Oh by the way, The Camera Switch is a 2 Position switch like a DSLR Camera light press focuses on the image or in auto mode sets the camera options for the area like lighting colour etc and then complete press takes the photo. It's quite a unique switch as it allows you to depress and lets say your focused on a distant object then you lower the gimbal and or drone you keep the button depressed and you can have close objects out of focus or visa versa making for some really nice BOKAH effects quickly and easily. The Host port will connect to your phone, and allow you to browse from the controller, this works also on USB C hard drives, USB C card readers etc, I am using a 20 pin data cable with data transfer of 10gb/s to my devices and they browse and connect just fine, however playing files or opening items is a different story there seems to be an issue there with things, but so far almost everything I have plugged into it is seem by the controller BUT only with the 10Gb/s cable other cables just dont work. These cables are generally thick to pack the wires in, tested to iPad Pro, iPhone, Samsung T7 solid state 1TB USB C Drive, 10GB/s USB C Card Reader and more. Also one thing to note it appears at this stage that the range is far less the RC-N1 but I need to do more testing. Staggered video at short distances is scary and no option to select smooth over HD. Sorry I went on a fair bit, please excuse the long comment.
Unfortunately, here in Brazil, since US dolar and euro are so expensive, the difference between importing the new RC versus the new one is about the price of a new phone. So... That said, I have a tip for those who will stick with the old RC + phone. If you have a samsung phone with bixby routines, justa set a routine to do all of the shortcuts trigger when fly app is opened (do not disturbe mode, display brightness to the maximum, etc). I do this with my mavic pro and it turns everything very easy and quick. Just plug the phone and you're ready to fly.
Thanks for the very in-depth comparison of the two controllers. One advantage of the standard controller that the viewers should be aware is that, unless the RC Controller will be updated with an HDMI out capability, currently the standard controller will allow you to put the phone in a set of VR Goggles such as the MagiMask and have that immersed FPV experience. One other advantage of the Standard Remote is that eventually when DJI releases the SDK, you will be able to use Third Party apps (such as Litchi, Raven, DtoneVR, etc.).
I would probably not pay more for the RC... Its signal seems weaker, 700nits is fine but the latest phones can go way above that... So if they were the same, I'd take it because of ergonomics and design but I dont see myself spending 150 extra if it isnt better in every aspect.
Thats what I am getting around 1km and the video is so staggered its scary. I get 4km with the RC-N1 and my air 2S but I havent compared the old RC and the Mini 3 pro, it could be the Mini 3 Pro is limited in range and not the controller, some testing needs to be done to compare the two.

One downside to the upgraded RC is that currently when you fly it shuts off wifi and bluetooth which kills live maps and make it a bit harder to reset RTH. Great video. Subscribed.
As someone who isn't a fan of the 800nits and 1-hour battery life on the mini 3 RC remotes (if youre at full brightness and screen recording the battery just sucks), I will stick with the standard controller thank you very much. When you shoot in bright daylight for hours the newer controller is a compromise. I have never had any dimming issues on the Samsung and tripltek screens. I think that's an iPhone issue. I just like that I have more options with the standard RC.

I'm not really happy with a lot of the reviews I've seen on the new RC. It doesn't seem to be as robust as the RC-N1. I'm not someone who thinks it's a big deal to have to connect a device to my controller. It's just a part of the process. I bought a TriplTek 8 Pro, which I use with all of my drones. It's worth the "hassle" of having to connect it. 1200 continuous nits of brightness. No more frustrating blackouts with my iPhone or iPad. I'm going to wait and purchase the Mini 3 when they release the version without a controller.
I was going for the Tripltek 8 but then saw it’s quite heavy, which accounts for the large battery. Also saw issues with video playback. It’s also darn expensive for an android tablet, but it’s cheaper than the rc pro controller. I think issues with this controller will be fixed via future updates and my hope is that it will be end up working with the Air 2S and Mavic 3. One thing for sure is that I am not going back to using my phone, for me it’s a pain when they dim, something the tripltek doesn’t do.
