Excellent video Matt, really liked the look of Jet Blue as an airline, there business (Mint) class layout the service and food presented looked very nice. Enjoy your travels and keep up the good work on the videos soon be at 10k
Another excellent video. Travelling at holiday times is certainly an expensive exercise. I once found myself trying to book a flight to China just before Xmas and discovered that economy was a bit more expensive than Business class in more normal times. Jet Blue certainly seems to be a much nicer experience than the legacy carriers, albeit a touch unconventional. Sometimes the quirkiness of for example Virgin Atlantic can be a little wearing and then suddenly one small thing will make such a good impression that one forgives all the not quite successful attempts to be "different". Seems like Jet Blue certainly walks that line pretty well.
Thanks Les. I'm all for a bit of quirkiness - if I flew every week then I'd probably stay as far away from quirky as I could... At least quirky makes for interesting videos!!!
Hey Matt, love your videos. I fly mint everywhere I go, and this summer, I might fly on JetBlue’s newer a321neo with the redesigned mint suites. So excited to try it out.
Great to explore Matt's thesaurus as part of the experience. I'm liking the strange thrones - flew something similar on Asiana in 2019 I think and enjoyed the space. As for the dairy-free chocolate nuts, it would make me disproportionately excited as someone allergic to milk. I've been wondering about their transatlantic for a while, so it's good to see the domestic product
Thanks for another great one Matt, loved the unacompanied adult😂. Interesting about lounge access. I hold a Dinersclub card, not really expensive but gives access to more than 1500 lounges across the world. Have subsidiary cards for my wife and sons at no extra charge, really works well. Yet to get to an airport where I could not get into a lounge. Earn miles as well for use on a multitide of airlines😊
Diner's Club - not heard that name for ages! I'll take a look! I thought the unaccompanied adult gag was a good'un - had quite a while to come up with it so I needed something good!
Matt…first time seeing your review. Nice. However…on the JetBlue Mint “Throne Seat” you said there wasn’t a door. There is! There’s a lever on right or left arm console (depending on which side of the plane you’re seated) and when you pull it up the door pops out and then you just slide it fully closed. Happy Trails!
Thanks B C. I've been told I missed one of the seat's key features - but I think every other passenger did too as I didn't see anyone use it and the crew didn't feel the need to draw my attention to it!! Thanks for the comment though - gives me a reason to fly on JB again to correct the record!!!
As always great video! Thanks. 5:08 Ever since March SAS flies A321LR to BOS and IAD from Scandinavia. Might be more routes, but those two I've flown. :)
Similar story here for me regarding Priority Pass, which I get for free with the Centurion card. Almost always I enjoy entry thanks to my status and/or travel class. So I barely ever use it, and when I do the experience is never stellar. The last time was in Mumbai a month or so ago... and I was turned away as it was full. The time before that was at BHX, when there was a long line at the Escape lounge so I wondered over to No 1 where it was almost empty. It was OK as a waiting room and for a coffee first thing in the morning. Other than that I honestly can't remember the last time I used it, several years for sure.
Thanks - if it came free with something I already paid for then fantastic but I can see myself getting value out of it if I paid for it - even with the flying I do for the channel!
Really enjoyed your "quirky" video (and thanks for the shout out!). I loved my flight with jetBlue when I flew with them last year - they have such an "offbeat" sense of humor with their individually names aircraft (all with a "blue" or "mint" themed pun) and a great onboard product. I was just sad that my overnight flight limited the food options - yours looked really great and a step above what you'd often get with one of the legacy carriers. These suites do actually have a door - but it pops out of the side panel - not sure if you found it on your flight or not? Really makes you feel like you're in your own little private cabin. Hope to try their "new" Mint suites at some point in the future - have you any plans to fly that product and compare the two? If only they could sort out lounge access on these Mint routes - and proper membership of a global airline alliance (OneWorld - Please!!!), then I think they would have a winning combination on top of an already great product!
Cheers Craig - would love to know if the mention shifts the needle for you in any way... Didn't notice a door and it certainly wasn't deployed... Mint to the US (or back!) is certainly on the short list - perhaps the medium list. Not that cheap though... They seem to have won the battle to acquire Spirit which may take their focus for a couple of years... Incorporating Spirit isn't likely to increase the average quality of their offering and make lounges essential... One of those Heathrow programmes suggested that their slot allocation in LHR was by no means guaranteed when things go back to normal so I'd imagine they'd want to secure permanent slots before making massive investments...
@@MattsPlanet will most certainly let you know once your video goes to GenPop! The door is certainly not obvious like BA Club Suite of Qsuites - might be the crew only release as a matter of course for the night flights?!?
That may be the case - the crew were really good so I doubt they just didn't get round to opening them. Will have to fly them again to see it!!! Annoying when you miss something in a video though...
