Hello, excellent review thanks for your time and the precision of your presentation. Quick request : If you have to make the choice between the new BMW F900XR and this Tiger GT Pro, what is your choice ? Best regards from Switzerland.
Tough to answer as both are good bikes. I only rode the F900XR for about an hour so I would definitely need more time on that before making a choice. I would say the BMW is more sports touring whereas the Triumph would be better adventure/long distance touring with a bigger tank and more room for rider/pillion. Pricewise the BMW seems cheaper at around £9,800 as stock until you start adding all the bits that the GT Pro already has. Once you add everything, the BMW gets to around £12,000. The Triumph GT Pro at this point is only an extra £800 with all the bells and whistles. I think it comes down to what sort of bike you want. The BMW to me feels much more sports touring focused than the Triumph but the Triumph is also way sportier than you would ever imagine from looking at it. I honestly don't know which I would choose right now as I like both!
Nice detailed review and I can vouch just how good this 900 is, I've had my Rally Pro since 11.3.20 and its a huge upgrade over the 1200 Explorer I traded in on it. I'm in total agreement with everything you said about the 900. Fabulous bike indeed
Thanks for your opinion, and I'm in fact just now considering a 2015 1200 Explorer or the new 900 Rally Pro. Looks like I'm going for the new 900. Looks great.
Spad562 as an owner can you tell me how the rally pro is top end on the motorway? I've heard reports it's a bit vibey through the bars, in your opinion what would it be like sat on it all day eg long trips?
Message to Triumph : “Triumph please offer us the Tiger 900 GT with tubeless spoked wheels; then a lot of riders (like me) would really be very interested in buying one. Why: Because a lot of riders prefer 19 inches front wheel to have more fun in twisty roads, because we prefer tubeless spoked wheels & because the Rally model is a little bit to tall for shorter riders. Best regards.”
EnglishBikerDan : thanks for reply, but Tiger 900 are already expensive bikes; it would be very expensive to buy 2 new spoked tubeless wheels as accessories; what would be nice is a cheap swap of wheels for the GT as a kind of cheap affordable option.
I was a bit torn between what I preferred in terms of the GT or the Rally. The GT is a very easy confident bike, to be fair the difference with the 21inch front of a rally made you work a little harder, but to be fair I may have given me a bit of a bigger smile!
Just like the older 800xr the cast wheel version makes very little sence. On the used market you cant give them away. Plus you get more groung clearance (corner angle) on the rally.
Far more enthusiastic about this new Tiger than the 900XR I note. I will test ride both once global (!) circumstances improve - but for me the Triumph would be handier simply because the dealer's far closer.
It's an unfair comparison really as I was on the BMW on a lunch break and for less than an hour. I had the Tiger for about 4 hours on a day off. I actually like both bikes and would struggle to choose between them. I need to get on the 900XR again and for longer. Hoping to do that once I lockdown is lifted. 👍

Good review most have been on the rally pro. Have had test ride on rally pro and gt pro before lock down, waiting to be able to test ride Bmw f900xr.the tiger 900 seems a little bit bigger bike with more room for passenger . yes that engine is spot on more feel and character .and it pulls really well. needed more then 2 hours for test.
When can we get the ultimate review and comparison between he BMW F900 XR, Ducati Multistrada 950 and Triumph Tiger 900? Mainly for commuting and touring.
Given the update to the engine, did you think the vibrations were excessive? Most reviews I have seen seem to take the view that it is, on balance, still a pretty smooth ride. Would appreciate your perspective on that.
I couldn't get on with it. Coming from a Street Triple I felt the T-Plane crank lumpy and buzzy. Can't see the point in Triumph going down this route when the Triple is meant to offer the best of both worlds. They should have used a detuned Speed Triple engine like the old Tiger 1050 sport. Unless you are riding the Rally version I can't see the point of going off road on what is a "Road" focused bike so the T-Plane just seems daft.
Another excellent and concise review. One thing I would like to hear in all bike reviews,[nobody seems to do it] is what tyres are fitted, and how they seem to perform in all weather conditions.

Brill video, I test drove a GT pro recently and loved it, I'm going to park ex my 800 XRt for one. What camera do you use on the bike handlebars if you don't mind me asking?