Ended up going for the old rc. I hope whatever package you decide you are happy with as at the end of the day the drone is the main product. Happy flying
If the range is not there (I am still testing mine and so far it seems very limited) I will be selling the controller, I already have an RC-N1 with a Tripltek 8 Pro screen which you notice a performance difference when compared, I run an app called dronelink which is resource heavy and needs a beast of a tablet to perform all the tasks flawlessly. So for me buying the DJI RC was the ability to have a device to take just for holidays without lugging all the larger bits of equipment (namely the really heavy tripltek pro tablet). Also I cant see them releasing the SDK for the Mini 3 Pro for at least 1 year and thats also another reason not to fly it using the tripletek setup as there is no need.

Good video, but you missed the most critical thing - the range of the DJI RC compared to the N1 in the U.K.. Quite a few people are saying that the range of the N1 and Mini 2 is far superior to the much more expensive Mini 3 Pro and DJI RC. Range is important for me
You’re in San Diego, and I can’t believe I’ve never run into you! Glad I stumbled upon your channel. Absolutely love it because I live in San Diego. It’s nice to see our skyline!
Just to put it out there. The RC Pro works with Mini 3 Pro. The software update was just released yesterday or 2 days ago I think. So I think the RC that comes with the Mini 3 Pro might be compatible with the Mavic 3 soon. So if you own a Mavic 3 and would want the RC Pro but can’t afford it try to wait for the RC that comes with the Mini 3, it might be sold separately and use it with the Mavic 3.
It would be great to have a video comparing just the mini 3 to the Air 2 S. I saw the video with all 4 drones but feel that now the price point being so close between the Air 2S with the mini 3 a real detailed break down of these 2 would make since. For myself, I’m now Looking closer at the Air 2 S
I heard because the new controller has a build in antennas, the range is not so good. You’ll start to lose your signal at 1.5km… as it suppose to have 12km of range. Have you test out the range on both controller yet? It will be nice to see the results😄Range is a big issue, it gives the drone pilot confidence when flying.
A potential problem with the remote vs phone. On the phone it can save the cache at 1080. Nice for Instagram posts etc. With the remote you now need another SD, whereas with your phone you wont. Also with a phone connected you are connected to the internet. With the remote I supose you will need to find a Wifi spot?
Flying is anyway just allowed in the line of sight. So for me I decided to go for the RC-N1. Phone has a big microSD card inside and thats it can do screen recording if i want.
I am not sure he is allowed to discuss range due to agreements with DJI. We need greater transparency if we are to trust these channels. Such a critical issue yet it is being avoided. Many ppl would not buy this drone if it can only do 1Km worst than the original mini which I got to 2km
@@WiljanWiljan this is terrible range test. Person is testing by surrounding of brick buildings.. such a bad test. It need to be clear view of the long distance. But anyway I think specs would be the same as on mini2
OK because people are curious: Here are my results, I flew 3.5km solid FULL not one bar down signal on both remotes at the coast away from the city areas today. It appears that the issue went away after I did a bind to the RC-N1 and then re-bind back to the original DJI RC (the screen type that came with the mini 3 pro). Winds were a little scary to go further and it was hard to find a spot where the wind would blow it back to me assisting in return but I managed to find the spot for the 3.5km testing distance and back. Interesting thing in Normal mode the battery indicator is very accurate. Much more so than other drones. Just saying. A weird thing is return to home, it comes back and lands almost on the spot where I took off but it kind of does a little of a crab effect along the way so the camera isnt pointing directly at your take off location, strange - recalibrated compass in a grass field, same results, but it's fine you can rely on the RTH function as it lands within 500cm of take off. So I can not explain why initially from the factory I could only get 1km range and was degraded so bad I couldnt fly because all that has now gone and it is doing what you would expect it to do.
@@Drone-Pilot Thanks for the clarification regarding CE or FCC. I am in the U.K. and we are regulated to only use the CE version. I have just cancelled my Mini 3 order with DJI as the range tests that I have seen are extremely poor when using the CE version. At the moment I will stick with my Phantom 3 Advanced and use the parabolic reflectors to boost the range. Must say that I am a bit jealous of you guys outside of Europe who can fully utilise the potential of your drones.
