My friends and I went to the Roxy in Hollywood when Mr varney was first starting his metal promotions. There was like 15 bands. None of them had a real song line up. I think there was 20 people in the audience. Got to see a lot of unknowns...slayer, king diamond, Metallica with Dave mustaine and cliff Burton. Betsy from bitch comes out in a leather teddy and started giving buttons to anyone who would kiss her ass. That was the start of metal. That was the first time they opened the Roxy in 25 years. The next day we got to Lizzy Borden in a high school auditorium..

Absolutely a classic masterpiece of rock history: Dio joining Black Sabbath (after Iommi had kicked Ozzy out of the band), and recording one of the best albums ever! Hands down some of the best work from Iommi, Butler, Ward, and of course Ronnie. Had met RJD at a Blue Murder album release party years later, he was one of the coolest musicians I'd ever met! On a completely different note, I was in an auto accident right around the same time this album was released and tragically my brothers girlfriend died in the accident, the song playing at the time -"Die Young"... R.I.P. Jenny we will never forget you!
When I first came to LA in 1980 I attended Summer Blowout concert held at the LA Coliseum during the day, Ronnie declared they were not used to playing in the light, but proceeded to burn, so powerful and surreal; my dark side was reminded there are two worlds to constantly choose from...this album was one of the few reincarnations that evolved beyond past glories.
my older brother bought this album and I was like, "no Ozzy? it must suck!" then he played it. I was enraptured! By "Children of the Sea" I was hooked, by "Wishing Well" I was like "Ozzy who?" Every song a quality piece of pure elemental rare METAL!

The greatest heavy metal vocalist..
Legend Dio
I will never forget
For me, he was more a hard-rock singer, not a metal singer!?
what a pointless comparison. He was a singer. Maybe he just kept playing the trumpet
Go Ronnie
@@Baldur1975 Agreed, an absolutely pointless comparison. Thank goodness he gave up that trumpet!
Could have sung opera with that voice!
Lonely is the word man.. one of the finest songs ever written!
The guitar and vocals have captivated me since 1982 when I was 13 yrs old and it still hits me after all these years and makes me want to rock the hell out like there is no tomorrow! 🤘
Listen to rainbow. Ritchie Blackmore and dio singing. Try man on the silver mountain
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼go for it bro, never say die
I worked in airfreight. I personally went to LA to take Black Sabbath to Hawaii on the Black and Blue tour. Ronnie and I became friends..He was one of the nicest and most talented people in the music business. I helped him with DIO also. We remained friendly until his passing. RIP in HEAVEN my friend.
He's a great talent, his voice was tops. May he rest in heavy metal peace!!!
Voice of an angel. Saw him in 74 with 'ELF'.
@@mikeernest1764 I saw him with Ritchie's Blackmore Rainbow in 1981 and was simply fantastic!!! A GREAT Showman, he really leads every band he was in, RIP Ronnie James Dio
I remember of a Phrase in a forum: Please God take Justin Bieber with you and bring us back Dio!!!!
@@ignaciogarcia1690 Dio was not in Rainbow in 1981 , he was in Sabbath in 1981 . I saw Rainbow in 1979 they had Graham Bonnet Dio left earlier that same year . Then saw Sabbath in 1980 in New York with Dio (black and blue)! , then I saw Dio in Dallas twice.. Hell of a singer..Probably the best.
静と動の曲の雰囲気が上手く繋がっていて、通しで聴くとその世界観に引き込まれていきますね👍🏻
30年以上前に初めて聴いた時からその素晴らしさは変わらないです。
So cool❗️
No idea what that says but I'm going to like it anyway
Saw RJD with his band Elf in 77. They were the warm up band and blew the head liner away.
He was a powerful singer.
Ronnie James is true legend, very powerful voice
Almost 42 years still rocking it!!!!!!!
It's unbelievable how much better this album gets with age.
timeless
Absolutely perfect from start to finish.
@@ΑναστάσιοςΠαπαζαχαρίου "Masterpiece' s Album"
After 40 years being a Metal fan and hearing almost everything, enjoying from hard rock to extreme genres, I consider that this is the finest Metal album ever
I remember hearing Heaven and Hell on the radio for the first time. I was staggered. Had to purchase the album immediately and did. Decided to play the whole thing to see which tunes were worthy of play. As you know ALL OF THEM ARE AMAZING... To this day I have never been more enthralled by a release from any group. H&H is a true monument of metal mastery that remains unequaled in my opinion.
Yep
100% agree!
I had auto-taped some FM when I was in college, played it back years later and heard Neon Knights but they never said who the band was and I didn't know. I had to dig around (before the internet) just to figure it out. I was hooked on Sabbath after that, it really started my love of metal.
I forgot how good this album was. These tunes have been in my head since the release date. Rock on Ronnie.
This is crown jewel of my metal albums ! Black Sabbath reach whole new level with Ronnie 💎
Gosh.....it is SOOOO good to listen to this brilliant album once again after a few years...... Black Sabbath...... Godfathers of the heavy metal genre....... what a wonderful opener and the quality does not let up over the remainder of the album.....enough said!!!!
This music is so good. I never listened to sabbath when I was young, but now I really enjoy it, especially this album is remarkable...
Remarkable
JUST LEARN THE TRUTH, OF THE MIGHTY BLACK SABBATH. MY FRIEND.
The music is truly so good! I wouldn't say that about the vocals. I mean it's good, but I'm not into it.
@San Patricio's Space Dolphin Brigada surely he is not into it! He is deaf!
HAHAHA
Just like you say but i'm 54 and glad to have this kept aside for todays emptyness in music industry 😁
Neon Knights 00:00
Children of the Sea 03:54
Lady Evil 09:29
Heaven and Hell 13:55

