Tekken and played and won local tournaments in the past) we have to constantly adapt and be aware of what we're doing wrong. Adaptiveness and awareness are most of the key ways to climb in OW. As you can see in this coaching here, it's just a matter of being aware of yourself and what you're doing. Just that by itself will have a huge impact, and mechanics will come with time.
TLDR is just to listen and learn with what Awkward is saying at his unranked to GMs on YT as well as be aware of these things as you play the game. Never autopilot, and you'll climb.

I been playing ow since ow2 half way through season 1 so I’m new to that game. Hit plat 5 this week but I been improving a lot I’ll prob hit Diamond this season. I won 15-2 games to hit plat 5 lol

I’d say it can vary a little based on situation as well. If your dps and tank are in control you can focus more on support. If it’s more of a stalemate you need to be a bigger threat.

Upon reading Artif3x's reddit posts (both the initial and follow up) i must say he handled everything with grace and eloquence. I understand clickbaiting but it feels wrong to use the word hater in the title. He put in tremendous effort to be data driven and objective about his results and its clear there was no ego or hating in his conduct but rather a genuine earnest attempt (in his mind) to stop propogating what he thought at the time to be a detrimental playstyle for less mechanically inclined players. Props to the guy for taking up the coaching offer, having his viewpoint changed and providing valuable insights to us along the way.

100% agree with changing your attitude being the best thing you can do. I'm mostly a tank player in OW 1 I was silver to mid gold. In OW2 I really wanted to improve my tank gameplay and it started with me finding a A10 unranked to GM on orisa. What really helped us was that he spent the entire first 30 mins of the video going through a slide show of tank fundamentals as well as game theory with an overlay of the map. I still constantly practice these fundamentals and rewatch my Vods seeing why I died when I did. I stopped blaming my team and instead focused on what I can do better. I have currently climbed out of gold to Diamond 2 and I'm working on pushing to masters hopefully I'll make it there within a few weeks and I hope I can comment a few months later about hitting low GM. But that's going to be way tougher 😂

In diamond I still forget to use my nade a lot.
Essentially, you want to be throwing that thing on cool down. The pressure created by the anti is just way too good to not be chucking it at any available opportunity.
A really simple way to think of rotations is as follow. When they are shooting at your team, dmg, heal, use cooldowns. When they start to shoot at you instead of at your team, rotate. Don't rotate just because you feel you have been in a position too long if they are just attacking your team anyway(this is assuming your position still has value).
I was hard stuck bronze for 2 seasons but because of your ana unranked to gm i made it to gold 4 season 3. your advice is amazing and it worked for me. im aiming for plat now bcos of ur content, thank you!

I’m new to the game found you and placed gold (kiriko only), I guess I skipped most of the HEAL HEAL HEAL mentality that seems to plague most supports. It’s not like I’m good at aiming but my presence cannot be understated.
I was a plat Ana in season 2 to now being on masters playing Ana and kiriko. I realized I always knew what to do on paper but just needed to apply it in the correct situations thanks to your UR to GMs. Hopefully can make it to GM with some fine tuning. Also, biggest issues that everyone should work on is tunnel vision. Sounds simple enough but you’d be surprised on how many games it’s actually costing you.
I feel like Im in the situation you were. Im hardstuck diamond but I know on paper how to play, Im just struggling to implement it in real games. Should just start playing with my brain on
@@lumputtaja4461 yeah man, it’ll click. Most likely it’s little things you aren’t doing at the right times. For me it was tunnel vision. That dominoed into me having bad positioning, letting people die, and ult tracking. Once i actively tried to fix that, pieces started fitting. You’ll get it!

Try to pick out like 1-3 concrete things you need to improve at (e.g. better positioning, optimizing nade usage, better nanos, etc.) and then just pick one of those things to focus on each game. After a few games it should start sticking and you won't need to consciously think about it anymore. If you're not sure what you can improve on then it really helps to request a VOD review online like from r/overwatchuniversity.
Don't know what they're talking about!! I was stuck in gold support for a long time but after watching your video on Ana I was starting to climb up the ranks really fast. In 2 weeks I went from gold 3 to plat 1 and I'm confident I'm about to hit diamond. My aim is pretty good for Ana but I lacked awareness and your videos helped me out a lot.
Awkward really is a goated OW coach , I was averaging high plat/diamond for most of my time playing OW ... Now after watching his videos, I reached GM for the first time as zen about 2-3 weeks ago ... Bro is very wise and it was cool to see him coaching directly over someones shoulder , thanks Awkward for being an actual coach and teaching not only mechanics, but teaching the mindset thats needed as well
