Cant believe some people are defending the 'move' from the 430. The 458 was clearly making the pass. This is not f1 or DTM. Its just some obscure series. There is no need to block that way. Even a track day hero will know better. Moronic move
Reggie Glaze Wasn't even a "move". The 430 already had a defensive position in the middle of the track. The attempt to pass by the 458 on the inside of a left hand corner where a car width gap barely existed was an overly aggressive move.
LowFlyin' You clearly dont undertsand races, there was a gap and the 458 could easily pass the useless tard that is the other guy, becose you cant call race driver to some uneskilled guy who doesnt know how to behabe in a track PERIOD.
putoteking Also i forgot to mention that the dirty guy sees that he can be pased in the left rearview mirror just before contact and makes the move that provokes the crash, watch the slowmo.
putoteking Oh, I actually understand racing quite well. Have you actually been behind the wheel in a real race? You sound like an armchair/keyboard racer. Riddle me this. If there was enough of a gap, why was the 458 driving with it's left side tires in the grass BEFORE making contact with the REAR of the 430?
LowFlyin' @0'58", 2'29", the red car has its 4 wheels on the road. And @2'42", you can clearly see the black car going rightwards, "opening" the door for a pass, then violently closes the door leftwards. Black car driver is a dangerous guy playing with lives @160mph. Defending him against all evidence is irrelevant.
Brutal move by the black car. The track bends left before the turn, but you don't treat it like an apex or you'll be too far left for T5. The black car can block, but not after the red car is along side. This is a 'bent straight', not a corner, which means the lead car can't 'claim the line' so if you're going to block you do it before the passing car is beside you. The driver in the black car should be heavily reprimanded.
Wow, that looked completely intentional to me, or just a really late reaction at blocking his passing attempt. There was no reason that I can see for the 430 to make that move to the inside, at that moment, other than a block attempt or intentional rub. The Ferrari, safety equipment and fence saved his life- that deserves a "fuck yeah!"
J King At first blush it does look intentional, but if you look at the in-car video, the guy in the black car has the wheel turned slightly to the right and isn't turning in to the red car. At 150MPH, cars tend to get "floaty", and that segment of track is right about the crest of a hill. It would not surprise me if the car simply drifted to the left a bit.
neilbradley Plausible, I watched that part again over and over. It does not appear the wheel is pointed to the right in the moments right before the drift left, it looks straight and actually he appears to be fighting it a bit. If you look closely, the wheel does actually move slightly left very briefly just before the rub, and at that speed it's enough to veer the car as it did in the video.
Seems to be common. All the big wrecks I've seen at Le Mans involving GTs, Blancpain and even 'gentlemen racers' events like these have involved a Ferrari of some kind.
Not true. Bellof (this is how you write his name) did something very stupid. He tried to overtake Ickx (!!!) in Eau Rouge. And this is something you just DON'T do. In Eau Rouge. NEVER! He should have waited for the straight...
I wonder if checking his mirror subconsciously brought his arms to steer into the lane. I know you can block that tendency out however even when crusing on yh street sometimes I find ill stray a bit after checking a mirror and focusing on the car in sight,
@@seawolf9616 Track closes more than black car goes left , onboard footage !? And red looses downforce , wich results in accident , not so much the contact , me thinks , at 150 mph !?
Stupid move from the 430 driver. Should be penalized quite a lot for this. He jeopardized human lives with a wrong timed and stupid move. He is going to pass you because you didn't defend properly or drive properly. You just let him go there. Then eventually try and pass again later.
If someone already has a nose or wheel on your inside, you hold your line, and try your best to kill their speed exiting the next corner by not letting them go wide off the apex , not steer into them to hit them because you failed and left too much of a gap. This crash was entirely avoidable.
KEVLAR PEREZ here we go again. Fault Red Car. -black car had lead, owned line, had right to apex and was on the traditional leading racing line from T3, through T3A, and into and at T4. -Black car held line and let apex of T4 come to him -red car had NOT earned right to racing room, was not even close to beside black car -burden is on the overtaking car to make a safe pass -red car should have waited and used speed advantage to make a deep pass into the braking zone at T5. Red car got greedy and stuck it;s nose in early where he shouldn;t have and had no right to be. Lesson: patience over red mist wins.
