Johnson,* played with the same *mastery & exuberance as a century ago.* (And jazz family, please make special room for this name: *James Reese Europe.* his 369th Infantry Regiment - *the “Harlem Hellfighters”* - were the very *first* to bring jazz to French soil, in 1918). In 2021, *armed with their music, Emmet & our beloved Harlem trio have been making peace* during these hellish times of the past year & a half. They paid tribute to their late brother & drummer, *Lawrence Leathers,* who made *Paris his home and galvanized the New York & international jazz community.* And in a fitting close to the evening, they shared the club stage with fellow drummer *Gregory Hutchinson* in a blues send-off. *This swinging night at Le Duc des Lombards carries a sweet significance that merits our attention* - the parallels & intersections of history continue to inspire… *et l’héritage du jazz perdure!*
