Now when comparing this to actual SA2, this shows how tight the controls are in the second game. SA1 on the other hand gives more freedom - Sonic isn't as consistently fast here as he is in SA2, and that's not a bad thing for either of them - it's just that SA1 Sonic is designed to be less speedy (when you're actually controlling him, I'm not talking about the automated segments) and more responsive for less agressive platforming and exploring for the level design that fits his physics best. SA2 Sonic is more dynamic and fast, with the stages being more hectic and thrilling, which is something I appreciate in SA2 more. The levels are more linear for you to build up good speed throughout the whole level but you're still free to explore for some hidden spots, but it's sometimes a challenge with the tight controls the game gives you (don't get me started on that Spin Dash delay).
While I generally prefer Sonic Adventure out of the two (a lot of visual, story-related and nostalgic reasons), after replaying both of the games a bit, the conclusion ended up being that SA2's gameplay and level design (well, Sonic's individual levels specifically we're talking about, but Shadow slightly falls into the category too) are much more charming to me. I just wish it was less clunky and more responsive. Not the "turned left stick to 1mm and character missed the fucking spring while turning" responsive, the other kind of responsive. Both games have this kind of issue, but SA2's focus on absolute fast and the tight controls make this more of a chore.
@@PlayMasterChannel Huh, really? Fell the opposite for me. The levels in SA1 got the singular memorable charm in them, Emerald Coast's orca chase, Windy Valley's tornado, Lost World's huge snake gate, snake riding, and wall running, Egg Carrier's whole stage tilting. They are really memorable. Meanwhile SA2 levels are in general prettier, like how Green Forest is the best looking stage in the series, but they don't have a single definitive moment like SA1's did. Except for City Escape, that one is a different beast. Very much agree on SA2 controls being really restrictive though. Homing Attack on SA2 feels especially weak. You can look at an enemy in ~15 degree range and your attack won't even home. Meanwhile in SA1, you can have your back turned against enemy and homing attack will still hit.
I'm really wondering what a "Sonic Adventure 2: SADX Conversion Project" would look like now... Sonic Adventure 2's physics with the original Adventure's stages might make for an interesting playtime and really help me decide which game feels more fun to play. :)
That's possible seeing as there is an 06 conversion project mod of SA2 called P-02 so i think the same can be done with SADX. I don't think the hud is possible though (at least not yet.) but i don't know when it comes to modding and stuff, it actually could be possible.
Hey folks, I'm one of the mod dev for this mod, I hope you all enjoyed this video, if you have any question related to this mod or SADX modding, feel free to ask here. I would be happy to answer. :)
Your accuracy scares me. Cuzz after being stuck at Sonic's space stage (im still new to Adv 2) i decide to take it a back for a while and decided to start Sonic Generations lol
@@pkthefirst1524 not to say giving up, but the gameplay just felt restrcited like Dash to finish, Shooting platform, and treasure hunting ia a bit of both former (plus im playing the PC version). Gonna come back to it tho don't worry about that cuzz i only turn back on it briefly to enjoy other games (like Generations) before i start my college days soon
And the one thing that i appreciate from Adv 2 is the more simplistic controls (well being a dreamcast game originally and all), compared to future games that has Xbox 360 controls ( i never grew up with a console in my life)
Still going to say that I absolutely prefer SA2's gameplay, but seeing my two favorite Sonic games combined is great. Nine year old me would've lost his mind, lol.
Anyone else start the video and not know if this was just a model swap for sa2 until after the snowboarding segment in city escape? This is actually nuts how well this is made
the truth this brings back memories when I was looking for mods from SA2 for my SADX, at that time I had a not so powerful pc so I resorted to that and now someone put the animations from SA2 to SA2, another added the boost and now literally what of Truth was missing, city escape and the SA2 hud. this year would be like the future of sonic mods :')
I'm amazed that they imported these aspects into the game. I just wish Sonic didn't make that annoying sound during every homing attack. But Final Rush actually looks more fun than the original game
Haha! Love how this guy made each mechanics and ecen used the maps/levels from SA2B for this mod. :D Some still need some working on, but nonetheless, all were interesting. :) I don't know how things will look for this mod in the future, but I hope they do Tails' & Knuckles' stages next whenever theu can. And I can tell that they will be awhile. :) XD ^^ Thanks for showcasing this, Velcomia. :) :D
Tho I know no one but the modder made this, but I also know that me and others wanted this for some time, and P-02, and maybe even a P-98 and sonic adventure 2: SADX conversion project!! It can't only be me! (and maybe some magical modder could make a sonic 3d blast hack with SA1 stages or vice versa, if I don't make them first)
This is so unbelievable to see. It doesn't feel like a SADX mod. It feels like SADX and SA2 have been merged together. That being said I have an idea. Since SADX doesn't use culling unlike SA2, zoomouts of stages would be possible.
color me impressed that they managed to put the grinding in Sonic Adventure 1. Also, FUCK ME, metal harbor's A-rank would be so much easier if the SA2 spin-dash did the same physics thing that the SA1 one does with slopes.
In my opinion, Sonic's running is much better here. The walk cycle looks more natural, he doesn't go insanely fast, and he doesn't have so much vertical movement when running!
Great video.Maybe I know why you used the oiginal SA1 model from dreamcast.Because it should be like the original. It must took you a lot of work. That explains why yesterday you did not make a video.Good work Sonic Central. You are one of my four favourite channels.
Best thing about it is we can get finally get Tails and the others in Sonic's stages, and considering the lack of appearances from everyone else it truly a god send. I've been waiting for a playable Tails, freed from the confines of the mech, in SA2 for ages, but here it's if we can't bring SA1 Tails to SA2, we bring SA2 to SA1 Tails
I wouldn't mind playing this on a Dreamcast emulator, if it were possible, the original one slows down for me on my phone, but I don't let it ruin my fun for it! But SA1 plays just fine!
Honestly, think SA2s controls are a lot better than SA1. Sa1 Sonic was stiff, clunky, and kinda underwhelming. Sonic in SA2 just kinda fixed everything about the controls in SA1.
I disagree. Sonic in SA1 was a lot smoother to control. Not to mention his jumps always feel like you can perfectly land wherever you're trying to go. SA2's controls is kinda twitchy. I think Sonic controls better at high speed in SA2, but in terms of normal speed movement, it doesn't get any better than SA1, imo.
BakuGOAT ehh I disagree. In Sa2, I never feel like I’m gonna miss a platform. Sonic even grabs onto ledges. Sa2 feels a lot more natural to control.I think Sonics animations help how sonic feels in the game.

Wow this actually looks a lot more fluid than the original SA2
That's because Sonic Adventure DX is actually way more fluid than Adventure 2/ Adventure 2 battle