Great review, thanks for sharing. There are some oddities I can't really understand. Why do they make this big TFT dash and waste the space for this useless double rev animation ? And why do they go to this single-eyed double headlight ? Looks ugly to me and can't be compensated by the obviously great engine. So I'd rather go for the Africa Twin.
You are getting confused over what preload is for. It is not there to make the rear shock “stiff” or otherwise. It is to set where the shock sits in its stroke under different loads for optimum travel, both ways. If you want to “stiffen” the bike add more damping front and rear.
Thanks for the review Dan, just wondering how tall you are? I am thinking about a GT Pro, I am 6'6" so bikes generally are a problem, although European bikes are better than Japanese. Is this a good bike for taller people and do you have any other recommendations as far as good rides for taller people in the adventure/tourer style. Cheers Peter
I'm only 5'8". You can adjust the seat height of these plus the Rally Pro model is much taller. Other tall bikes? KTM Adventure R, BMW GS, Africa Twin etc. All good options! 👍
Hi Dan can I ask your honest advice please as I know you have riden a lot of bikes including the MT07. I am looking to move up from my Tracer 7 with the same CP2 engine. The reason i want to upgrade is that i often go out with my brother on his Africa Twin and although my Tracer 7 keeps up fine in town and on twisties we often go on long roads and carriageways and then the Tracer 7 struggles to keep up the the AT. I am currently considering Tiger 900 GT Pro, BMW 900 XR, Tracer 900 GT. Can you tell me what you think of these bike and how they compare in performance, comfort, handling etc. I am wanting to have more umph than my tracer 7 and need it to be comfy but also a little fun. Can i ask your honest opinion on my options and also how does this Tiger and my other options compare in performance to the likes of the MT07 and CB650R and will i feel a noticeable difference in power and keep up with the likes of the Africa Twin? Any feedback would be appreciated. 👍👍👍
The ugly duckling turned into a swan, so I’m getting one for two up light touring. The luggage makes it a very practical bike. Not the best bike on the street but perhaps the most practical if I’m to keep just one bike.
I believe production was moved to Thailand, where my 2014 Tiger 1200 Explorer was made. The build quality was fantastic, however, the quality of materials in some areas was disappointing. Within 3 years and 20,000 miles, the exhaust headers had corroded right through, costing nearly £1000 to replace as they could not be welded. The rear shock also collapsed at 40k which I guess isn't too bad, expecially as most of my riding was commuting into London. That said, it was an utterly fantastic bike and I wouldn't let the relocation of production put you off.
EnglishBikerDan Lowering the height of the engine will make it a lot less top heavy.the changes in the handle bar clusters will make the bikes features a lot easier to operate. The 20 litre tank, effective screen, comfy seat should make it a very good commuter, weekend warrior and all purpose tourer.
@@Englishbikerdan Just looked it up, and that Oxford Delta 1.0 jacket is a very good price. How do you find it? Also, is their sizing accurate? Love the look of the Tiger 900 and the prices seem pretty good. How does it compare to the opposition? Not sure if you've ridden any of those, yet.
The issues with the Tiger 900 GT (Pro) is wheel size and engine. A road bike that will never see offroad use don't need that T crank. It adds vibration and makes is less smooth. Add to the extremely limited tire choices and i'd rather get the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT. I tested both, one after the other and the Tracer is a better road bike. More sporty, better for long rides (although not as comfortable as the Tiger to ride) and more fun factor. If triumph made the GT (Pro) a 120/60-17 front and 160/55-17 or 180/50-17 rear, i would have bought one when i was looking at new bikes in May.
All this adventure bikes seems some big for daily use. I'm not a short skinny guy but for example, i feel perfectly fine with my sv650 but in a vstrom 650 i feel i'm riding a truck. Even nc750x feels a little weird...ok maybe i only like them nakex is true...
Nice review though 20L of fuel, oil and other fluids will likely add closer to 30kg to the claimed dry weight. Obs not your fault but why do Triumph not publish the wet weights of their bikes like everyone else. They don't quote the payloads either which for a bike that's aimed at touring is disappointing.