Eric Heinrich HERE WE GO AGAIN: Here you go buddy, this is from the CCR Rulebook for 2015. "E. If a defensive line is used, it must be established well in advance of the approaching car. F. On a straightaway, the overtaken driver shall remain aware of all passing vehicles and shall not attempt to block or impede the progress of passing car(s). USE YOUR MIRRORS." "You can block me once, as long as you make your move early enough that there is essentially zero risk that you punt me or that I have to lift/brake. A second move to block, even if it is a feint, is frowned upon for safety reasons - especially if it is late, abrupt and if the consequences are dire (a trip into the trees or eating the wall at high speed). For obvious reasons, dire consequences are bad. Similarly, high speeds make major damage ($) more likely. Racing is expensive enough already, and I don’t like damage." ALSO, CCR uses the 13/13 Rule, so Steve will not be racing for a good while. Enjoy the 13 month vacation.
Wow I just threw my fist in anger watching the driver in the F430 late blocking on the straightaway at over 150mph. You can clearly see as he looks in the mirror and chops him off the track. That idiot should be banned from racing not totally but a definite ban. I can tell you I'm truly pissed. Could of got someone killed.
SonzillaGTR Same feeling, basically, he cutted him off when he was going faster and he was going to pass. If this is an illegal maneuver in normal roads, why should it not be in pro racing? That asshole should have his license removed and go to jail for murder attempt.
Draw Down bduddy55555 I don't think it was the 430s fault. The 430 had the line and position out of the last corner. Where initial contact happened there is a slight kink, like 5 degrees. The 430 was going straight from the right side of the track (inside line of previous corner) to the left side of the track at the kink. Allowing for the 458, who he most likely would have known was gaining on him via draft, to pass him on the right to have the line into the next corner(a left). The 458 does not seem to have noticed this or the kink and tried to overtake on the left. You can hear his upshift right at 0:50, have 0:48 its earlier so get ready, and pull out of the slip stream and go for it. It then seems like he(the 458) touches the grass slightly at 0:53 and makes a wheel correction that sends his front right into the rear left of the 430. When the 2 wheels hit it shoots the front of the 458 up and since there are no vents above the wheels its more likely to take off. Safety fences worked great tho. The 458 should have tried to pass on that side with the 430 pretty obviously going to continue straight. Assuming he had driven this track before he should know that the left side was closing and the right would open with the racing line. The 458 made many mistakes. The 430 made none. Edit: forgot the 0s in my times to make them links
zomgahhh you make some valid points, with the exception of that the 458 was not merely "drafting", he clearly has plenty of motor on him, and is NOT a rookie, and has driven that track many more times than the 430 driver... the ideal pass there would NOT be on the outside, as it would have pinched him on the exit potentially crashing them both, not to mention that the 458 would need to be inside for turn 5... 430 should have breathed just a bit before the slight kink, and let the 458 by, as this was NOT for position, and the gentleman thing to do would be to just let him by... but the 430 driver was not having it....he darts over at last moment rather than breathing the car. If it were purely defensive, he would have just stayed driver left, thereby showing his hand that he wasn't going to "let" him by. having said that: both drivers are at fault....with the 458 being more at fault, for trusting a less experienced racer to do the right thing..... you can argue that the 430 did nothing wrong all you like.... perhaps he did nothing wrong....but he didn't exactly do the right thing, either. Hill could have prevented that crash much easier. Hill was given room, BOOTH was not when it could have been the best/safest thing to do. cars and driver are safe, that's the most important thing....but it was avoidable...and a stupid, VERY expensive result.
bduddy55555 here we go again. Eric Heinrich Uh black f430 left the line to block the red 458 from trying an inside pass at the corner. He left no room for braking nor any track space either. He should've stayed on the right side of the track, but instead he was so far left the 458 had no room or time at all. He defended far too late
The fact that the driver got out of his car and able to walk normally shows the how well the safety mechanisms worked for a racing-spec car despite how nasty this crash looked from the outside. On another note, that individual who made the cutting off block that lead to the potentially tragic accident...I would hope he got parked from racing for a long time, at the very least!
