If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

Great work Mark! In classic form for these type of shows you condensed 72 hours of work into 32 minutes. Can’t wait to see the car back from the dip!

Thanks Darren. Looking forward to slowing it all down a little instead of pushing so hard to make the deadline. To much like work around here 😰

Working for free on this one but the payday will come when Ruby is all done. It feels really good to make this big step.

So I am not the only one who is fixing body work I did when I was a teenager! (Actually I was in my early 20's) when I worked on the '50 panel truck. At least I didn't use window screen and tar, ha ha.
Great work Mark. I don't even want to know the hours I have put into the panel truck.

I am definitely not the same person I was from back then in what I think looks good and my skill level. Luckily I didn't make huge mistakes and horrible style choices but I did wear bell bottom jeans for a while when I was younger. Ruby will be a grown ups car that should have a style that reflects the owner.

I did not have much for skills in the '70's learning as I worked, but more importantly I didn't have the TOOLS. Welding and brazing with an oxy acetelene torch.... warping the heck out of everything...... But now I have TH-cam and nice people like you to show how to do it right!@@FoothillPaintandFabrication

      Thanks Doug.
Now that the pressure is off I can have some fun and enjoy the process more.
How is the truck coming along?

@@FoothillPaintandFabrication I've been on a hiatus from the truck for the past couple of months due to excessive heat in my area. We never saw below 110 degrees for a month! Plus, I had to order a new (old) spindle that had a main bearing freeze and carve a groove into the spindle. :(

Hard to stay motivated when it is that hot for sure. I just struggle through it and then jump in the pool. We didn't have that kind of streak just a bunch of 102, 103, 105 days for a while. Not cooling off at night is the killer. 89 degrees at 2 am is ridiculous.
Sucks about the spindle but at least you know you can trust the running gear when you take it for a long drive.@@douglashart5059

That is very good news. The bottom of your quarters in the trunk might be rusted. The junk I flushed out of that area on Ruby was massive.

Nice work, Mark. I have the 120v model of the spot welder. Have used it for a trial, but am about to use in on my Camaro’s quarter panel very soon!

You are going to love it! What a time saver. Just make sure all four sides are clean to make a good electrical connection. I am thinking about making a remote clamp electrode since that thing is so darn heavy. It would help get into the tight spots too. It will come to me in my sleep and I will build it. 🤔

      Si Señor.
It will come to me in my sleep…..
I’m a firm believer of that approach. Also sometimes know as putting it on the back burner.

Hey Jack you guys doing okay? We got a little taste of the hurricane but nothing like what happened in the south.
Yes I come up with some cool stuff in my sleep, the hard part is remembering in the morning.@@jackcirrito3458

    Another super video Mark!
This gives me an idea of how precise I’ll need to be when I start fitting fenders etc.
When does she go north for dipping?
I drove through Eugene yesterday but didn’t have time to stop.

Check out the very next video and you will see Ruby getting dipped. If you live close to Eugene I highly recommend Metalworks Paint & Rust Removal. They did an awesome job on Ruby.
Definitely getting good fitment while still in steel is the number one thing you need to do. The best paint job in the world looks horrible with ill fitting panels.

Great video 👍 After you really looked at the second panel from the other car and seen the damage it had would you have rather just left the original panel on or still went ahead and put the other panel on?

      Thanks
I would still have replaced it. The original was a huge mess from one end to the other. I did a video on that train wreck. Here is a link th-cam.com/video/U6Xeop40FF0/w-d-xo.html
My only question was if I should buy a repop or use factory steel. Even with all the trouble I am glad I chose factory steel. The repops are good but much thinner sheet metal and it was nice to keep Ruby as OEM as possible.