@@michaeljohnson-li5nn Yeah being in Australia is good for that reason however we do have other limitations here, so we arent totally free to do what we want. Heck I even had to get licensed to fly in many areas that when the new rules and regulations came out we were no longer permitted to do so. But back to the range of this controller, it is a shame that they didnt build in some directional antennas to make it better, I was watching a guy that used the alientech duo antennas dual frequency on an RC-N1 in the EU and he got really great range (battery was the limitation) Perhaps the standard controller and the Mini 3 Pro is the better option for EU pilots???
I find it very convenient to get the controller with the built-in screen ‘cause I’ll be needing my phone for some other things and my phone battery is quite annoying. The new controller looks very cool too!!! Can’t wait to finally experience the Mini 3 Pro!!!
Hey that continuous zooming with the right scroll wheel doesn't work with the Mavic 3 Classics. It does incremental steps of zoom power 1 to 3. What was DJI thinking.l
Great video. Thank you. I am hoping that DJI makes this compatible with other drones, including the Air 2s, AND that they allow third-party software to run on it. The latter is a deal breaker for me.
Here's my 2c after watching several range test videos of the new RC..... Can you fly FCC? Then get the new controller. Do you fly CE? Then stick with the old RC-N1 unless you want to deal with serious signal issues.
Mini 3 Pro with the new controller it is!!! I mean I’m already very eager to get that combo anyway but this video helped me in finally deciding to go for it. Thank you!
You still need a WiFi connection to your phone to use the maps, or to download high Res videos, not possible to the RC.. also only iPhones dim.. get an Android phone.. screen is below the sticks.. and it's £150 more expensive.. the only upside is the custom buttons, you get one extra... Oh yeah the range also suffers on the RC Vs the N1
As usual an excellent video, and thank you, but a couple of questions. As I presume the DJI RC doesn't have a SIM card you have no real time data, for example map details, how are they refreshed? In particular if the last time it was on with a WiFi connection was at home and then you travel abroad or to another part of the country, how do maps get updated for new location? Also what about unlocking geofence (not sure I have that named correctly as I haven't used it to-date) surely that needs an online feed? You could buy a very good sun shade for the RC-N1 from DJI which is made specifically for it. I'm sure the DJI RC would also benefit from a shade in full sun, but is it possible to use a shade with it? Finally can you edit video from the drone on the DJI RC? Again many thanks.
You are 100% right in my opinion, only consumers can know what they need, and this video is excellent to help them choose. But through the video, I have a feeling that you piss on an older version, next to a newer version the way you put it it's like you are better to fly your drone with your mind...
The two screwholes situated on the bottom of the RC controller. Are they threaded? I’m looking to see if a lanyard can be fitted anywhere to the bottom. Or if these are just screws holding the controller together. Is it possible to remove one and show what it looks like? Then an extended version can possibly be made with a lanyard attachment on it.
If you live in hot climates the new DJI RC is a no brainer. Sure you might always have your phone around you, but it will dim to 75-50% of your max screen brightness and become extremely laggy (I know because I live in Texas). Even when I use a shade, remove the case and put an aluminum ruler on the back of the phone as a heat sink it still thermals throttles substantially. If you do live somewhere hot, please get the DJI RC option. You won’t have to suffer as much.
Great comparison video, but all us flyers need a solid connection. It’s not about flying miles just keeping control at all times. The new RC looks amazing but the connection issues need to be addressed or it will be a big fail.
Testers in Europe have problems with the range of the mini 3 pro. In 1500 m distance the signal gets very week. Maybe the new RC controller has a problem with the internal antennas?
Im in Australia and getting the same results, we are the same as US in power etc. I would have been sceptical of power output for EU people because of their regulations, but here in Australia we have the same as the USA in power and my range is 1km before video gets staggered. I think it's looking to be a design issue with internal antennas.
