I seen a good tip when changing the oil. If you stick the shop vac hose in the oil cap hole and turn it on. It will create a vacuum in the oil pan so you can take the oil plug bolt out without wearing the oil. It also saves you from scalding yourself on a hot oil change.
Interesting content , great job on maintenance and repairs...you will appreciate the little Cat when finished. Nice to have a crow bar in the same yellow colour scheme 😉 🇦🇺
Great job Randy!!! Nice to see another young guy messing with the older stuff. In it's day, the old girl was state of the art!!! Looking forward to more adventures!
Awesome job making the much needed repairs and servicing and finally getting to enjoy it pushing some dirt..great how to content.. appreciate you sharing your day with us.😊🇺🇸🛠️🔧🚜🌽
The d7 would be the tool to remove the pond sand. Though this one needs worked too. Going in I noticed the 48 dozer and Jiminy crickets I would like to see her do as good as this do. Good work man.
looks like a good outfit, I had a d4 but it had a holt blade on it which meant 1 tip would dig in and less control over the blade. you've got a nice machine! wish I hadnt sold mine but needed a better blade. thanks for the video!
I enjoyed the video. They make some rippers that you can mount on the back of a blade and you could rip that hard sand when you’re backing up, they fold up out-of-the-way when you go forward to push dirt.
Plain to see you know your way around the maintenance end and not too shabby with the operating skills and you’ll only get better as you get more familiar with the machine. Good content keep the videos coming.
Job well done ...I do believe it is part of your future plans to give that d2 track dozer a well deserved high pressure bath and some nice cat yellow paints to bring that old machine to her former glory...that would be interesting to watch ...good luck and keep up the good work.
Great tutorial on CATERPILLAR D2 maintenance and blade repairs! It's fascinating to see the process of pushing dirt and trees with precision. .We would love to connect and collaborate with you🙂.
Randy, new subscriber from Australia, really enjoyed the content of your video, heaps of practical info and application, great video and commentary and the length is good. Love it when these little biddy kitty cats get love and attention so well done and great job on all your repairs mate.
great service, the trees been nice to see some of them used and fence post since some idiot is in the green house killing us on fuel prices and everything follows that with inflation prices. But great video
Pretty good job on that thread repair. Just wondering why you don't replace the old split washers when you reinstall the bolts. I've learned to always replace them, especially when they are already beaten out and flat like the ones you had there. I prefer to have something in there to help retaining the bolts again, especially with all the vibrations you get on a metal track machine.
The diagonal cut has another advantage, when pressing it presses the cut surfaces together, with the straight version the adhesive surface can shear off!!
One thing about the pony rather than the main engine is that normally the pony engine is breathing clean air as compared to the main engine breathing dusty air massively. So the pony having no oil is not a bigger deal than the main engine having no oil. If ya'll neglect the pony such will be neglect of the main engine ruining the engine quickly. Our pickup had an oil bath air filter that was almost full of dirt when I cleaned it when a teenager. My dad had never cleaned it but at least it had a little oil.
I think its original (The Blade) I owned one exactly the same many years ago . The Original owner told me that he bought it new with that fixed blade , it apparently came also with a dam scoop attached behind also original.
Grandpa on the farm, he could spot a piece of trash a mile off. I just figured it out. The white jug laying off to the side. Ugly eyesore on a beautiful farm. 🚜
IDEA...have used aluminum powder rediator stop leak to fix leak in thermostat housing on a couple cars. Lasted the rest of the time i owned the vehicles.....

Your just as good as Diesel creek! In some ways better!
Great, or beyond great to see the revitalization of an otherwise "throw away junker." Runs and sounds fantastic.
Great content. Brought the dozer back to doing useful work. You're a hero!
That little lady is punching way above her weight good show

Great to see someone with excellent mechanical skills fixing a old Cat.

top job mate loving your camera shots right on the job .

What you need, you may already have, a sub-soiler plow.
Plain to see you know your way around the maintenance end and not too shabby with the operating skills and you’ll only get better as you get more familiar with the machine. Good content keep the videos coming.

👍👍👌👌 Thanks for the video!
When are you going to look at the cracked thermostat housing you mentioned earlier great show as usual 🇬🇧🇮🇪.
I hope to get back to it this summer!
The diagonal cut has another advantage, when pressing it presses the cut surfaces together, with the straight version the adhesive surface can shear off!!
Super glue is much harder than rubber. A diag cut adds more super glue, a verry hard spot in a rubber 0 ring seal
“Swedish nut lathe” a fellow fan of our Uncle in Canuckistan!
Good job! You deserve and I hope you get more subscribers. Seems a little small. Wonder what market it was designed for? Probable limit space grading
Thanks! I would assume small contractors and operations. It has a lot of push/pull for it's size!
A cat may have 9 lives but a D2 lives forever.
put a stack on the exhaust! otherwise, great content and you had that mig dialed in! sounded like thick bacon.....
Mighty tool to shove those trees

Sealing ring : You should make a diagonal cut!! This way you get more adhesive surface !!
Makes sense to me, I'll remember that next time. Thanks
Remember super glue is much harder than rubber
Using your mag drill, could you use an oversized drill bit to taper the holes you welded up for the tapered bolts?
If you had one with the correct taper it may work. I'm not sure it would be rigid enough. The weld metal would have to be very uniform.
To remove blade leave hydraulic cylinders on Cat, just pull front pin, no messing with hoses.
Later D2's had longer track frames than the early ones that's why the extra cutout.
CAN YOU PLEASE GET YOURE WALL ART MACHINE GOING,ITS FANTASTIC,YOU WONT HAVE TO SPEND TONS,JUST CLEAN FREE OFF ETC,WOULD MAKE GREAT CONTENT
IDEA...have used aluminum powder rediator stop leak to fix leak in thermostat housing on a couple cars. Lasted the rest of the time i owned the vehicles.....
It'll get pulled off and repaired. Should braze up well.
Did you still have the kerosene in the clutch housings?
I drained the kerosene after I got the steering clutch lose and housing flushed.
Just like a little boy you're gonna new toy and you take it right to the sand box
Time certs are better then helicoil
I agree, and you don't end up with the cross threading problem I ran into.