@@Englishbikerdan KTM are even worse dry weight ready to race really confused a lot of people. Seems it just meant dry weight. But some people though it was just add fuel.
I'm not quite sure why there are so many throttle modes, I get rain, but the distinction between road and sport is a bit pointless imo, sport just feels like a cable throttle to me, unless you're riding super bumpy slow speed roads, where road mode might make sense, I'd be inclined to stick it in sport and leave it there, just use your wrist judiciously.....
Why not 1500cc 200hp??! This are not meant to be sport track days bikes. Honestly, i doubt this bike usual riders even use 80hp during 99% of their ridings. Any bike with 40-50hp is more than enough for any rider if we dont expect 200kmh on motorways.
@@farmoboy83 40-50hp is not enough to overtake something. And i was actually quoting figures from the Tiger 950 the old one just to show how far a 2020 bike has come
Mmmm 🙄 everyone says the same thing more torque but more vibration that's not good at all ....hope the new Tiger 1200/1300 isn't like the smaller sister 😕
Tried one before the lockdown. Didn’t like it much and my partner didn’t like being a pillion on it. I think a triple should remain a smooth triple and a twin should remain a twin. Not really an innovation. It’s a lot of money, by the time you’ve bought luggage etc. It’s just another ugly duckling.
you can not compare verseys 650 has nice has it is to the tiger 900 . i have a versys 1000 . thing tiger may be a bit smaller .than my vereys 1000 but performace is not far behind. a lot lighter too.
@@paulneedham3608 I just mean on a price point. In most peoples minds the versys 650 price now over £7k soon too be £8k before long. That's what most people would expect to pay for 1000cc bike. How bad are the vibes on the handlebars at 4-5000+ rpm range?
Didn't notice any tbh.
I hear it's not as smooth as the old 800. Someone said they had to take a break after an hour because of the vibrations. This true?
Not as smooth no, but I haven't had any issues riding these for hours at a time.
Also how does it hold up to the new Africa Twin do you think?
I'll have to ride the AT before I can say. Seems to be good though from other reviews.
You are getting confused over what preload is for. It is not there to make the rear shock “stiff” or otherwise. It is to set where the shock sits in its stroke under different loads for optimum travel, both ways. If you want to “stiffen” the bike add more damping front and rear.
Absolutely, I've since understood what it actually does. Although to a simple person like me, twiddling the preload makes it feel stiffer. Ooer!
@@Englishbikerdan good stiff, er I mean good stuff!
Mona Hazell Africa Twin with peg lowering and taller seat is extremely roomy or GS with same - I’ve tried them all.
Any Thoughts 🤔
The ugly duckling turned into a swan, so I’m getting one for two up light touring. The luggage makes it a very practical bike. Not the best bike on the street but perhaps the most practical if I’m to keep just one bike.
Whats your thoughts on Triumph moving production to China/India (Can't remember which one it was)
My gut feeling is I'd be a little concerned with QA issues but I think that's probably based on unfounded fears.
@@jordan436 Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Nice review; thanks; shake hands in lockdown 😳; it must be before lockdown 😎
We have a winner! 😎
How tall are you? How effective was the screen?
I'm 5'8", the screen was so good I never thought about it once! That does of course depend on your height.
EnglishBikerDan Lowering the height of the engine will make it a lot less top heavy.the changes in the handle bar clusters will make the bikes features a lot easier to operate. The 20 litre tank, effective screen, comfy seat should make it a very good commuter, weekend warrior and all purpose tourer.
can’t we see google map on dash board ? I thought mobile can be connected and displayed
Probably. 🤔
Bro, isn't the lockdown period followed in your country????
Sigh. This was before lockdown.
GPS speed and speedo speed - how much is the difference?
Usually around 10% difference.
EnglishBikerDan Ha-ha, I meant on this particular bike/model....?
@@KurtGAndersen Not something I test on a first ride or test ride tbh. If I get this bike on a longer term basis I'll check.
Awesome bike my dreams bike tiger 900 your ride wowww enjoy😍😍
What model Shark?
D-Skwal.
What is the jacket that your wearing??🧥
Oxford Delta 1.0 jacket 👍
Watch this space, can't say more just yet.

