    I love croton. Love the colors. I bring mine in every fall & put it back out in spring. Also love the common flowering bromliads. Not a fan of most hoya, scindapsis & totally dislike shingling plants. It's a good thing we all like different things or life would be boring. As long as we like the plants we have, all is good. 😊

    I'm gonna defend my plants because you always bash my favorites. Love bromeliads. They're super easy and adaptable. Spiders don't live in them, but tree frogs often lay their tadpoles/eggs in the cups in their native environments. That's super cool.
    I LOVE my rabbit's foot fern. It's one of the few ferns I've kept alive for years. It doesn't care about the dry air, it actually does best with some direct sun. Mine's just started having the feet come out of the pot and I am here for it. Love that plant. The Latin name is Davalia Feejensis (they're from Fiji).
    I LOVE crotons! I don't care if I'm the only one. My Petra is stunning. The pillow texture is so cool. The colors are so wild. They're really not hard like people think as long as you have a sunny spot for them. I get that colors can be a lot, but I think they're stunning.
    and I already went off about the silver bay, so I'll leave that alone. 🤣
    No hate. You're honestly one of my favorite plant tubers and people have different tastes, but damn girl, your plants I don't like videos always get me riled up because it's always some of my favorite plants. 🐰

      Crotons and bromeliads are not ugly but they are annuals to me. They serve their purpose for a month or two then it’s in the trash. Crotons are nice along with harvest decor in front porch but after thanksgiving in the compost bin they go. They are not houseplants in my books.

    Why isn't rabbit's foot fern called tarantula foot fern? Because that's what those "feet" look like. They don't bother me, but I can see how a lot of people find them a bit gross.

    I have some Hoya which I love and some that I don’t. Another fav of mine are Philodendrons. I have lots of different types of Pothos as well.. it’s all a fun hobby for me.. not everyone is going to like all the plants that I have or that you have.. it’s ok cause it’s all just personal preference. 😊

    Tradescantia are lovely in my opinion and I’m more than willing to work with mine because I just think it’s so adorable. I have pruned mine back so much which has made it fuller and I always put the cuttings back in the pot so it’s not so leggy. It grows in a very uniform way and hardly gets brown leaves because I figured out it doesn’t like too much sun but just enough to make it pretty and purple. It was getting a bit leggy so I had to cut it back the other day which gave me enough cuttings for a whole new plant ❤

    Opuntias never get in my house. I had one decades ago, and I got those pesky tiny thorns (glochids) in my fingers - in the kitchen! The Opuntia was sitting two rooms away! Never had those since.

    I don't keep plants long that have leaves that turn yellow or brown & constantly have to be cleaned up to look good. I just don't have time for them. ( and I so wanted to keep loving Nanook tradescantia). Ha. The other plants I can't deal with are ones that hurt me. I will never again own an opuntia or many other mean ass cactus.i do however love most succulents that are friendly to repot. I have kept Hoyas for 40 years and they definitely are my fav plants.

  • @BurningOrchids
    @BurningOrchids 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I dislike cane begonias. They grow stupid. They always get leggy and floppy. I generally don't like any plants that have to be staked on a pole or trained on a board. It's so impractical. You can't keep growing it up a pole forever. Total pain in the ass. Or the shingling plants? What are you gonna do when it gets to the top of the board? Glue another one on it? No thank you. I should be able to put a plant in a pot and it grows. Period.
    I also am so over the dracaena trees. Except for my dragon tree, all the other ones get brown crispy tips and the leaves never fully develop. I thought they were supposed to be easy, but maybe they just need more humidity in my environment, but I'm over them.
    The trick to propagating tradescantia is just stick the cuttings in soil and start watering, You can completely skip the water/spaghnum, etc. with those. They just have to be started over from cuttings like every 6 months and they need really bright light so yeah they're sort of a pain. I do have the deep purple one and keep up with it because the color is just so wild.

    • @jaclynns.jungle
      @jaclynns.jungle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree the cane Begonia are a real pain, but they're pretty so I keep them around, haha! They're easy to chop back too, when they get leggy. They will grow back bushy again eventually. Some plants we find worth the hassle, and others just aren't if you don't like the look of it enough.

    • @BurningOrchids
      @BurningOrchids 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaclynns.jungle Agreed. I think I'm just gonna cut off the straggly parts. I feel the same way about rex begonias and calatheas. They HAVE to be right next to a humidifier in my environment, but they're worth it to me.