@@Drone-Pilot hi drone pilot, I am concerned about the new mini 3 with the new rc. I currently have the mini 2 and I am getting excellent range and pretty much the only thing stopping me going further is battery time. I am also in Australia. I have the mini 3 on order but am thinking of cancelling the order due to these issues. Have you got the mini 3 and have you been able to complete tests with both remotes? Thanks.

Aldryn, thank you for all the great Mini 3 Pro coverage. I'm going with the new RC remote because I've had the unfortunate experience of my phone crashing at the worst possible time and prefer to avoid that issue in the future. Some are reporting transmission issues which is a big concern for me but I expect an update will address that......hopefully.
Air2S does not allow zooming in 10 bit recording. Can you zoom in D-Cinelike mode with Mini3? An advantage of new RC is it's 2 wheels if zoom is useful.
Nice review but you can not use an iPad Mini which uses a much bigger screen. I also use an old Galaxy Note9 (which I do not use as a phone anymore) which also use a much bigger screen
maybe it's already been mentioned somewhere, but why are the joysticks above the screen and not below? don't your hands block parts of the screen? it seems awkward to use with this orientation
Why did they remove the ability for the drone to still rotate during RTH? That was only the only ways to get a decent dolly shot. They could have at lest added the course lock feature to regular video.
finally , this is great! the phone controller really sucked and you always need to waste time with connecting openinf the app and then someone called :)
The 150$ difference is from the bulk with the n1controller. So you need to add the cost of n1 to the value which you dont. The differnce in the price is ~300$ for buing the new controller. Doent make any sense to say that the new controller will not cost 150$ when will be available to buy one separetely since as i said be4 you havent consider r1 price in the bulk. Keep up the good work.
if you're gonna shell out money to buy a drone might as well buy the one with the RC Control, like he mentioned less hassle to have to hookup the wires to a phone or tablet
Hmmm, currently using an iPad pro with a matte screen protector, still using my zoom, upgrading to the mini 3. Don't think I'll b getting the screen jus for custom buttons, but for the zoom..... kinda need that.
reports are coming out that the range with the N1 remote is better than the more expensive RC remote. Could you please compare the two and share a range test? DJI are claiming some wild max distances which are, so far, no where near those numbers. Thanks!
Good video Aldryn. I have just watched the reviewer Tech Drone Media do a range test on the new RC Controller and it was very disappointing. Hopefully DJI can sort this out.
new RC cannot operate waypoint apps. But it depends on firmware updates and the processors. Do you know how the performance of the processor in the new RC?
The thing with it, is it's got such a small screen, I fly my mini 2 using a Galaxy tab 7 fe, as for your comment about being able to zoom with the second scroll wheel, you can use the scroll wheel in conjunction with the fn button to zoom on the standard controller, which is what I would use if I were to buy a mini 3 (my existing setup), but I'm not getting the 3 as I don't think it offers enough bang for the buck over the 2 and third party software such as Dronelink
Please compare it with dji Air 2 Fly more combo Because the price of both are very similar What you'll recommend: the mini 3 pro with RC or Air 2 fly more combo for less money
Can I fly Mini 3 Pro with the original Smart Controller that came out with Mavic 2 Pro? I have both and thinking of buying mini 3 pro as a backup drone.

Awesome video as always Aldryn. Such great coverage on all things drone and action cam related. My go to source for this type of content
Awesome, thank you!
Is the upgrade worth it to upgrade from a Mavic Mini.
Awesome and Amazing! Thanks Happy Flying!
I’m very excited to fly the Mini 3 Pro with that new controller. Going to be fun! Thank you for always sharing your expertise!
Flying is anyway just allowed in the line of sight. So for me I decided to go for the RC-N1. Phone has a big microSD card inside and thats it can do screen recording if i want.
Range test! I've seen a few videos with the DJI RC where signal loss occurs around 1km.
As noted, you still need a phone to give you a hot spot so that you can use the maps feature in the App.
OK because people are curious:
Here are my results, I flew 3.5km solid FULL not one bar down signal on both remotes at the coast away from the city areas today.
CE or FCC version?
