    I was in Egypt in 1981. When I visited the Valley of the Kings in Luxor there was an unwrapped Roman era mummy that was in very poor condition just lying on the ground near the foot path. Nearby their was a small cave or crypt that was partially blocked off with a pile rocks. Inside I found four or five more Roman period mummys, but these were still wrapped with the strips of cloth had wood pieces covering the head portions with realistic paintings of the faces of the deceased still on them. The faces looked typical of the faces that you see in other Roman paintings about 100-200 AD.

      That’s cool, those mummies you seen were Fayum mummy paintings.

    • @davidemmet7343

      @@xJets1 I was amazed that I could find mummies just that were laying around on the ground since it's the sort of thing that you would expect to find in a museum in the US. I tried to take pictures of the mummies inside the cave, but I didn't have a flash for my camera.
      I recommend that everyone visit Egypt if they can. I spent two months there when I was 20 exploring every corner. I stayed in local hotels that only cost me $4.00 a night for a double, took a six day boat ride in a small Faluka sailboat down the Nile from Aswan to Luxor and visited St. Anthony's Monastery near the Red Sea. It is fascinatingly place!

      @@nychris2258 well it may surprise you to know that I don’t need to make up fake emotions for TH-cam comment sections. I guess “offended” was a poor word choice. You’re right- im not personally offended. What I was trying to say was: this is a really cool video and I love seeing what’s under the wraps, but I have heard that they mummified people in very specific ways because of their afterlife beliefs; so I also wonder if moving and unwrapping these people might be an affront to their religious practices- which makes me feel kinda bad. (Coming from a non-woke, non-snowflake point of view. Was just a thought that crossed my mind. I’m more intrigued than “offended”)

    Thinking more about this and deeply, perhaps the mummified body was a female, perhaps a royal blood, the missing limbs may be because of a crocodile or other creature that may have attacked the male or female person, not only the limbs being gone but also some other sectors of the body. Very fascinating but also you feel some what sorry for the child

    In my classical archaeology university time I only got to participate in two unwrapping sessions both of which were supposedly from the early 15 & 16th dynasty. If memory serves (it’s been thirty years) both were male priests. The Roman era as one can see had bizarre changes to the mummification procedure that clearly demarcated different times in history. While I absolutely love Roman history I am not a huge fan of their history within Egypt. Just my two cents worth of opinion 😂

    • @NYUArchaeology

      Romans were just invaders. Same as ptolemy peoples. If you only knew this history sir it'll change your life overnight. It gets extremely deep if you ever need me to explain some it goes all the way up to Carthage. You wouldn't believe me if I told you. But I teach this history daily here in NY.

    I don’t understand how you can do this. Doesn’t your conscience bother you? It’s no different to grave robbing as far as I’m concerned. Would you open the coffin of someone who died a month ago? Just because these people died thousands of years ago doesn’t make any difference morally. They were born, lived, loved others enjoyed life worried about some things, just like we do today. I won’t watch the clip. I just hope that what I’ve said makes people think about how they’d feel about a bunch of strangers gawking at the dead body of someone they loved.

    • @AFatalPapercut
      @AFatalPapercut หลายเดือนก่อน

      Time DOES make a difference in how people perceive something. Also culture.
      Humanity has always had a fascination with death and have "gawked" at the bodies of their loved ones for millenia.
      Some cultures place their loved ones on the side of a mountain and just let nature do it's thing, visiting them whenever they want.
      Some unbury their relatives every year just to dance with their corpse and dress them up.
      Your position is from the perspective of a Westerner. Most of the rest off the world handles death quite differently.
      Also...science needs to get it's hands a little dirty from time to time if it ever hopes to learn anything.

    This is sad these people I’m not even from the culture I’m not even from that area they should not disrespecting mummy or have any dealings with the mummy this should be studied by their own people. I’m tired of people stealing peoples history.

    • @Adv18
      @Adv18 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How is this stealing people’s history? It’s called being an Archaeologist, and unfortunately for modern day Egypt, it’s well known that the most advanced and trained Archaeologists come from Britain.
      Secondly, it’s not unusual for another country to study the history & cultures of other countries to give a fair, and non biased telling of that countries history.
      I mean, an example of this: would you have expected Germany to give a fair, and non biased telling of the holocaust?
      I’d rather have people on the job who know what they are doing rather than a bunch of unqualified clowns whose only claim is they are from that country lol, and without disrespect to modern day Egypt, their school & colleges for Archaeology really aren’t the best.

    I love Science,I love adventure.Only a diseased mind would take a strangers body wrapped thousands of years ago. Usually reserved for the elite and well to do.After the family interred the loved one with precise ceremonies and much grieving sometimes for days, a misguided grave robber undoes all the coverings and completely dissects the dear departed for simple curiosity.Adding absolutely no useful information that directly helps the advancement of humans in anyway way.Simple Common sense or respect for the Dead are absent. I am a Construction Worker. I build the world, making it a safe and comfortable place to live, Directly helping mankind and womankind to live a useful and productive life and temporary existence.

    Good thing nobody tried to come up the speculation that these remains were of Jesus of Nazareth in an effort to deny His resurrection like many around the world says that the Lord Jesus Christ never existed in particular many modern era Jews like to say or that the resurrection even if they say that yes Jesus of Nazareth existed that He could not possibly resurrected..
