Waialea Bay - Dedicated to My Dad 7 of 10 - Island Horizon Videos 1492

When I was a kid,
there were two things that were my favorites.
Top 40 radio and Comic books.
As I said before, my dad was in pest control.
One day my dad came home with a grocery bag or two of comic books.
A warehouse he would spray, had mountains of comic books
that I guess stores would return.
My sister and brother would take the Archie Comic Books,
My younger brother would want the Casper and Richie Rich comics.
And I would take the Superhero comic books that no one else wanted.
My favorite was Spider-man,
This was way before the movies or even the cartoon.
It was the mid-60’s.
I totally identified with Peter Parker.
We had a hallway in our house,
I would climb up with my hands and feet
and be up on the ceiling.
My older brother still talks about it.
I ended up with all the comic books because my siblings
got bored of them, but I never did.
In my teens a bought and traded a couple people I knew,
for their collections.
In my 20’s I got serious and bought up as many old Marvel Comics
that I could find.
When I got divorced and was raising my son in Hawaii,
I sold alot of my old 60’s Spiderman Comics on Ebay.
Getting from 50 to 100 dollars each.
It really helped because I needed the money at the time,
But I still regret it to this day.
I still have a closet full of comic books.
I don’t have any of the comic books my dad brought home,
I replaced most of them with better copies,
because being passed around for years they were pretty beat up.
My dad once told me,
that he had a big collection of comic books as a kid.
One day his mother, without him knowing, threw them in the trash.
Imagine how much those comic books from the 40’s
would be worth today.

What a great story. That was a huge comic book collection. Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories with your dad.