For those who race and or track their cars.... On long straight aways with a bend/crest you always take the inside line and hug that bend ... If you look at his in car, you can see the car moving towards the inside before he looked in the mirror, when he looked it was already too late.
learoast That's not the line? The line is from roughly a car width from the apex of that bend, diagonally down into 5. The track turns, and you car ends up following the right hand side into the end of the braking zone. The black car was on the line. The red car, with that much speed, should have passed on the outside, where he would not have "pinched off" anything as he presumably would have been far enough in front to make it work. Then again, his braking is poor compared to the black car, as you can see in turn 3. He "should" have stayed tucked in, and popped out as the black car started to brake, and used the few heartbeats of extra speed to establish himself on the inside for a classic over taking. All that aside, what kind of design flaw does that car have to get itself airborne like that over a very minor contact. If you watch the in car from the black car, his wheel barely wiggles. At those speeds, and in the left rear when the car is already loaded to the right, any real contact would have spun him, or at least caused a tank slap, not an "I added another 5mph after the impact".
Scott Sanda guys a dumbass... I've had plenty of time there in my GT2 :) its similar to front straight at VIR where you're hugging the right bend, or back main straight at Monticello again, full throttle coming from outer into the apex/right bend. And you hit the nail on the head... Heading to the inside from where he was sets you up for a straight shot to the braking zone....
Martin C Well this is really easy. Make your video and championship wins accessible. ALL the brilliant dissenters video or championship results are invisible. Why would that be? Show me video.....and the results. Bottom line....you CANT. Results talk....and bullshit walks. I'll either see ur shit......or you are a poser. Ball is in ur court big boy.
I was standing on the other side of the fence spectating when this happened. Looked up just in time to see the bottom of the car coming straight at us, and only had a moment to step back before it hit. Thankfully the catch fence was there, or I might very well not be. Horrible sight to see such a great car destroyed, but most importantly the driver was ok, and nobody was hurt. My best wishes to Jim Booth and his team.
If this was even 50 years ago that guy would be dead, the advances in safety in racing are just astronomical compared to even 50 years ago. Great video and it was awesome to see the driver walk away.
That camera angle where the camera left the car was crazy. I can't believe they recovered the video. The car just exploded in a shower of parts. Amazing.
You can see in the cockpit view at 0:53, the black 430 Ferrari noticed him trying to overtake, and turns into his way once he got up to his left rear wheel. That was a really bad move. Unsportsmanlike in my opinion.
Now that everyone is ok, can someone tell me what kind of camera that was that left the car and kept working. The footage is too good to be from a goprop
Rich Davidson I've had a Go-Pro take a spill at 60-70 and it just tumbled along. Almost got run over by another car too. The case was shot but the camera is good.
For everyone blaming the black car. It wasn’t his fault. The reason it looks like he turned in was because the track turns in at that exact point making it look like he turned when in fact the track moves over. There is a statement online stating that drivers were told not to overtake at that part of the track for this exact reason. It was totally the fault of the red car. There is plenty of information out there about this crash
Lucky that he walked away from that, the catch fence took a lot of energy away from the actual crash, that said hitting a catch fence in a formula car the driver is more likely to sustain neck and head injuries.
Anyone defending the driver of the black F430 has no idea. 0:50 - The gap is there, the pass is there to be made... until at 0:54 when the F430 driver checks his mirror and PURPOSELY closes the gap. If he didn’t see the F458 coming beforehand and the gap was naturally closed by the limits of the track then fair enough, but it wasn’t, it was closed intentionally by the driver. Knowingly blocking a car which is moving so much quicker than yours and leaving them no way to escape the move is completely unprofessional and careless. At this speed, and with the track bending towards the right before the left hand turn at the end, the driver of the black F430 should have dropped the central defensive line and moved towards the standard racing line on the right hand side of the track... the F458 clearly had the run and was mph’s faster than the F430... you do not have the right to hold a central and defensive line when your car is as visibly as slow as the black F430 was here. If you still disagree, please explain to me why, when at the end of the straight when there is a LEFT hand turn, why did the F430 driver move towards the LEFT and not the RIGHT?
