    PLEASE NOTE! : I forgot one of the most important parts of the process in this video! Make sure when you finish creating your template you go to "File -> Save As Template" to save your template!
    Want to download a free template based on the one I created in this video? You can download it here: www.markhimley.com/logictemplate

    I followed every step and my template looks so beautiful now, so excited to tweak my template to fit my sound perfectly! This is exactly what I needed to take my production to the next level, thank you man and bless you Mark!! Would be such a joy to see how you tweak your own drums and percussion, piano, synths etc too!

    This video popped up in my recommendations at the most appropriate time. I have accumulated a few templates, and only last night, whilst working on a project and constantly annoyed at the "flow" disruptions of searching and setting up things, I was finally convinced it was time to set up my grand template. Many Thanks!! Top-notch video and instructions! Subbed!

    I've probably watched a couple dozen logic template vids but this one was the key that opened the routing door for me. So many Logic TH-camrs assume we either really understand routing or think we are just starting out. I'm in the middle. I have tried figure out Spitfire's BBCSO full routing template but could not, but this tutorial shows me partly how they got there. My only question right now is how you cope with muliti timbral or multi instrument tracks to keep the amount of VSTs to a minimum. And if you have conflicting CC issues when writing, say, modulation to more than the host channel instrument. Anyway, thanks for this, Mark, it has really helped in my quest find the best workflow. Next up: 'Groups'.

      @MarkHimley  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for taking the time to comment, I'm glad this video was helpful!
      To be honest, I almost never use multi-timbral/multi-instrument tracks for reasons just like this. I always just do one instrument per track. Sure it takes up more cpu, but as you can see in the video that's not a major issue for me with offloading instruments and such.
      Related to that sort of - I also never really use keyswitch patches, I use one articulation per instrument so I can use negative delay that is appropriate for that articulation. This makes composing orchestral stuff sooo much easier and faster. Almost completely erases any need to ever nudge midi notes around.

    Amazing Video and explaination, thank you so much!! Just one question: how do you preset your different reverb- and delay-buses (e.g. Dual Mono or Stereo-preset..?).

    • @MarkHimley
      @MarkHimley  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the kind words! It's absolutely my pleasure.
      For buses I only ever use Stereo. I can't imagine a reason I would need to use Dual Mono for a bus.
      Typically I've only ever used Dual Mono if I need to correct something in an audio file like one side being louder than the other, one side having harsh high end that the other doesn't, or something similar with mid/side issues. I very rarely use Dual Mono for that though. Usually I rely on plugins that can do similar things, just seems to be a better fit for my workflow.

    A workflow question: What happens when you are working on a project and you determine that a couple of the things you've done in the project need to also be in your template. Do you stop everything you're doing in the project, open the template, add the new things to the template, re-save the template, then carry on with the project?

    • @MarkHimley
      @MarkHimley  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually I just make a note of it and save it for later. I don’t particularly like to stop mid session to go do busy work. I’ll have a dedicated time set aside for template updates and other similar tasks

  • @DarylFloyd1963
    @DarylFloyd1963 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So when I set this all up I notice that all the reverbs and delays are set to Stereo Out. Shouldn't they be directed to Bus 10 to hit the PREMASTER or am I not following this correctly? Thanks
    😊

    • @MarkHimley
      @MarkHimley  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great catch and great question! That is somewhat optional, it just depends on how you want things routed. If you're doing a lot on the Premaster channel (like big volume changes or unique processing) and you want your delays and reverbs to be affected by those same changes, then definitely route them through the Premaster channel. I have done this before for that reason.. I should probably change this in my template because 99% of the time it makes more sense to have those sends routed through the Premaster channel. Thank you for pointing this out!

    Thanks for a great video Mark. I noticed you labelled one of the sends you created as a "Haas" delay. Do you use logics own sample delay plug in to achieve this effect or a commercial plug-in?

    • @MarkHimley
      @MarkHimley  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very cool video. What is your Mac hardware setup... which model are you using, how much RAM, how much internal storage, etc? Lots of libraries loaded for sure, that would kill my old school Mac mini. :)

      Thanks for watching, Paul!
      I'm using a 15-inch 2019 MacBook Pro, running Big Sur 11.6 currently. Processor - 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9. 32 GB RAM 2400 MHz DDR4. I have 2TB of internal storage, and use 6 TB of external storage (all are Solid State Drives with very fast transfer speeds). ALL sample libraries are hosted on the external drives. I definitely had some help getting it figured out, but yes it runs pretty smoothly. I do have some mouse lag from time to time when I have all 5 external drives running (4 1TB drives, 1 2 TB drive), but that's really my only issue. I hardly ever have any CPU issues, although I do lots of freezing of tracks and bouncing in place when needed.

  • @kingivey4672
    @kingivey4672 ปีที่แล้ว

    whenever i create a template with reverbs and aux tracks it creates a delay while recording vocals does this happen to you?

    • @MarkHimley
      @MarkHimley  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean it's causing delay as in same latency or lag? Like what you're hearing or your voice is delayed? If so - that's probably a CPU issue. How much RAM do you have in your computer? One thing you can try, if you're in Logic, is go to the top of the screen and click on "Record", then turn on "Low Latency Mode". This will temporarily disable all CPU draining plugins and hopefully will fix the problem. That might not be ideal for you though if you like to hear reverb and such on your voice as you record.
      Also, if you watch the bit in this video that starts at 16:26, you can add a "Low Latency Mode" button to your control bar. It's on the far right under "Modes and Functions"
      Hope that helps!! Thanks for watching and commenting

      @@kingivey4672 So when you record the vocals are in time, but then when you play it back they are delayed? And nothing else is? That's very strange.. Not sure what would cause that unfortunately. I don't think I've ever heard or seen that problem before

    The big problem is that nowadays newer generations are more concentrated on quantity vs quality.
    As well as esthetics vs quality.
    Imagine modern musicians making music in the 60's and 70's... then everything you heard was unique and different, now everything sounds alike... to much copying and use of prerecorded material (samples)..

    • @MarkHimley
      @MarkHimley  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t disagree with your statement at all, in fact I mostly agree with it. While I packaged this around quantity sort of (make more music in less time), that’s not the only benefit of using a template. That is a huge benefit for media composers and those focused on making high volumes of music for licensing.
      However, a bigger benefit in my opinion, is eliminating the non creative and analytical work. Templates like this allow me to be more creative as I don’t waste time setting up different tracks, my reverbs and delays, etc. it’s just ready for me to make music and stay creating and in the creative flow.
      I’ve gone through phases in my life as we all do, and I am much more now in a phase and season of focusing on quality and actually trying to spend time doing meaningful work. I don’t do much music for licensing at this current time.
      A quote you and others may enjoy… quality beats quantity, but quality quantity beats quality. However, the only way to get to quality is through quantity, that’s the irony.
      Thanks for your comment! I do appreciate it.
