  • St. Sebastian of San Francisco & Jackson, Apostle to all America and first American-born priest, reposed in 1940 after his remarkable labor for Christ and His lost sheep. This excerpt comes from his essay "The True Church of Christ" which is recorded in full by Orthodox Wisdom (see link below).
St. Sebastian lists five criteria for true and lawful priesthood:
    1) Unbroken succession from the Apostles
    2) Confession of the truth and rejection of heresy
    3) Administer sacraments according the rules of the Church, not changing essential actions of the rites
    4) Live according the truth of the Church, her Ecumenical Councils and Holy Tradition
    5) Unity with the Orthodox Church in the spirit of peace and love
This is an excerpt from St. Sebastian's article "The True Church of Christ". Listen to the full text here:

    _______
    St. Sebastian writes:
If, for instance, in a certain locality bishops and priests were found to be wanting, the succession being broken, and in their absence the laity elected new ones and laid their hands upon them and proclaimed them to be bishops and presbyters, such a hierarchy would be unlawful and without grace, as the laity cannot transmit that which they do not possess themselves-the grace of the priesthood.
An authentic hierarchy is such, which confesses all the truths of holy religion, for there are heresies which entirely deprive bishops and priests of the ministerial grace.
A Priesthood to be lawful must administer the Sacraments orderly, according to the rules of the Holy Church Catholic, not changing essential actions, as there are acts and conditions in the rites of Mysteries that are essential, without which a certain Sacrament may not be valid. Should a sacred minister violate an essential rule he is subject to degradation, if the violation has been intentional, or at least, the Mystery is void of power. The seventh rule of the Apostolic Canon enjoins: "Should anyone, bishop or presbyter, administer not three immersions in Baptism in commemoration of the death of the Lord, but one, let him be cast out." And those who were baptized by one immersion, it was ordered that they should be rebaptized.
The Orthodox Church is catholic, because she was organized by the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of all people in the whole world, and she is the gathering of all true believers in all places, times, and peoples.

Cast it out! You can fight it, overpower it, and get it out of yourself - you have sovereignty over your own body, mind and soul. I have a friend who got possesed; don't give it any power over you - every time it tries to affect you, fight it! They have power because you give it to them. If you can summon your will-force, you can fight it and win. Project your will at the demon and attack it; you can win because you have the authority over your own being. If you don't attack it, it will gradually destroy your mind, physical body, and spirit, so you can't surrender to it on any level - you have to fight it. The process of fighting it is what gives you power and sovereignty; you must claim those things; no one else can do that for you. Call on God as you do it. They win because people gradually surrender to them.

I've had a curiosity on my mind a while now: if a Catholic priest converts to Eastern Orthodox, is he still a priest bound by his vows?

One cannot be a priest outside of the Church since the priesthood is a sacrament and function of the Church. Even if he is received into the Church as a priest it doesn’t mean he was a true priest before uniting to the Orthodox Church.

@OrthodoxWisdom im struggling with the calander issues and unfortunately the holy words of saint Sebastian trouble me for he says preists and bishops in heresy lose their grace...

We have many examples of bishops who have taught heresy but the grace of the Mysteries still was active through them and received by the faithful. Once a bishop or priest is defrocked by a synod they lose grace. Also, the priest or bishop can lose personal grace when embracing heresy but the grace of the Mysteries may still be present through them. I suggest listening to some of the videos Fr. Peter Heers has made in his playlist “On the Temptation from the Right”: th-cam.com/play/PLCFiE3qfVkDgIRd6ZyYQeWq6pto4qakhH.html&si=S_sBIbm9d--HSa9i

I wish more priests of my Roman Catholic faith were more conservative and orthodox. Because there's unfortunately more liberal Catholic priests in my Roman Catholic faith and they preach anything that is contrary to the Catholic faith.

Actually, any duly baptized(one who received it through proper succession) Christian can baptize and take communion without the presence of a bishop as long as they are acting in obedience to the Holy Spirit. Those baptized in Johns baptism where not Christians and as such had to be baptized, but the Ethiopian who was newly baptized could go back to Ethiopia and baptize others. They can't however impart the position of pastor, bishop or priest because that takes a bishop or permit from a bishop.

The Canons of the Ecumenical Councils and the Saints of the Orthodox Church say otherwise. One must have the criteria set forth by St. Sebastian, who is merely summarizing what was handed down to him, in order to baptize and initiate a man into the Mystery of Christ and His Church. Only in the case of extreme emergencies and situations that require it, are exceptions made to this rule, since God is the master of His commandments.