no he didnt. If you look at 50 seconds in you can just about see that the track narrows and curves at the same time, meaning it looks like the guy cuts across but actually the red ferrari is, in a way, moving across while the black car is taking the corner normally. The driver of the black car never turns his wheel hard across, and the only reason it looks like he does from the outside is that the two cars are both following the edge of the track, but the two edges actually converge as the track narrows. The driver of the red ferrari released a statement back when this happened saying the black car was not at fault and its an artefact of the way the track was built (and it was fixed by the track owners).
These comments are amazing to me. Everyone thinks they’re an expert, but so few actually know what they’re talking about. If you’ve ever driven Road America, you would know that the red 458 was in the wrong position here. The black 430 is actually holding the inside line here - he knows the kink is coming, and is appropriately positioned to straight-line it and end up on the inside line going into the corner; if he was further left before it, he would have had to swerve right to avoid the grass, only to immediately turn back left while going over the crest to the downhill, which hugely unsettles the car under braking. The red 458 wanted the inside, but it wasn’t there for him - and he should have known that, given the upcoming kink. All the 430 does is hold his line, and the 458 tries to force the issue and make him move, but the 430 isn’t obligated to deviate from the line he’s been on since starting down the straight. At the end of the day, both parties could have avoided this, but the 458 is more at fault for making an ill-advised move. Sure, the 430 could have gone out of his way to avoid him, but that doesn’t mean that the 458 shouldn’t have been there in the first place. This kink catches many drivers unaware - you don’t practice anywhere near it when you’re setting laps on your own. You’re usually only paying attention to getting to the right side for the braking zone, so when you’re suddenly trying to overtake someone there, the track narrows up a lot faster than people anticipate. The 458 clearly didn’t realize the track would narrow to that extent - or he did, and wanted to force his way into a space that barely existed to make the 430 take the outside. If that’s the case, that’s a pretty reckless move. At the end of the day, I’m just really happy that both parties walked away unscathed.
I think that your are mostly correct. The 430 driver was using most of the track properly, but should have known that the 458 was much faster on the straight (he was right behind him on T3 exit). Why he wasn't aware that the 458 would be right on him is pretty ignorant. If he had looked in his mirrors, he could and should have made room for safety's sake, you simply don't need all the track there. That being said though, the 458 driver was ultimately more wrong. It is obvious that the 430 is going take all the track, you can see the door closing from way back. Stuffing it in there while flat was just stupid especially when the 430 (with more aero) can out brake him easily into T5. Glad no one was hurt in this tale of two guys with more money than sense.
Jim booths (red car) team members didnt blame the hill (black car)for the incident saying: "We used 4 clips and three of the four told completely different stories. Jim's nose cam makes it look like Hill moved over on him, but the video from the following car and Hill's in car does not support that. Clearly the left edge of the track moves to the right in relation to the conventional line that Hill was driving and JIm pushed into it as it was closing up at the narrowest point". Its amazing how many fans make up their decisions without knowing the full story.
at 2:42 of this clip it does look like the red 458 turns into the black 430. In car footage shows the 430 driving basically straight and not moving to cut off the 458. From the 458 in car camera it appears to be the black 458 cutting him off, but I think that is an illusion. I think the 458 runs out of track for his move and neither really sees it coming at those speeds.
Amazing how many viewers instantly blame the driver of the black car without any knowledge of the circuit, the rules and the visibility from within the cars. After the accident the driver of the black car was found not to be guilty. Mind you, by people who actually do know about these things.
The crash might look extremely deadly, but there was never a hard impact with high G-forces, so it's not a big surprise he managed to walk away from this, with the protection of the chasis, rollrage and crumple zones.
The driver of the black car should be banned for doing that move. It was not what you call "good sports". The car behind him didn't draft, he clearly got more power and could out-run him, but he blocked his way really rude.
