Anyone knows, whether the bass player is playing live or it's just the bass backup. If it is the live bass performance, he's the master of pop-funk. I'm asking because I hear slap bass but on the video the guy is playing the fingers style.
Fun fact: They were rivals with a band called “Midnight” that was fronted by Gavin Rossdale of Bush fame. Bush was the biggest rock band in the world for a year or two-and they sounded absolutely nothing like Rossdale’s former band. There are a few videos of Rossdale performing a Midnight song, and it’s unbelievably cheesy in that late 80s kind of way. Bush was pretty much a “grunge” band, at least on their first couple of albums. Midnight was...not grunge at all. 😆🤣😂
I guess they thought they might not be taken seriously because they were pretty boys. This video shows how good they were at playing their instruments...
They were talentless little ass-hats who basically had their best selling album co-written and arranged by a session keyboard player, who was an official member, called Toby Anderson. Because he didn't live up to their "pretty boy" image he was for the most part, hidden away, never appearing in official photos etc. If it wasn't for him they would've went tits up...... was retro soul and funk a thing in the UK around this time ? reminds me of Scritti Politti without its leader & lead singers falsetto , counter tenor voice
There's an interesting interview from The Tube with Paula Yates (it is on YT) where they said it took a few them years to find labels that would let them create authentically without being manipulatedn and even then they had to compromise. Given they were just about to release Misfit their second track, it was a great question from Paula and an honest answer from the lads. But I can't help wonder if that sealed their fate. They were Leona Lewis'ed.
That bass playing is out of this world. 👍👍👍
