  • Changing light bulbs in your oven is painless and easy. Remember to not touch halogen bulbs with your finger -- use a cloth or glove.

I was able to unscrew it very easily after *hitting the glass dome with a rubber mallet*. Loosened it with two taps after struggling fruitlessly to simply do it by hand like in the video. Thank you to the commenters who mentioned mallets! ♥

Should be retitled 'Changing Light Bulbs in You Oven ............ When the oven is brand new'. Now try unscrewing the glass cover on an oven that's several years old, been through hundreds of heating and cooling cycles and the glass cover has been cooked into place.

After trying 2 different size swivel oil filter wrenches I had a hunch from some prior experience. Like all of you who told of the
twisting back and forth I let the glass cover go back to its resting state and pushed in. There is a notch of some kind that keeps the cover from
engaging with the grooves of the recipient. So ( now this oven is 9 years old a Maytag) when I pushed in I could twist it counter clockwise and remove it. I was still careful as I didn’t want anything to break off. The sweet guy at the automotive store told me I would figure it out. Now, the second oil filter wrench needs to go back and I need to leave instructions on the information sheet I got when I bought it for the folks that eventually buy my house. There were absolutely NO instructions on taking the bulb cover off. whew! Hope this helps someone.

The most difficult thing is getting the bulb base out if the light bulb breaks off! With the oven unplugged, try using some needle nose pliers to grip the edge then twist. In the end however the most useful tool is the wooden end of a broom handle. Stick it into the socket and twist. It seems to work every time to get the stuck base to unscrew. Then you can reach in and unscrew it the rest of the way to get it out!

Throw on rubber gloves and turn counter clockwise with some major arm strength. It’ll come off even after you do the self cleaning mode.

I did it! Used a butter knife to gently pry between the metal base and the glass. I could see they were wiggling together instead of separating. Otherwise brute force, with rubber gloves and two hands did not work. What a headache. Literally, gave me a headache.

I got mine off wearing a rubber glove! Nothing else worked the tool was rubbish. Even the oven repair man couldn't get it off as inside the grill and he was worried about breaking it. Mine needed a clockwise turn to get it off. Happy now as have a new lamp cover and bulb. Previous owners left it in a bad state bulb cover was welded on.

First turn off or remove the main stove switch or fuse -then just use Multigrips to grip the glass edges - perhaps wrap some electrical tape or duct tape around it first - just one strip - to protect the glass from being marked by the teeth of the multigrips - ( this is not absolutely necessary ) grip and turn anticlockwise and it should screw out - then use rubber gloves to remove the little bulb if it is tight ...-- put back in the same way to ensure a tight fit ... and thats it anyone can do it

well, I have a FIVESTAR range, with a convection oven. I could NOT get the glass piece unscrewed off the light bulb. no matter when I did. I bought on amazon, a TEKTON 12" oil filter pliers. I put some duct tape on the glass, so it wouldn't break, and then took the oil filter pliers and put it around the glass, and POOF, it came loose. ! ! ! ! BEST IDEA YET ! ! ! :o)

Heat the oven before trying to remove the glass bulb cover. Not so hot that you can't touch the thing obviously. The heat will soften any grease and gunk that is sticking the cover in place and should unscrew

I'm tempted to spray a bit of WD-40, but I'm worried about liquid and electricity - of course.
But WHAT do I do now? Will I be okay if I turn off electricity to the oven at the fuse box, and do use WD40?

What if the glass lens is practically welded in place after a pyrolytic clean, and in a corner where you struggle to get your fingers round it and put any kind of strength into turning it? I feel like the thing will crack if I exert too much pressure on it, but it just won't budge!

For anyone else who comes looking for answers, people have already suggested using a rubber glove to turn it. I used a rubber glove and both hands with all my strength and eventually it started moving. I think you'd have to be really quite strong to be able to break it with just your fingertips and even if that happens, I expect you could find a replacement on eBay or somewhere. There are also tools on eBay for oven cover removal, but I managed to get it sorted without the tool.

Hi John, with an issue like this, there is no further remote troubleshooting we can offer. A service technician can safely remove this part without it breaking and risking damage to yourself or the appliance.

    • @johntanner6438
      @johntanner6438 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@BoschHomeAppliancesNAmerica thanks for your reply, but I find it lacking and offensive to the public you serve. For starters, if you KNOW that high temps and food greases have shown over time to essentially 'bake' this outer glass bulb on to it's thread, then at a minimum you should have designed around the inability of get the cover off by placing LED bulbs in there that might never need replacing. Additionally, trying to send us to a service repair tech for $100 to replace a bulb indicates they have a tool to remove the cover for your poor design; what is that tool and why aren't you offering that to the general public? Really, really poor and irresponsible behavior on behalf of Bosch and their 'support' staff.
