    Hi, thank you for sharing your insights! Was wondering, because I've heard a lot of my friends who done it says that usually poor reno works are the trade off of being affordable price. Do you think this is true for your context? I was wondering if paying for a higher price for better quality and workmanship is true here

    • @haylivk
      @haylivk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Ripley! ☺️ My reno was 37K (reno, tiles, electrical, aircon etc) + 20K (furniture, fittings, appliances); you can decide where it lies on the cost spectrum :)
      Personally, I’ve friends whose reno amounted to a similar total cost but had much better quality/workmanship, but that’s subjective and based on our circle’s exp as well.
      Definitely agree that paying more to engage quality IDs might help! It’s fair (quality investment = quality output), but it also really depends on luck. I’ve also read about other renos that costed way more that it should that didn’t end that well 😢

    What we feel is a defect may be brushed away by HDB. How did you convince the HDB officer that a replacement was needed? Any advice?

    • @haylivk
      @haylivk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try showing them reference photos of units that are properly done with detailed photos of your defects and most importantly, be extremely persistent. There were instances where the workers told us that it's not their job, and told us to settle it ourselves / our HDB officer being unresponsive. Overall it took ~2 months to get everything settled, with reminder calls/emails every few days. Hope this helps 💪🏻

      @@dawajugi - replacement of drawers/doors: nope they didn’t charge, but it was minimal (~3). They mainly filled it in for dents/coloured over for chips. Not the best, but we rly wanted to finish up the reno ASAP lol.
      - Short hanger bars: get them to replace the entire bar! It means that they cut too much / gave you a bar that’s too short. It’s 100% a defect. Tell them you paid for a hanging bar, not a loose rod :/
      I hope you haven’t released 100% of the payment to them yet? Do keep 10-15% of the reno payment first and only transfer when they’ve completed ALL of the defects rectification to your standard. If they refuse to do the defects for you maybe you can treat it as them giving you a 10% discount for their lack of quality :/

    more than half of the defects shown are things that they honestly could have just done it properly for the first time.. now they end up gotta come and touch up here and there.. waste of manpower & man hours sia.. Makes me wonder did the ID even do any inspection in the first place

    • @haylivk
      @haylivk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doubt so. He just forwards all my defect notes to the contractors, and gives me a one-liner answer like oh they did everything! Pls check. And I've to go through 1 by 1 to find out what they've not completed... 100% baby-shitting 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks for knowing my pain