67 YEARS OLD🙏🙏
Thanks for that Edu .
Thanx...Die Young might be the best song on this album.
So glad I was alive to hear and see bands like this, this album is a masterpiece the likes of which we will never see again
The best album of all time.
YES
"Love can be seen as the answer, yet nobody bleeds for the dancer" - well said Ronnie
Life's fantasy to be locked away and still think your free 🤘
You've got to bleed for the dancer
I dont understand?
@@kenglass7833 Only Ronnie truly understands! Yet I think the "bleed" part means sacrificing your time, energy, and resources for someone. & the "dancer" part is referring to people that don't take life very seriously and just focus on having fun, not necessarily being successful!
@@enlight8 I thought maybe he is saying that he finds that Love conquers all and that it should be our true life guide but the second part is saying that nobody gives it back ? As if he is the dancer and he is getting disillusioned that he bleeds for everyone but nobody for him ? I' m new to this Dio stuff as I just discovered him from his recent movie. He is amazing !!!!
A true classic. It's hard to imagine a better hard rock album.
Timeless. People will be listening to this album hundreds of years from now.
It's too bad we lost Ronnie so early in life. He really took the front man for Black Sabath I was lucky to went and seen them in 1980
Ronnie was a good guy for sure.
I saw both that tour & The Mob Rules.
I did too! The MOB rules tour!!
@@Am3ro5e I did both of those tours & he was spectacular both times.
Agreed. Such range. Beauty of control. I miss this voice. For many years.
From Rainbow 🌈 to Black Sabbath, truly amazing music 🎵🎶🎵
From Ronnie and the Redcaps to Elf to Rainbow to Sabbath to solo.... truly amazing music

Hearing him on Heaven and Hell always makes me tear up. He was one of the greatest. RIP Ronnie.
hi i dont tear up csuse if gives md som rd of my best times growing up in nj
Music will never be the same as it was. This was my youth, I’d do anything to go back and experience it all over,… even the rough times.
This is what I call a perfect album 💿,, Musically and Production wise a masterpiece 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
One of the best Albums ever.
I was just thinking excalty the same
Speaking of Dio, long live rock and roll is right up there for me.
Iommi's work on Lonely is the Word, is some of the finest arrangement, playing and emotion in rock history.
The whole Iommi's stuff in every song of this album is just a thing of Gods.
that solo just mind blowing...
Gosh, yeah, he sounds like Alex Lifeson at some points....!!! Goose Bumps...!!!!
many guitar players immediately started imitated that sound
This is one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Its like lighting captured in a bottle. Every song is electric and honestly sounds magical. 10/10 fucking amazing
best album ever, title track is the best song ever written
Tony Iommi's playing on this album is what inspired me to play guitar. His playing is so melodic and expressive, but accessable. This is still one of my all time favorite albums. R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio.
Which song dude. It's the whole album. -_-
@@StepOnLegos1 "children of the sea", I forgot it wasn't song by song. My bad
One of the few albums I ever listened to....and loved every track. Dio, you rocked🤘
First heard this after a grueling football practice in High School and was blown away by the riff lines and blended change ups intermixed with the bass lines in Neon Knights. I bought the album a few weeks later off a fence in school who got them really cheap and wore out my turntable listening to it, it still holds up 40 years later. A very powerful and emotionally charged album. DIO will always be one of the best lead singers in the metal genre.
Thats so cool how we remember and associate these great albums with our memories and to the day ! Football practice, that's awesome. I was hanging out with a really fine girl I met after moving back to OC CA. after school. and this was playing. Good Times.
My thoughts exactly my friend
The best vocalist Heavy Metal ever, without no doubt...