Glad the 458 driver was safe and not injured. From the driver camera view of the 430, kinda looks like he intentionally did. He must have been annoyed that the 458 was on his tail, so he took a quick glance at the driver rear view (3:00) and lightly tapped him. Going 150 mph is no joke and will be deadly.
Yea I was at the race sitting on the hill above turn 5 waiting for these two Ferraris to run side by side as they had in turn 14 heading up the hill. It was pretty shocking to see nothing but red Ferrari parts flying everywhere. Thinking he had nosed into the wall was quickly changed when over 150 feet of catch fence was torn down. Never like to see anything like this. I was at New Hampshire watching Kenny Irwin's car on it's side all the way through turns 3 and 4 knowing it wasn't good. Kenny didn't walk away but I was sure glad to see Jim Booth walk away. He was the fast car in the race the day before and for Gentlemen drivers to take this kind of hit just shows the cars are very professional !
They give a shout out to Ferrari for the safety systems in the car but the driver's side door flew open near the very beginning of the incident, leaving the driver dangerously unprotected.
Some of the negative commenters on here should rewatch the video in slow motion from about 2:58 onwards. No change in steering inputs inside the lead car from before the accident until it happened - explain that! The movement seen from outside that looks like a blocking move is the effect of the initial push from behind .... then it all goes pear shaped. Whose fault now then?
IMPORTANT, Black Car: (1.) Video at 53:00, Time 0:35:43, Fotogramm by Fotogramm it shows G-Force Instrument "01 & 01" to the LEFT on 5th Gear at 141 Mph and 8,415 RPM, (2.) Time 0:35:51, G-Force Instrument "02 & 01" to the Left, Neutral Gear at 143 Mph & 8,303 RPM, (3.) Time 0:35:68, G-Force Instrument "03 & 00" to the Left on Neutral Gear at 143 Mph and 7,686 RPM, (4.) Time 0:35:89, G-Force "02 & 01" to the Center on 6th Gear at 144 Mph and 6,923 RPM (5.) Time 0:36:05, G-Force Instrument "00 & 01" to the Right , 6th Gear at 144 Mph and 6,939 RPM, etc. etc.. We need more cabin camera video of Black Ferrari before the impact. Was that murder attempt at over 140 MPH????!!!
Saw the same thing happen to a Vintage McClaren Cam-Am car several years ago. The McClaren was making a pass on the left in the same location, the other driver straignt line the jog in the same spot. The Mcclaren got a wheel in the grass and v-lined into the wall on the left. I don't believe it was intentional. From my view of this accident I can say was no accident, but intentional.
i just dont know anymore. if someone told me that last shot was from a video game i would have believed them. almost looked too sharp and good. Amazing the quality of cameras now a days.
amorag59 Thats the same shot as the one im talking about except it starts halfway though. its insane the frame rate of the camera used to catch it. no blur and you can see every single detail through the entire sequence.
Isnt the 458 caged? Hard to tell if the 430 did it on purpose. It does appear that he glances left and slightly jerks the wheel left right before impact but it also looks like the 458 was assuming the 430 would move over or take a wider line
***** They're all caged cars. And the 430 was blocking him but also taking the long left turn so of course, he steered left a little but wasn't intentional at all. The 458, of course, was driving very aggressive to win but he tried to fit into a space he knew was a very tight space.
***** 3:00 will help you make your judgement. Just watch the head movement and steering input from the 430. Little input of steering is enough to move a car to the side.
I don't get it. The external cam shows the black car veering left, causing the collision. However the cockpit cam shows him holding the wheel straight. Perhaps it's simply an illusion of the road geometry, in which case I would recant my previous allegation of fault of the black car. Or, it could be that the steering around center is extremely sensitive such that we cannot see the minute amount of steering lock needed to close the gap, making it difficult to tell whether it was intentional or simply the road bumps causing the car to change line slightly. Or perhaps a combination of both? In either case, further evidence is needed to determine fault.
