  • In this video I compare three editions of the classic Dirk Henn / Queen board game Metro, also known in one edition as Cable Car.
Board Gems highlights older board and card games that are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten!

I’ve played Tsuro and it was fine, but there seems to be a little more going on in these 2 games. I think i’m leaning towards picking up Cable Car over Metro. Any thoughts?

I'd agree with that. Tsuro is a filler, and so has its place as a super-quick game. Metro is a longer game, but still the base game is quite light. For modern hobbyists I suspect base Metro isn't enough, so you'd want one that came with at least an expansion. That's: Cable Car 2009, Metro 2017, and Metro: City Edition 2024. I happen to like the company expansion which unfortunately retail City edition doesn't have. Of the other two, have a look and see which looks better to your eye!
Just note what I said in the video about the arrows on the tiles. I personally like the look, but people I play with tend to forget you can't normally rotate the tiles if big visual arrows aren't there to remind them.

I appreciate Cole Wehrle for several reason, and one of them is that he thinks about the box and it is the size it needs to be, no more no less.

I like his Wehrlegig games. Beautiful components, historical settings, and reasonably sized bookshelf profiles. They are not typically my type of game at all, but I have Pax Pamir 2e and John Company 2e anyway, because I *love* board games, and these are great mature ones.
