I was in Egypt in 1981. When I visited the Valley of the Kings in Luxor there was an unwrapped Roman era mummy that was in very poor condition just lying on the ground near the foot path. Nearby their was a small cave or crypt that was partially blocked off with a pile rocks. Inside I found four or five more Roman period mummys, but these were still wrapped with the strips of cloth had wood pieces covering the head portions with realistic paintings of the faces of the deceased still on them. The faces looked typical of the faces that you see in other Roman paintings about 100-200 AD.
@@xJets1 I was amazed that I could find mummies just that were laying around on the ground since it's the sort of thing that you would expect to find in a museum in the US. I tried to take pictures of the mummies inside the cave, but I didn't have a flash for my camera. I recommend that everyone visit Egypt if they can. I spent two months there when I was 20 exploring every corner. I stayed in local hotels that only cost me $4.00 a night for a double, took a six day boat ride in a small Faluka sailboat down the Nile from Aswan to Luxor and visited St. Anthony's Monastery near the Red Sea. It is fascinatingly place!