+sonic_blue Upon further scrutiny of 2:58 - 3:04 I can see an ever so slight turn of the steering lock to the left just before the impact. I missed it at full speed, but at 0.5 and 0.25 speed it is visible. I don't know if it would hold up in court "beyond reasonable doubt" because even in a straight line the wheel is twitching around minutely. The driver could claim that he wasn't trying to intentionally move to the left and that the twitchy steering makes it hard to hold in a straight line at that speed, or that the car naturally moves around +/- half a car width due to its sensitive steering and high speed aero buffeting etc.
If by "a great battle" you mean "attempted homicide", then sure. You can see the driver look in his mirror and then move his hands in response. Absolutely intentional. As a racer, if I were in the #13, the first thing I would do when I got out of medical is go put the driver of #33 in the hospital. That driver should never be allowed on another racetrack again.

Gom Bart Correct.
Isn't a "bent straight" called a kink?
AtomicButtocks Technically it's turn 4. There is an actual turn called "the kink" on the back stretch which is one of the fastest corners in the world
its a race, you treat every bend "turn" as an apex
Exactly. Spot on with all points Jog B

neilbradley Yes, but he's hogging the middle of the track making a situation like this likely to happen. There was no reason for that.
Agreed.
You've got a good point, J King. What isn't clear from the video is if the wiggle of the wheel is a result of the crash or if it preceded it.
An analysis of the shunt confirms that the black F430 was being piloted by an idiot.
JC Webb Was the idiot penalized?
+DeracodaChesseGaming If he's prone to tensing up, I suggest he find a slower class to race in.
Seems to be common. All the big wrecks I've seen at Le Mans involving GTs, Blancpain and even 'gentlemen racers' events like these have involved a Ferrari of some kind.
you spelt asshole wrong.. Hill's cockpit cam shows he used his mirrors..
Seawolf The F430 driver CLOSED the gap when he saw the F458 coming. If he didn’t see the car coming, it would be as you say.
Props to the safety engineers and Ferrari, good day when a life is saved.
it's called "space to survive". it killed Bellhof because he wasn't granted the space. black ferrari driver hopefully got a lifetime ban in racing!
Yeah #33 was a total dick

excellent comment
At 36 secs ish on the in car dash, 430 driver checked his mirror. He saw him coming and still closed the line. Just my opinion
I wonder if checking his mirror subconsciously brought his arms to steer into the lane. I know you can block that tendency out however even when crusing on yh street sometimes I find ill stray a bit after checking a mirror and focusing on the car in sight,

The guy in the black car in front that deliberately cut off the red car was very unprofessional.
KEVLAR PEREZ here we go again.
Fault Red Car.
-black
car had lead, owned line, had right to apex and was on the traditional
leading racing line from T3, through T3A, and into and at T4.
-Black car held line and let apex of T4 come to him
-red car had NOT earned right to racing room, was not even close to beside black car
-burden is on the overtaking car to make a safe pass
-red car should have waited and used speed advantage to make a deep pass into the braking zone at T5.
Red car got greedy and stuck it;s nose in early where he shouldn;t have and had no right to be.
Lesson: patience over red mist wins.
Eric Heinrich HERE WE GO AGAIN:
Here you go buddy, this is from the CCR Rulebook for 2015.
"E. If a defensive line is used, it must be established well
in advance of the approaching car.
F. On a straightaway, the overtaken driver shall remain
aware of all passing vehicles and shall not attempt to
block or impede the progress of passing car(s). USE
YOUR MIRRORS."
"You can block me once, as long as you make your move early enough that there is essentially zero risk that you punt me or that I have to lift/brake.
Racing is expensive enough already, and I don’t like damage."
ALSO, CCR uses the 13/13 Rule, so Steve will not be racing for a good while. Enjoy the 13 month vacation.
Rrad all the rules. Burden on the overtaking driver to complete a safe pass, if he cannot, he Must e prepared to,vack out.
Next.
What fool goes 200kmh on a public road? You have no valud argument position.
Why would you attempt a pass there? Little to no chance of success. Have you made successful high speed passes there?