@@michaeljohnson-li5nn I have FCC version, Im in Australia
But back to the range of this controller, it is a shame that they didnt build in some directional antennas to make it better, I was watching a guy that used the alientech duo antennas dual frequency on an RC-N1 in the EU and he got really great range (battery was the limitation)
Perhaps the standard controller and the Mini 3 Pro is the better option for EU pilots???
DJI RC is compatible as of today with Air2S. Firmware of the remote controller and the drone is needed.
I find it very convenient to get the controller with the built-in screen ‘cause I’ll be needing my phone for some other things and my phone battery is quite annoying. The new controller looks very cool too!!! Can’t wait to finally experience the Mini 3 Pro!!!
I heard the usb c can be used for wireless mic receiver with proper cables. , allowing your voice to be matched with the screen recording all syncd up
Hey that continuous zooming with the right scroll wheel doesn't work with the Mavic 3 Classics. It does incremental steps of zoom power 1 to 3. What was DJI thinking.l
Great video. Thank you. I am hoping that DJI makes this compatible with other drones, including the Air 2s, AND that they allow third-party software to run on it. The latter is a deal breaker for me.
Definitely gonna buy when I have enough money in future! Love from India!
Another thing to consider is you may need wifi or Hotspot for the maps.... unlike using your phone
Here's my 2c after watching several range test videos of the new RC..... Can you fly FCC? Then get the new controller. Do you fly CE? Then stick with the old RC-N1 unless you want to deal with serious signal issues.
I just ordered the Mini 3 Pro with the RC controller. Do I still need to install the DJI APP on my iPhone or iPad ?? This is my first drone.
Mini 3 Pro with the new controller it is!!! I mean I’m already very eager to get that combo anyway but this video helped me in finally deciding to go for it. Thank you!
Since I got the old controller I will get the mini 3 pro without the controller for now its a money saver
Can I use the USB-C HOST on the RC remote to charge the DRONE?
Excellent Video and Excellent Information. Thank You.
does the DJI RC work with the Mini?
You are 100% right in my opinion, only consumers can know what they need, and this video is excellent to help them choose. But through the video, I have a feeling that you piss on an older version, next to a newer version the way you put it it's like you are better to fly your drone with your mind...
Which one so you recommend?
Love the breakdown....making me want the DJI RC.....decisions decisions....
And you won’t go as far as much. The new RC is terrible for range. Just look it up.
@@Billo1281 I’m not sure about this yet, I have friends in Philippines and Australia and never had any issue.
Great comparison video, but all us flyers need a solid connection. It’s not about flying miles just keeping control at all times. The new RC looks amazing but the connection issues need to be addressed or it will be a big fail.
Maybe they can use the ports to attach an antenna signal booster. Pull an apple and charge you more money fir something that should come with it
Thanks for sharing. Cant wait to get the new RC !
I ordered the the new RC because I already have a Mini 2 with the RC-N1... they'll both work if needed
Perfect.... Thanks.... just what I was looking for.
"inbox the above Social media platform".... what exactly does this mean?
Testers in Europe have problems with the range of the mini 3 pro. In 1500 m distance the signal gets very week. Maybe the new RC controller has a problem with the internal antennas?
Im in Australia and getting the same results, we are the same as US in power etc. I would have been sceptical of power output for EU people because of their regulations, but here in Australia we have the same as the USA in power and my range is 1km before video gets staggered. I think it's looking to be a design issue with internal antennas.
@@Drone-Pilot I think your right. Can you use your old Mini 2 controller with the Mini 3 Pro?
@@Drone-Pilot hi drone pilot, I am concerned about the new mini 3 with the new rc. I currently have the mini 2 and I am getting excellent range and pretty much the only thing stopping me going further is battery time. I am also in Australia. I have the mini 3 on order but am thinking of cancelling the order due to these issues. Have you got the mini 3 and have you been able to complete tests with both remotes? Thanks.
@@scottsatasvids1634 I am probably going to test the old controller tomorrow some time, Im a little pressed for time today, but I might get a chance later tonight. Ill let you know.
