Greetings from Ireland , Im 63 and when I was a child I saw a man do work like this fixing cars. I was too young to know I was witnessing a genius in action. Very few would be able to do this or even be bothered to do this standard of work today.

Thank you Mr. Carton ! your compliment is much appreciated, I try to be the best craftsman I can be, God gives everyone a skill set of some sort, it's our job to make the most of it. Unfortunately you are correct standards have fallen... but not with me. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and greeting from America !

I’m restoring a K5 Blazer and have been spending a lot of time getting gaps perfect on it. I went with new fenders too and had some minor fitment issues that I was able resolve like this. Also from the factory the door had a nasty a gap between the A pillar and widow frame. The center of that gap opened up wide and the ends were ok so there was no adjusting for it. I welded in rod and ground off any excess. So far it’s looking like it’s going to be a very straight with great gaps. Much better than what the factory did on trucks back then. I’m no pro but it’s nice to see some of what I’ve done the pros do.

Stumbled across this and glad I did. Thank you for sharing this. I’m trying to build up my skill level. And this really helps. Your explanation is excellent. I was working in a shop that did fake restoration work. It unfortunately was more concerned about time line . And I’d actually get in trouble for “ cutting out the good rust” , scolded for hammer and dolly work. And 1/2” of bondo was acceptable. I’ve seen actual inches used. I could go on and on . People need to research the shop before dropping off their dream. I quit working there for those reasons. But my old boss says you can’t see under the paint .

Wow, thank you so much for your video. I have a 57 chevy after someone gouged down one side, the door and panels are miles apart like the door is now too small. Building out the door with wire to make the top and bottom of the door a little wider is a far better solution than using fibreglass and bondo. This will work out great for me so cheers.

I have been considering how to fix the same gap you worked on, only the fender is fiberglass. So obvious that adding metal to the door is a better and stronger solution than trying to add to the fender! And this video shows it really isn't as hard as I was worrying about. Thank you!

To finish the gap I use a air saw with a saws all blade
I fold 80 grit sticky file paper over the blade instant air file/ air sander that can sand both sides of the gap at once especially when a gap is a little to tight
