Rob H. called his in, the guitar work on "Catch the Rainbow" is great, the vocals dropping it way from the top, Holy Diver and Straight Through the Heart were re-written, like that's ok, so yeah this wins!
It'll be Oz Fox or Michael Sweet who are both shit hot. Unfortunately, the somewhat comedic value of Stryper detracts away from the fact those two were fantastic guitarists. Check out Loud 'n' Clear, The Way and Free. Some top soloing in those three songs, cheesiness aside.
Sorry but Halford should have covered this instead and Stryper should have covered Temple of the King. Scorpions did great but they would have done great on some other songs as well. That being said I felt Metallica knocked it out the park.

Stryper doing Heaven & Hell. PMSL. I do actually like stryper though. Just a bit against type for them lyrically.
I'm not much for the glam sound. Dio's vocals were crushing and the sound that surrounded him. This was hard for me to listen to.

Nope... Chris Cornell. Say what you will about Soundgarden, et al. but he has that Dio howl like few others.
Halford wanted to do Rainbow in the Dark, but Corey Taylor beat him to it. Apparently Corey was one of the first people who got dibs on song choice.
But forreal tho, Stryper killed this cover. I don't think Halford's would've been as good imo. And I'm much more of a Priest fan for sure haha