The lack of lounges and the fact the mainline carriers in the US dont allow top tier status fliers to access their lounges is why you would get a Priority Pass in the US. Were you to fly regularly around the US, you'd find your BA Gold status would get you into AA lounges, but the equivalent AA status would not. Priority Pass membership (at a basic level) is given out with a lot of credit card offerings in the US. Amex has its Centurion offerings, which are quite well regarded. Internationally, I have found Priority Pass only useful a handful of times - but when I needed it, gosh did it help as there was no other way to get lounge access.
Thanks RTB - that makes sense actually. Its easier to get into a US lounge with a credit card than with a premium ticket on the airline the lounge is notionally built for!!!
Excellent review. Love the humor, erm, humour. I think comparing US domestic "first" cabins to international transcon or transoceanic premium cabins is the wrong comp. US carriers' domestic "first class" includes first class two by two recliners with decent width, great legroom, meal and drinks service, etc - even on flights from say JFK to Miami or SEA to LAX. What alway boggles our American frequent flier minds is what almost all Euro carriers call "business class" within Europe - which is almost always just a coach seat with a middle seat blocked. We'd love to find something akin to US domestic first on a euro carrier flight from say LHR to PRG, or Venice to AMS, etc etc. As for premium cross country routes like JFK-LAX/SFO/SEA - most US carriers do offer something akin to Mint or better (we find Delta to be the best of those).
Thanks Mike. Agree with most of that. But if you're an international traveller used to international first and you get on an F branded service in the us - you're going to be a bit disappointed!
This was an excellent video with numerous points we need to know about the service and some out of the box humor. Like your mention of being Aussie if you’d been queried on independence day- if I’m in San Francisco I say I’m from Toronto - not red Oklahoma !
Thanks Scott... Reminds be about a joke I heard... Something about why doesn't Texas float away into the Gulf Of Mexico? Can't remember the punchline but I think I did here the joke when I lived in California!
Mint are a great onboard product and the transatlantic suites are first rate BUT lounges really are essential in this category. We fly business class as a family for our holidays, and the departure and arrivals lounges are a key part of the experience.
Thanks Greg - JetBlue seems to be challenging whether lounges for premium cabins are actually essential - the feedback on this video suggests they probably are!
Jet blue currently use a newer version of this product transatlantic as you commented Matt, however they will apparently be using some of the older aircraft on the JFK-LGW run soon... Another informative blogg...Jet blue just need to sort the lounge situation out. The £-$ rate is not helping either...
Thanks Richard... i think that configuration would be competitive across the Atlantic even if its not as good as the new Mint... Not that different a length of flight compared to this one come to think of it!
This was bought directly through JetBlue rather than as a codeshare. Plus JetBlue goes from Terminal C when American is B so it wouldn't have been possible even if I had
Hi, Great info videos 👍🏿. I have 106,500+ Avios points. Wish to visit Sri Lanka, on Qatar Airline, in June/July 2023. I don’t know how to redeem the points! Both BA & Qatar not responding my query!! I seek two flight tickets for my wife & myself. Would I be better off converting to Nectar points & buy the tickets from travel agents. Plz advise 🙏🏽
Assuming the avios are with BA? You should be able to search for availability through ba.com? Or create a Qatar account, move the avios across and search there?
So, no synonym check for 'laid'? Just as well. I'd happily try this airline; I can't recall any bad video-reviews of it. Lounge access? I'm currently buying mine as and when I need it. Perhaps I should be looking for a credit-card that gives me some lounge action.
As you said - just as well! Not having lounge access mid afternoon on a flight when I was going to be well fed and watered after boarding wasn't a big deal - as I say in the video the opportunities to use a lounge access scheme have been quite limited. I am mostly sticking with alliance airlines with whom I have status until I've covered the majority of them at which time I might take a closer look at Priority Pass...
Haha always good to make a joke with the check in staff, I've been upgraded in the past just for being nice to them. Although it was a European flight.
Whoa whoa whoa…at 7.40 you seem to imply the drinks cabinet is locked on international flights from the US?! Is there something I should know? Doing my first trip to NYC since “you know what” in a couple of weeks
Some airlines claim that if they open the drinks cabinet in an overseas port, they are then required to pay the duty on the alcohol they serve as it is effectively landed in that country. I've never worked out whether its true or not but I've been on plenty of planes where no alcohol has been served before take-off with airlines using that excuse. After take-off, you're in international territory so the trolley can be unlocked. Not an issue on a domestic flight as you're already in the country so any duty on the booze would already have had to be paid.
Thank you for the very detailed (and very quick!) explanation. I’m hoping I can get a pre-takeoff sharpener on BA this month…will let you know! PS I get a lot of value from priority pass…surprised you think you wouldn’t!
@@jonnylons1 BA ex-London is usually pretty good at having the trolleys unlocked... I have gold status with all three alliances at the moment to the opportunity to use PP is very limited for me....
