If she was underrated why in the hell is she performing in front of all them white folks? Some folks just throw that underrated word like nothing u do realize that word can just as well minimize her god given gifts
Phyllis sang this wonderful song to me at the Blue note jazz club in NYC upon my special request, one of the greatest moments in my life. Forever in my thoughts.
Did you see the grace she exemplified as she walked out on that stage???!!!???. She was confidence personified ---on stage. I wish she had that same confidence in herself. She was a beautiful woman and is now a beautiful spirit.
Yes. ***** The pain she was harboring was deep. She was not happy with her love life or herself. She wanted to be loved, feel it and experience it...the lasting kind. But she did not lover herself. She was very tall, powerful and in a lot of ways she felt it was a turn off or intimidating... BUT I THOUGHT SHE WAS GORGEOUS. She was beautiful and someone wanted to love her... it was just not in enough time. I miss her.
I just love Phyllis Hyman. There was and never will be anyone like her. Such a unique soulful talent. I pray that she has finally found the peace and happiness that she struggled to find during her time on earth. I miss her…..
She tore this song up!! I swear she is the greatest even in death!! Hands down!! This was an impeccable soul!! Never to grace us again! So sad!! This is timeless!!! This is Music!!
I miss her so much gone to soon.i still play albums !! Love somewhere in lifetime, living in confusion . You could see in the living in confusion the pain and sadness from her soul before she passed away. I won't forget that day in 95 when she passed I was 14 watching video soul I n bet and the news broke. My aunt loved her music to .
Man! That Phyllis Hyman had the greatest, most soulful, powerful delivery of a song than anyone I've seen! I've really come to understand that since I've become "up in age" now. Thank you, Phyllis!...and thank you, God FOR her.

Wish someone would create a duet of her and Luther singing together. Pretty sure there is developed technology to do it. That would sound like two heavenly angels .
I’ll be 33 this year and I must say, she is my vocal inspiration. What a dynamic powerhouse! Most people my age haven’t been blessed enough to come across Ms. Phyllis Hyman. I will be sure to keep her legacy alive by planting her beautiful seeds in the minds and hearts of the children in my family. There will NEVER be another Phyllis Hyman ❤️
I'm here, coming off a post on this performance, on Instagram. I just made a comment, almost similar to yours, about how Phyllis and Luther are at the very very top. Production-wise,they're light years ahead of anyone who qualifies to be called an artist, along with them, and that's a big bonus for them.
All the others pale in comparison. Thank YOU, Phylis. Your singing is truly amazing. Hope next lifetime as human beings, that you continue singing like this and that you finally get the RIGHT people to publicize your talent, promote your songs and once again, they will all pale in comparison.

Always so beautifully dressed. Charming always and sang with so much emotion. Loyal to her fan base too. Really represented Black women so well. So sad when she departed. One in a million.
Cheryl Bandele Phyllis was and is my favorite musical artist. Her voice was so unique and soulful and touched your heart. I remember coming home from work in my car and heard on the radio about her death. I live in Detroit and Detroit LOVED Phyllis. I was so hurt. It was like losing a family member. She is missed, but we still can enjoy her through her music.
It may have already been stated. This was in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his birthday becoming a national holiday. A very apt song and stunning performance. I'm almost certain the background singer on the right is Ullanda McCullough. I did see the original airing, thanks for posting.

Phyllis is immeasurable in her craft. She like others from that era had to work at it and maintain it. There must have been something in the water back then, because a majority of artist of today don't project the image and vocal talents. Most sound flat and can't hold a note.
