  • This video shows how to replace a blown oven bulb.
This oven is a Bosch, but many others are exactly the same. The bulb that I am fitting is a Philips SES 25 W E14 Oven bulb which was bought from Screwfix in a pack of two for £2.19
Genuine Plastic Tool for removing bulb cover £7 on amazon amzn.to/2TMUnry
Amazon Link to oven bulb, amzn.to/371lLq5

For anyone attempting this, you dont need pliers or a special tool to remove the glass cover. Just a tea towel or gloves to protect your hands. It just unscrews anti clockwise, if anything pliers run the risk of damaging the glass cover. The cover is basically a small jar, unless it baked on you'll be fine with your hands.

Yeap, worked for me as well, The 14 W is not very bright. I have accidentally bought the 14 W. The Bosh manual, at least for my oven recommends 40W.

Leave the oven on 200 degrees centigrade for three minutes to heat up the grease that has caked the glass cover. Then with rubber gloves you should be able to twist it off anti-clockwise.

Thanks for a clear video. For me the bulb keeps turning round and round in the socket but doesn't bite. There is a metal washer which seems to have come out with the bulb - it fits over the bulb thread and covers about 2 turns of the thread. I can't work out how to get the washer back into the socket - I've tried inserting the bulb with the washer attached to it, but it doesn't bite. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

@@aaanton11 Thanks! Washer may be the wrong word - it looks like a washer but has a thread inside and outside of it, so it threads over the bulb but also into the fitting. I think the bulb threaded part was too narrow and this widens it. Anyway I've ordered the same bulbs that you used, which look wider than mine, so hopefully that will solve it.

Many thanks for this video.......had tried by hand to remove the glass cover several times which was impossible & caused a great deal of stress, agitation & swearing......Had spoken with Bosch last week before seeing the video & they sold me a plastic removal tool & a new bulb at a cost of £15.80 !! The plastic removal tool is not much use when some imbecile at Bosch has torqued up the glass cover unit to the the same lb/ft as a car wheel nut !! Take a bow Bosch whilst I clap & blow a trumpet with a flag on it for a very poor design.....Thankfully my grips where large enough to fit round the glass cover & less than 30 seconds later the cover was off......a brilliant & simple solution to a unnecessary problem created Bosch.

Hi Anton, Great video demo. I am having an awful job trying to get my Neff bulb cover off with no joy. With no help from Neff other than a £99 call out fee. 😒😒😤. Where did you get your pliers from because I can’t find anything large enough to get the grip required. Please can you help and send link for where to purchase pliers.

Hi, We just changed the 40 watt bulb in a bosch oven but the light still does not work. The old bulb was broken but we did manage to unscrew the metal bit to get the new bulb in. Any ideas why a new bulb would not work?

I would check the contacts in the bulb holder, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

@@aaanton11 Thanks, we used some foil and it still did not turn on so gave up. After using the oven again 5 mins later the bulb turned on and now works every time!

You dont need a tool at all. I put on a pair of rubber gloves and it came off no problem!!

If I had done this the grips would have slipped and ripped the element to bits.

Try warm in the oven up first, before attempting to unscrew that will usually break the seal Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

@@aaanton11 I struggled for an hour last night trying to get the glass off without any success! I borrowed some stilsons off my plumber mate this morning and it took 2 seconds to break the seal and the thing unscrewed as in your video. My question is why does the glass have to lock? Why cant it simply unscrew from the beginning? They just want to sell you a £5 nylon tool that I hear doesn't work anyway!

My bulb blows my Fuse X 2, so does that mean an electrician can sort it, or does it have to be a cooker guy. Please reply ASAP as am desperate ( the cooker is still working though,).?

Here is the easier way. Unscrew the glass cover with your hand wearing a latex glove. Worked like a charm.

Rule number 1 - turn off the power!! The air is blue in this house, not only has the bulb blown into little pieces , hubby cannot for the life of him remove what is left to be able to replace the bulb.