Am I right thinking that you can use your Mini 2 controller with the Mini 3 Pro 3?
Dji. Release the RC remote (tool only)! Please make it backwards compatible & under $300. Oh awesome video!
Great video! Thanks for the info!
Now I am using Mini 3 Pro RC drone to shot my beautiful country. I like it :)
but.... is the range subpar?
Aldryn, thank you for all the great Mini 3 Pro coverage. I'm going with the new RC remote because I've had the unfortunate experience of my phone crashing at the worst possible time and prefer to avoid that issue in the future. Some are reporting transmission issues which is a big concern for me but I expect an update will address that......hopefully.
Same...
Hi, great content. Quick question: Does the remote with the screen eliminate the need for the app?
Air2S does not allow zooming in 10 bit recording. Can you zoom in D-Cinelike mode with Mini3? An advantage of new RC is it's 2 wheels if zoom is useful.
So the new internal-only antennas might be the reason for the subpar rangetests so far with new remote. Interesting.
I heard the range is not so good with RC control is that true 🤔
@@WiljanWiljan + th-cam.com/video/_6kliYfD5C8/w-d-xo.html
Nice review but you can not use an iPad Mini which uses a much bigger screen. I also use an old Galaxy Note9 (which I do not use as a phone anymore) which also use a much bigger screen
Is this worth buying if I already have mavic air 2
Love your stuff it is very well done!!
thanks! very helpful
With the RC and mini 3 pro can you go live on FB?
Preordered! Yeaaaaah baby!
maybe it's already been mentioned somewhere, but why are the joysticks above the screen and not below?
don't your hands block parts of the screen?
it seems awkward to use with this orientation
Going with phone RC, because makes it easier to post on social media directly with my phone!
So I take it the only way to run a mapping app or other app is to use the N1?
Will Mini 3 RC controller work with Mavic 3?
if you're gonna shell out money to buy a drone might as well buy the one with the RC Control, like he mentioned less hassle to have to hookup the wires to a phone or tablet
Provided it works well. Apparently it does not
Hmmm, currently using an iPad pro with a matte screen protector, still using my zoom, upgrading to the mini 3.
No one is allowed to discuss this issue aparently. DJI has them on silence
Where can you buy the remote with the screen? DJI syas they are discontinuing the controller. Thanks in advance.
new RC cannot operate waypoint apps. But it depends on firmware updates and the processors. Do you know how the performance of the processor in the new RC?
Wouldn’t the exposed antenna perform better than the RC incorporated one? Thanks!
Hi, Is the RC - Smart controller, compatible with other DJI drones, please?
Fantastic ! Thank you for your explanation.
Very informative thanks
I do not have a computer, i only own and iPhone, so is it possible to transfer the pictures and videos to your mobile phone from the new controller??
The thing with it, is it's got such a small screen, I fly my mini 2 using a Galaxy tab 7 fe, as for your comment about being able to zoom with the second scroll wheel, you can use the scroll wheel in conjunction with the fn button to zoom on the standard controller, which is what I would use if I were to buy a mini 3 (my existing setup), but I'm not getting the 3 as I don't think it offers enough bang for the buck over the 2 and third party software such as Dronelink
Good Day sir! There's a difference between gold and silver parabolic?
I'm assuming you can't use apps like litchi on the pro rc, correct?
Please compare it with dji Air 2 Fly more combo
Because the price of both are very similar
What you'll recommend: the mini 3 pro with RC or Air 2 fly more combo for less money
Kapan ya bisa terbangkan drone DJI mini 3..??
Amazing brothers!
How does the RC update the maps? How is LAANC authorization done?
Hi.do you sell smart controller after presentation? or can give discount code for? i want to upgrade my mini2 controller.thanks
Can I fly Mini 3 Pro with the original Smart Controller that came out with Mavic 2 Pro? I have both and thinking of buying mini 3 pro as a backup drone.
Hi There! I have a quetion regarding the SD cards for the mini 3 Pro as ordered one? which would you recommend please for recoding 4k and most reliable? thank you.
So RC-pro can use with mini3? Thx