Wow I just threw my fist in anger watching the driver in the F430 late blocking on the straightaway at over 150mph. You can clearly see as he looks in the mirror and chops him off the track. That idiot should be banned from racing not totally but a definite ban. I can tell you I'm truly pissed. Could of got someone killed.
SonzillaGTR Same feeling, basically, he cutted him off when he was going faster and he was going to pass. If this is an illegal maneuver in normal roads, why should it not be in pro racing? That asshole should have his license removed and go to jail for murder attempt.
***** well I don't think you actually ment to try and kill the 458 driver...please don't hate
Darnell Matthew
what?
I meant I don't think he meant to murder the 458 driver
Darnell Matthew
I think he did, he knew he had no room and that an accident would be impossible to avoid at that moment.
He should have used traction control in the forza Motorsport menu
430 driver needs his license revoked. I mean his driver's license, not just his racing license.
bduddy55555 he needs more than that.....he should never be allowed near anything motorized. He owes the 458 driver a new car for starters.

What is the penalty for black Ferrari driver?
I think he should give away his car to the red one owner.
death penalty
PERMA BAN FROM RACING
Shit fuck
I can't believe that no one has said this yet, but amazing props to the awareness and braking reaction time to the driver of the blue car.
And look at that wheel. It's like "Fuck Accident, I'm the fastest Kangaroo in the world"
The fact that the driver got out of his car and able to walk normally shows the how well the safety mechanisms worked for a racing-spec car despite how nasty this crash looked from the outside.
Martin C
You clearly have ZERO time at Road America. That's not the line.
learoast
That's not the line?
Scott Sanda show me ur video and documented wins
I was standing on the other side of the fence spectating when this happened. Looked up just in time to see the bottom of the car coming straight at us, and only had a moment to step back before it hit. Thankfully the catch fence was there, or I might very well not be. Horrible sight to see such a great car destroyed, but most importantly the driver was ok, and nobody was hurt. My best wishes to Jim Booth and his team.
Holy sh*t! It hurts even to watch this horrific crash.
Blatant blocking is what that was!! The black car totally moved over on the red one.
Now that everyone is ok, can someone tell me what kind of camera that was that left the car and kept working. The footage is too good to be from a goprop
Rich Davidson
GoPro Hero 4
How do you know? Or is this a guess?
Rich Davidson I think the one editing the video would know...
Rich Davidson
I personally put it on the car.
There is plenty of information out there about this crash
nice to see someone commenting with their brain for once on this video...
Saw this happen in person. Very scary to see a flying Ferrari 458.
2:25 ladies and gentlemen we are taking off
That camera is godlike FOR NOT falling off or getting destroyed...
As Fernando Alonso says. "You have to leave a space. All the time you have to leave a space"
Lucky that he walked away from that, the catch fence took a lot of energy away from the actual crash, that said hitting a catch fence in a formula car the driver is more likely to sustain neck and head injuries.
Anybody knows the flight number? I want to check it on air crash investigation on national geographic?
That's always my favorite corner to sit at. They come flying down the hill and then there's a sharp turn going up the hill.
Well, that was god damn horrifying....
Please put your trays into the upright position and ensure your seatbelts are fastened securely.......
I love how nothing survived except the camera
The driver survived aswell.
OK, I'll be "that" guy. This should be a GoPro commercial 😁
They're the only people I know that can take something so beautiful and fuck it all up !
what happened to the tire that kept going and going....down the track?
Was there on saturday and got to see that beautiful fast ferrari race, its a shame to see it totally destroyed :(
In my opinion, that was a dirty cut.He could be dead.
Wow thats some awesome energy absobsion going on there..look how stable the cockpit stays..
A racing game with these crash physics would be my dream.
What a crazy accident at high speed!
It is by far not guaranteed that you survive such a crash without being harmed.
1:20 The pit crew is like: “Let’s take a little pit stop, and get you back out there”.
at 2:42 of this clip it does look like the red 458 turns into the black 430.
Wow, send a case of beer to the guys who built that roll cage!
Those cameras take a beating , great footage ! Wow. 🏎💨💨💨
Dammmm... one hell of a ride..