... legendary BLACK SABBATH 🇬🇧 (formerly POLKA TULK BLUES BAND 🇬🇧/ POLKA TULK 🇬🇧/ EARTH 🇬🇧) from the UK, Heavy-/ Doom-Metal institution formed in 1968 - here feat. the masterful US American guy Ronnie James Dio aka Ronald James Padavona [R.I.P. 2010] on vocs ... 🤘 🇬🇧
quorthon is better
I remember listening to this album over 40 years ago and it was as amazing then as it is now.
One more thing...Bill and Gezzer in my opinion were the best rythm section in metal history. Definitely spotlighted here!
I am a huge Ozzy fan and would not accept this album as to me Black Sabbath was done when Ozzy was gone. It took me 10 years to finally appreciate this album and RJD. Killer album
Man , cruising the back roads ( 1980 something )on a weekday morning with this cranking and being FREE !!! This was my favorite linup by far.
The 80's, heavy metal paradise!!!!
YEP!.
Never will see a period full of great groups and tunes of real rock than the 80s...that¡s for sure!!!
So true, 70/80's rock/metal was the best.. From Sabbath, Purple, Floyd, Queen, Nazareth, Zep, Rush, Iron Maiden.. Many more.. A special time for rock n metal From an old rocker! 👍🇬🇧
Does Anyone Have a Time Machine? I need to go Back to 1978- 1995,🤘🤘🤘😎

Long live Ronnie... thank you for your incredible gift to those who have taken the time to listen!
my absolute favorite album ..got this album when it came out in 1980 and I just turned 15 ....THE WORLD IS FULL OF KINGS AND QUEENS,THEY BLIND YOU EYES AND STEAL YOUR DREAMS ITS HEAVEN AND HELL.....
Talk about two amazing talents finding each other at the right time. That opening one - two punch of "Neon Knights" and "Children of the Sea" is just massive! Highlighted by the soaring ecstasy of Ronnie's vocals and Tony"s thrilling solos. Pretty tough to beat
This album is so extraordinary, which it feels like a greatest hits or a best of. Masterpiece!

First, FULL, listen, in about 40yrs!.....(1/12/22) .. Played it non-stop when it came out, and, er yeah, still a fine Album. ....... Tony shredding it, and Bill and Geezer, still as tight as a Gnat's Chuff!!........... GAWD BLESS 'EM!!
Black Sabbath was great, but talking about Dio, what a singer, no autotune, no digitalized stuff, just pure talent.
Absolutely!
Takes me back to high school
Good mushroom music .😅
It's a really good album, but he is no ozzy 😢
@@vitocorleone1742 I disagree i do love ozzy very much but dio is another level and he took the band to the next level even if it was only for a short period of time. My opinion both are Mazing artists.

Same here. Same experience in WPB, Fla.
Although I've been listening to metal and rock my whole life, this album started my peronal metal journey! It will forever stay the most special and magic in my soul!

I think the mix on this LP was amazing! You can truly hear everyone at their best!

Thats Martin Birch for you, the guy was an amazing producer.
Yes. Compare this to Born Again (which I love), but the mastering is awful. These two albums are night and day.

All this thing is true, this one is awesome but I prefer the Ozzy period.c( the most )
@@joseantoniocespedesalmendr9095 personally my preference musically and vocally is definitely RJD, he had such a great voice for someone who sounded 10 feet tall.

Wow sorry to hear about someone dying at a young age like that. Remember in your heart and mind forever.. she lives there.

Sorry to hear such a tragedy but Just like this album she will obviously never be forgotten. R.FOREVER.I.P.
A tip of the glass to Jenny. May she watch over us.

Ronnie= majestic...5 ft tall and ten stories of thunder..
Legend!
I miss you buddy.
One of my fav album of all time.
I remember being 15 and listening to "Lady Evil" on repeat, such a groovy and catchy song!
I'm now 33 and still love that album. Dio is a legend!
This album is a masterpiece. Listened to it thousands of times but noticed Geezer’s bass lines are busy. Holy crap! 😳
my older brother bought this album and I was like, "no Ozzy? it must suck!" then he played it. I was enraptured! By "Children of the Sea" I was hooked, by "Wishing Well" I was like "Ozzy who?" Every song a quality piece of pure elemental rare METAL!
That's why Ozzy worked so hard on Blizzard.
Ronnie was Bad Ass . 1 of a kind . I saw him back in the day . 🤘😎
Bad Ass is an understatement. There are no words. however yes he was 1 Fuckin awesome "Bad Ass" Son of a B!tch. I met him back 87 had a backstage pass and was Speechless