    Hi Jaclynn, I agree with you on the bromiliads, the one I got the flower looked like a paddle and I got it because the flower was purple and I tried growing it and it died, my other Bromiliad was the one you showed and it also died, so I will not buy them again. And the Rabbit foot fern I will never buy because it really does look like spiders legs and that creeps me out. I have 6 Tradescantia, and they do grow weird, and are not really easy to propagate, I love the ones I have and keep trying to keep all of them happy. Calathea I call them my diva plants, I do love the ones I have and I have lost a few of them, but I just still try to take care of the ones I have and will more than likely get more. I agree that Fittonia are a diva plant, I only have one and she has struggled but I still really like it. I'm not a fan of cacti that are poky, and not really sure I will ever buy one. I have 3 Aglaonema, and love the ones I have but had the Silver bay and it was not my favorite and so it died. I have never gotten a shingling plant and not really a fan of those. I had 3 Croton and loved the ones I had but they became so difficult to keep alive so I don't know if I will ever get any again. I do have the buy 3 rule, if I get a plant and it dies I might buy it again and if it dies again I will only buy it 3 times after that I am done with that plant forever, lol! Thanks for this great video, sending love and hugs, you are just the sweetest, bye for now. 😂🥰🤗😻💜💜💜

I just started laughing because you said it a hundred times in your videos that you didn't like it. 🤦‍♀️🤣 I do agree with this list! I've tried most of what was on this list and realized they're just not for me. I didn't even like Hoyas but then I went to my brother's house and he had my mother's Crimson Queen and I fell in love. He let me cut a couple pieces off and now I have it growing. My mom passed in 2014. And now thanks to you I have 50 hoyas. I just lost my elliptica, rip. And if you have any sometime I will get one. I agree with ALL of your choices! Tried them all-many multiple times, and learned when to give up. I am a big calathea fan and have somehow learned how to keep all 12 different species of mine thriving. I do agree though, that the ones with pink, like roseopicta, are near impossible to keep happy. I do have a question-why are people so nuts about Hoyas? They are so bland to me. Would love to hear why people love them.

      I didn't understand the Hoya hype either until I finally got myself a Carnosa Krimson Queen and I fell in love. The leaves are just so unique, and if you like a trailing plant, there are some seriously gorgeous options! They are weird sometimes, but they are also really cool sometimes too, especially the blooms! There's so many different Hoya there really is something for everyone! I enjoy how low maintenance they are as well and the cute baby ones are just, well, addicting 😅
      But everyone is different and that's okay!! I like to try out different Genera all the time, so when I finally gave Hoya a shot, it didn't take long before I was hooked! 😊

    Also, I adore tradescantia!!! The purple foliage is just so gorgeous and I love growing them trailing. I also actually find them really easy to propagate just in water if you ever decide to try again!
    I agree that it took me a while to get used to the care, and I had to go through my share of crispy leaves, but I think I have it down now and I love them. I totally get that they’re not for everyone though.

I gotta laugh at the bashing of the easy, common plants when you've spent so much money on these rare ones that all show up dead. Especially if I’ve had one and it died, then I don’t like it. I'm sorry your gloriosum is disappointing for you. From my experience, they are really thirsty and hungry so they grow the best in semi hydro with good nutrient solution. You can also pot it in soil in a self-watering pot. But the terracotta with chunky mix is probably too dry for the poor guy and that's why he can't hold on to more than two leaves at a time. It generally applies to all terrestrial philos (at least the ones I have, something like ten species). In nature they grow on the bottom of the rainforest so you can assume they are used to much more nutrients and water than epiphytic ones. I recommend the blog post "The Philo Philes" by Jay Vannini, he really explains a lot about philodendron nature.

    My saying goes like this: "I never met a plant I didn't like, but plenty don't like me". If I don't have luck with a plant the first time, I will sometimes try it again, two and three times. If I still fail, after all that, then I am not meant to have it in my collection, however, I still appreciate that others can grow it. I even try plants that I don't find aesthetically pleasing because sometimes the act of growing them changes my mind, particularly rescue plants...with mealy bugs. This happened to me with Hoyas. I think that if I were a planty TH-camr, I would title this "Plants That Don't Like Me"; keeps the emotionality out of it. People are invested and do get upset if you don't like their Little Johnny.

    I really like my tradescantia but I may have to give up on them just because they grow sooooo fast, they can get nice and bushy if you keep up with trimming them but at this point I don’t have the will to trim them every 2 weeks 😂 I don’t hate a ton of plants but birkins can just go in the bin lmao. And I actually agree with you on the silver bay, by all accounts I should like it but I just dont 😅 I think it’s something about that specific shade of green next to silver that looks odd to me.

    I really enjoy my crotons, although they do terrible in my home. I keep them on my back patio where they are much happier and give a tropical flare. A plant family I cannot stand ANY species is begonia. I think they are the ugliest things and so needy. Most of this list you have I agree with in part; I think bromeliads and tradescantia look better outdoors, I have tradescantia in my garden beds that does well as a ground cover. As houseplants they are kinda leggy and unattractive. Most philos, monstera and anthurium are not my thing, either. I have 60+ plants and not one from these genera.

    I don’t like the geogenanthus, small leafed Hoya (I struggle w them), airplants and bromeliads (I kill ‘em all), tiny leafed pilea or peperomia, or tradescantia. I can’t stand tiny leaves falling everywhere. I love calathea but I’m not going to buy anymore once the 3 I have die. They need too much water for me, and no circulating air around them. It’s too much.
    I can’t grow croton either but my mother in law had a HUGE 4ft one! It lives on the front porch in late spring til early fall. I bought her a grow light for it in the winter so it won’t drop as many leaves. But she’s the only person I know to ever grow one so big. Lol
