The advance Down B technique is pretty hard to execute. Here is the tips. Try if you can do it :) 1. Run backward and short hop 2. While in the air, turn around and Down B The whole input should be done in a very very short time, so it is hard. You may have to change your control to make it easier. Hope it helps :)
As a Zelda main, I feel that I should add what I can to this already useful store of knowledge. You covered a lot of what Zelda has going for her here, but there are three things that I noticed were not present. 1.) Purposefully not sweetspotting the ledge with Up-B. You see it happen in the video during another showcase (at 2:33), but it definitely should be brought to potential Zelda player's attention. 2-framing teleport recoveries is a big weakness for those who have them, and this is a good way to try to combat that by having the hitbox of Up-B protect you as you recover. 2.) Phantom baiting out counters/reflects that you can grab. This is very similar to the baiting shield part of the video, but I feel like it should have its own mention. Certain characters with reflectors, like Fox, Wolf, King K Rool, Palutena, etc, and others with odd counters, like Joker or Incineroar, all like to jump in front of the Phantom in hopes of using their Down-B to punish the Zelda for spamming Phantom. Grabbing people out of these attempts a few times will dissuade them from going for the Down-B in the future, thereby allowing you to use the Phantom like you would if they didn't have that move in the first place, giving you a lot more options for zoning you otherwise wouldn't have. 3.) Ledgetrump Phantom. An option that more cautious players will often go for to deal with Phantom pressure at the ledge is to wait and use the getup invincibility to avoid the phantom's hitbox. A fun thing one can do is summon the Phantom and then perform the instant ledgetrump; knocking your opponent off the ledge and into the sword of the now attacking Phantom. I don't recall seeing it done in tournaments, and it is something I am still trying to learn due to the difficulty of doing the instant ledgetrump with slower characters, but it can destroy those who have poor distance on their recoveries due to the launch distance and angle. Other than these, you captured pretty much everything that I can think of when it comes to Zelda play. The "show, don't tell" style here makes it stand out from other "guide" videos and is actually quite informative. Stuff like this should have more views.
Malrict, Thank you for adding this info to make everything comprehensive! Really appreciate that :) 1) I see some players missing the sweetspot of Up B on purpose too. Thank you for reminding that! That's definitely very useful when Zelda can mix up her recovery options. 2) Zelda players should really be cautious of characters that can reflect Phantom! Hope the info helps Zelda players to be better :D
You can actually punish a lot of characters trying to reflect phantom with up B. If you see a character like G&W or Wolf pull out their reflector just up be right at them. Not something to rely on, but if you notice them going for reflects then going for this can be a good option.
I actually don’t know this, but say a character with a reflect for the Phantom performs this successfully, can Zelda use her neutral B to counter back or does that not work? Basically reflect a reflect?
@@VictorPitstop you can do that, but a lot of characters have reflectors that last for a while and will just hit it right back again. I tried this in tournament against a Palutena once and died at like 20%
I really appreciate how you use pro play for your examples. Analyzing upper level smash players’ strategies is a lot more helpful than random tips and tricks. Great content!
@@amazingsmash5643 thank you! I've try to incorporate some of these combos into my Zelda gameplay and I started doing down air a lot and it's really helped! Great video just like the Bayonetta one😊
Another thing I noticed that people do accidentally at times is starting to summon a phantom right before they grab the ledge, it gives lots of pressure and mix up potential. If you can force them to grab the ledge with dins fire, you should be able to do this. 0:22 and 2:00 and 7:00 n 7:13 n 8:34
I don't blame you. It is the slowest non-tether grab in the game (f10 standing, f13 dash, f14 pivot), so when you factor in Zelda's below average mobility, it can be pretty hard to land without conditioning or using Phantom to help cover your approach. Kinda sucks because she has good DI dependent throw combos and two kill throws that are excellent with rage.

What's so funny is that all the top players who have a reflect never use it. PHANTOM CAN BE REFLECTED! But I should probaly not spread this around cos I'm a Zelda main.
It’s a good bait to use as a Zelda. You up B or down air or Up B into them while they try to reflect. Down air to phantom to fair is a true combo for 60%+, so it’s nice when people try to reflect.
That's not really a concern, at higher levels of play.. if anything it's just bait. You can just dair onto most reflectors.. dash grab.. or just use as bait and full hop over, and start a combo/shine them in lag after reflect. If the pros don't do it, there's probably a reason yo.
Do you think Zelda deserves to be a higher tier?
I think they could have just fixed her nair and she would have been low a tier but they BUFFED everything so I think she rivals like where chrom is
Zelda is cursed. She deserves to be nerfed if not removed from the game entirely.
@@aidantrujillo1477 You misspelled Palutena

Beautiful video! Straight to the point!
You can also up-b on the ground and hold down to get the up-B hit in place. It’s great for when opponents are charging at you.

Zelda has always been my main and with this video it'll be even more fun to play with her. Thanks!
I can never hit with the down B move when edgeguarding
Many people don't know that she can kill people with up b after down throw but it only works at certain percentage
Looking to pocket Zelda, or secondary her if I get good enough. Thanks! Super cool tips. Earned my sub.
Down B + Forward Air 🤩
That is a really nice setup I like to use :)
Can you drag down NAir like in Smash 4?

Zelda is top tier
5:20 how do you input forward-air out of shield? Whenever I try, my character does a rolling dodge instead.
make sure you press jump before you move the stick, it's tight timing but just practice it
Just press the jump button and attack button holding in the direction you want. Press them at the same-ish time, jump slightly before attack.
Still I’ve done many of the other things, including the Phantom moves... BUT THE GRAB I SWEAR I ALWAYS FORGET- :’V
