    I don't know what to say, l stumbled onto this video and it brought back memories of sleeping in the engine room beside a magnificent Gardener.
    I felt secure and warm falling asleep beside something l seen as a strong and reliable almost human companion.
    The steady constant beat told me everything was OK, and l was safe.

    Funny to see that both Gardners have names (Aleida and Anja) engraved on the name plates, seems that someone really cares about them.
    Haven't seen better work done on them anywhere.

    Good for another 50 years. I bet it would have been cheaper to fit new engines than rebuild those beauties.

    Great video, I love the work you have done on the classic Feadship models in recent years. I am interested to know the change in performance on the Gardner Diesels after the rebuild, has power increased and consumption dropped?

    • @keesvandenhoekyacht
      @keesvandenhoekyacht  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes..better performance overall. We modernised certain items inside the engines.

    Great work on the mechanics, but the grey paint should be a darker shade. Original "Gardner Grey " was the colour of the engines in the opening scene. Also the rocker covers should be polished aluminium only, not red. It looks wrong.
    Worked on 6LW ,6LX and 5LW motors myself and they were super reliable.

      I didn't search original...it is a yacht, and wanted to make the engineroom a showcase. See here: photos.app.goo.gl/BYdrDM8TeamMhW7F8

      @dartskipper .I'm hoping to rebuild my 6LX recently purchased which lay for 12 years. It's seized after laying up. What in your opinion is the red flag on a 6LX if any to watch out for?

    • @dartskipper3170
      @dartskipper3170 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brianmcmenamin7269 If you knew why the engine was laid up it would be great. But if you can free it up only turn it by hand at first. Suspect piston rings and damage to the bores. Also check the timing chain for any adjustment left. If none it has probably stretched. Also examine valves and seats, valves can be burnt or badly pitted and seats can be cracked. Crankshaft and bearings will also need checking. Last of all examine the fuel pump. The priming levers will give you some clue to its condition.
      Good luck! !

      @@dartskipper3170 The engine was a stationary engine I believe came from Aberdeen that ran a grain crusher and subsequently to Larne in NI to run another grain crusher indoors. It was laid up after the family moved premises and the crusher was no longer required. It was mated to a David Brown gearbox. A lot of crud around the gearbox and on the clutch plate. The priming levers are mostly stuck and the compression release lever stuck on front cylinder head. I will be removing injectors soon to soak the pistons with diesel for a week or so. Not hopefull internals will be good tbh!!
      Appreciate your reply!
