    I don't know why every one wants to report every word a actor says but he's right. Today you can't discuss anything. If you try to insert other possibilities or opinions or ideologies just as conversation people are ready to tar and feather you! The art of conversation and discussion is gone as we know it. Mores the pity.

    "He doesn't need me..."
    A true sign of a healthy relationship between father and son. Jeremy is sure Max can do good on its own, which doesn't necessarily mean a lack of love or interest. It's real assertiveness and trust. In my opinion, that's very important: to let know (and I mean, TELLING THEM) your offspring that you trust his/her judgement and that if they need something, there's always space for comprehension.
    Wish I had a father just like Mr. Irons.

    It's getting the point these days, and this is all things to political correctness, that you can't even there to have your own opinion anymore, let alone voice that, without somebody condemning you for it.
    It is really a shame, because everyone deserves to have their voice heard. That's what the First Amendment is all about, and wasn't written to protect popular speech, but rather unpopular speech.

    Really interesting clip/interview. I have always really liked Jeremy Irons who I find a bright spot in almost everything he's been in, I completely share the comments here regarding his voice as I can listen to him all day too. I have watched a fair few of his interviews and he comes over as a very nice, easy to interview, intelligent and even funny guy who offers a lot of insight, have found myself educated by a lot of what he says. I have seen absolutely none of what he is criticised and bordering on villified for by some, in especially Dailymail (which I have learned a long time ago to take what they say about celebrities with a pinch of salt with its shoddy journalism, baity headlines, bias and irritating habit of constantly bringing up controversies, a vast majority of the time irrelevant, and twisting the truth) and that paper's disgusting online comments that resort to attacking him personally. I tend not to trust most of the comments I see on that site because it is full of liars, vitriol and people looking for more reasons to hate somebody they don't like. I only saw one time where things nearly got heated, and I felt it was clear that Irons felt he was being confronted and I don't think he likes confrontation and is probably not always comfortable in company.
    Although I do use Facebook for keeping in touch with friends and promotional purposes, I absolutely agree with what he says about how terrifying and dangerous social media is (with heated debates turning into warzones, controversial statements resulting in bad consequences, risk of scams, risk of viruses, cyber bullying and risk of people being targeted by predators). And in regard to people not being able to have a proper or constructive discussion or thing to say these days, apparent on social media all the time and off it too because people are so influenced by it. Same with voicing an opinion different from the norm at the risk of being slammed. Aways am glad when there are people who think so and voice what they think.
    I have noticed that with Irons more than once (some of which taken out of context, or twisted, and blown out of proportion) and have understood where he comes from more than once even if I don't always agree. Regarding the Kiev comment, that definitely strikes me as a genuine mistake not ignorance, made on the spur of the moment when adrenaline and pressure was building and he would also have been tired. Didn't you notice the hesitation and erring that happened before he said it, he clearly forgot where it was at that time. That is not the first or only mistake Irons has made in interviews, all genuine and not ignorance. A couple of times he has even said wrong names for his own characters. For instance, on if I remember correctly The One Show he called Mufasa Simba in regard to character designs and how disappointed he was in the one for Scar in comparison to Mufasa. I put that down to spur of the moment, tiredness and he was also thrown by a question or what was said earlier on where he had to put the presenter in her place. Sorry if this is too long.

    • @aaronmarko
      @aaronmarko 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      it's okay to have an opinion on something. you can even have the opinion that being gay is bad. it's just when you take action on that opinion and make someone else's life shitty that makes you a piece of shit. sure, have an opinion that gay marriage is bad. but don't stand in the way of 2 people getting married, because that makes you a piece of shit.

      I see what you mean. I hate the way people in social media etc went crazy zombie-apocalypse mode at Jeremy because of that one phrase used in a discussion and torn out of context.
      He has a right to have his own opinion and express it! Myself, I feel controversial about gay marriages. I'm not sure that it's right but I'm not about to judge anyone, because I don't believe in one set universal truth. But what I believe in, is that anyone has a right to their own opinion, and expressing it without getting lynched.

    • @Mybpeterson
      @Mybpeterson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They didn't report Iron's phrase in the context of a conversation. That's his point about social media. In the original interview they were kicking around ideas and he says he was playing devils advocate at times. People everywhere were having conversations like that. It's a good thing. The more it was discussed the more people realized what gay marriage meant and what it didn't mean.
      Irons came to this conclusion: "I think gay marriage is wonderful. I think any reason that holds anybody together in a relationship is great. If it works as glue, if it makes you feel better, if it makes you feel you love your partner more, then great."
      The same goes for straight couples. If two consenting adults want to get married, more power to them. Being married is both wonderful and hard work. Gay marriage isn't going to lead to the breakdown of society or effect me or my marriage in any way. Gay couples have always existed, having the right to marry only brings it out of the closet and grants them the basic rights we take for granted. Like visiting their loved one in a hospital. Of course, anyone can believe that gay marriage isn't okay, so long as they don't use that opinion to prohibit what other people can do with their lives.
