  • Welcome to Real JeRi! In this episode, we explore the excitement surrounding the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Get ready for a grand event filled with new sports, unique venues, and unforgettable moments.
The Paris 2024 Olympics will kick off in less than six months, with a spectacular opening ceremony taking place on boats. Break-dancing will make its Olympic debut, adding a dynamic twist to the games. Over 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will compete in 32 sports and 329 medal events. Following the Olympics, the Paralympics will feature 4,400 athletes from 184 countries participating in 22 sports and 549 medal events.
Paris, having hosted the Games in 1900 and 1924, will become only the second city to host the Olympics three times. The events will take place across 15 Olympic and 11 Paralympic venues, utilizing existing or temporary structures to reduce costs and carbon emissions.
Paris 2024 will introduce a range of exciting sports, including the four debuted in Tokyo: BMX, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing. Break-dancing, originating in New York in the 1970s, will now take center stage. However, karate and baseball have been dropped from the roster. With 329 medal events across 32 sports, there will be plenty of opportunities for athletes to shine.
The opening ceremony will deviate from tradition, as athletes parade on the Seine River, passing through the heart of the city. The ceremony will culminate with the lighting of the Olympic Flame at the Trocadero. The games' mascots, "Les Phryges," are inspired by the red "Phrygian" caps worn during the French Revolution. The Paralympic mascot, Phryge, will have a visible disability, symbolizing inclusivity.
Tickets for the games are available on the Paris 2024 website, with prices starting at 24 euros for Olympic events and 15 euros for Paralympic events. Despite some challenges and concerns, the excitement for the Paris 2024 Olympics is palpable. Los Angeles is set to host the Summer Olympics in 2028, followed by Brisbane in 2032.