I feel like that every time I eat a MC Donald's
Very clear cut and easy to determine after viewing the footage. The black 430 moved over and caused he contact. The blame solely rests there.
I feel wrong liking this. I don't like it!! But I do... Thank goodness for well built racecars!
The crash might look extremely deadly, but there was never a hard impact with high G-forces, so it's not a big surprise he managed to walk away from this, with the protection of the chasis, rollrage and crumple zones.
Where did the front camera fly?
The driver of the black car should be banned for doing that move.
It was not what you call "good sports".
The car behind him didn't draft, he clearly got more power and could out-run him, but he blocked his way really rude.
that's ramming in my block.
Not just disqualification BUT life time ban
i didn't think that could happen with a car that (relatively) heavy at only like 150mph, really crazy!
Rear/middle mounted engine cars are prone to front lift. And 150 mph is enough for air to get such cars messed up
was the motor ok?
*The F430 driver was jealous that he was given older model. So......*
Good thing no one was injured but. ... the whole time I was watching I kept thinking. " wow this is great footage " 😕 lol.
I wonder what the bill from the garage will be.
You know it's America when there's McDonalds on a car.
Garage meet sale.
That must have been one hell of a ride.
Totally the fault of the lead car...looked in mirror and then tried to block.
2:28 who builds that camera, I want to invest in that company.
Oh shit I didn't even think about the spectators. That must've been terrifying.
If that was me in the crashed car id probably never race again :/ I dont think I could recover kentally from that one
I'll tell you one thing, if that would have been me Steve Hill wouldn't have walked away that day..
Ok big man
quick reminder:
When you buy a Ferrari, you also get a plane.
Can you please provide some more detail on the race? What positions are we looking at? How many laps in? Thanks! (PS: great footage!)
At least the wheel will cross the finish line...On a lighter note. Looks like McDonalds is losing some weight
The wing on 458 cuts off and thats when the car is air borne and crashes badles. High speed and aero damage caused the impact to be even more harsh.
What was the final verdict?
i just dont know anymore. if someone told me that last shot was from a video game i would have believed them. almost looked too sharp and good. Amazing the quality of cameras now a days.
Dallin Carpenter Did you see at 1:14? My graphics card would have overheated and exploded.
amorag59 Thats the same shot as the one im talking about except it starts halfway though. its insane the frame rate of the camera used to catch it. no blur and you can see every single detail through the entire sequence.
That is one hell of a camera
What is in the front of that Ferrari? You can see liquid spurting out, and a whole bunch of tubes? Isn't the engine in the back?
Wow, that looked completely intentional to me, or just a really late reaction at blocking his passing attempt. There was no reason that I can see for the 430 to make that move to the inside, at that moment, other than a block attempt or intentional rub. The Ferrari, safety equipment and fence saved his life- that deserves a "fuck yeah!"
Viewer discretion advised? It's a car crash. And the driver got up and walked away from it...
he actually had two concussions from this and still recovering from the accident.
Intentional or not, both are as bad. One is a dick move, other is completely lacking awareness to be racing with other people around.
wel one thing's for sure...that brand of camera is good......
Congratulations to the constructors of the Catch Fence.
the safety of these cars are amazing, he walked away like he gotta change his pants, swiftly yet.. neatly.
+sonic_blue
Upon further scrutiny of 2:58 - 3:04 I can see an ever so slight turn of the steering lock to the left just before the impact.
"Flat bottom cars you make the rockin world go round...."
and the tires ?
If by "a great battle" you mean "attempted homicide", then sure. You can see the driver look in his mirror and then move his hands in response. Absolutely intentional. As a racer, if I were in the #13, the first thing I would do when I got out of medical is go put the driver of #33 in the hospital. That driver should never be allowed on another racetrack again.
I don't like McDonalds either, but THAT was un-called for.
Would a rear wing prevent this airborne flight?
F430's still looking good
Perhaps this incident inspired Rosberg's move at this year's Spanish Grand Prix.
Steve Hill in car No.33 is a bastard !! He could have caused the life of Jim. No sportsmanship !!