I'm the Tiger King! 😂👑
I love the bike and new version is upgraded over the earlier. But the real competition would come from new Honda Africa Twin.
Can't wait to try the new AT.
Kind of gear obsessed.
What’s your jacket?
Oxford Delta 1.0. 👍
I can't wait untill next year to tedt drive the 900gt pro ( i like it in red) 🌹🌹 greetings 🏍️💃🏍️
I hope i can riding with this motorcycle
Loved it I want to try this bike now 😁 can the seat be lowered 🤔 maybe a bit too tall for me tho 😩
Hi Jane, the seat lowers down but you can also get a lowering kit installed by the dealer to lower it even further. 👍
EnglishBikerDan Thanks for your reply 😁
All this adventure bikes seems some big for daily use. I'm not a short skinny guy but for example, i feel perfectly fine with my sv650 but in a vstrom 650 i feel i'm riding a truck. Even nc750x feels a little weird...ok maybe i only like them nakex is true...
its the best bike ever!!!
This or the bmw s1000xr?
Tough one! Very different bikes tbh.
@@Englishbikerdan
LoL
Make it even hard for me.
🤦♂️
Nice review though 20L of fuel, oil and other fluids will likely add closer to 30kg to the claimed dry weight. Obs not your fault but why do Triumph not publish the wet weights of their bikes like everyone else. They don't quote the payloads either which for a bike that's aimed at touring is disappointing.
Yeah I just had a wild guess really. Wet weight would be much more helpful! KTM also publish dry weight.
@@Englishbikerdan KTM are even worse dry weight ready to race really confused a lot of people. Seems it just meant dry weight. But some people though it was just add fuel.
Thanks.
I quite like the difference between Sport and Road. For me, Road was good for chilled riding or commuting and Sport was good for more spirited riding.
Next refresh make it 950cc and 104hp. And 94nm torque
And i was actually quoting figures from the Tiger 950 the old one just to show how far a 2020 bike has come
Can you buy me one please!
roads must of been clear for you considering covid 19 lock down
This was before all that. Look how busy it was.
210-215kg that's very hopeful i would expect close to around 230kg
Chris Hart another reviewer weighed it, 485 pounds wet.
Mmmm 🙄 everyone says the same thing more torque but more vibration that's not good at all ....hope the new Tiger 1200/1300 isn't like the smaller sister 😕
Yep, inherent nature of the new firing order.
all its competitors are 100 - 115 HP . Yamaha Tracer 900 GT , Ducati 950 - 950S
Don't forget about the new Africa Twin.
Also KTM 1090 adv 125bhp.
It could sound better.
Aftermarket can. 😁
your audio is poor..upgrade it..
I actually think it's pretty decent considering I'm riding a bike. But by all means please pass on on any expert tips you have. 👍
Exactly the same models; just different names. 900 Rally Pro = 800 XCa, 900 Rally = 800 XCx, 900 GT Pro = 800 XRt, 900 GT = 800 XRx, 900 GT Low = 800 XRx Low, 900 = 800 XR.
Nice and stiff at the rear😐

Tried one before the lockdown. Didn’t like it much and my partner didn’t like being a pillion on it. I think a triple should remain a smooth triple and a twin should remain a twin. Not really an innovation. It’s a lot of money, by the time you’ve bought luggage etc. It’s just another ugly duckling.
All these bikes are getting so expensive even a well kitted out 650 verseys would be more like the right sort of price.
you can not compare verseys 650 has nice has it is to the tiger 900 . i have a versys 1000 . thing tiger may be a bit smaller .than my vereys 1000 but performace is not far behind. a lot lighter too.
@@paulneedham3608 I just mean on a price point. In most peoples minds the versys 650 price now over £7k soon too be £8k before long. That's what most people would expect to pay for 1000cc bike. The honda crf1100l adventure sports is a lovely bike but with the dct box it's loads of money.really doesn't seem justified
Chris Hart i think the new Tiger 900 with kit would cost about £14k
@@petewebb6952 sadly new bikes nowadays with sort of tech will cost this sort of money. But there is lots of more realistic priced bikes . But you pay your money and take your choice. That's the beauty of it.
