    I think the idea behind the 32" saw is LESS BENDING!!!!!!!!

      @redlinetimber  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THIS!!! ..walking logs limbing.. head-up on a swivel, we rarely work on flat ground. Feet and toes out from under logs. Less reaching or bending.. And strong fit loggers SLING big saws as a matter of efficiency, we don't LUG anything around.. thx, for pointing it north.

    Good memories here my dad was a logger in British Columbia he had the same Skidder I always remember him spraying either starting fluid in her to get her going on the cold days! Good to see you guys work safe with two of you working together as my dad was a one man show Faller,Limber,Driver I always thought it was very dangerous as this was the time before cell phones just good old CB radios in your pickup, Great Video Thanks Dale.

      +LittleRVrentals.com - The 440's have some character. They can be super tippy and kinda cold blooded. This one likes to be parked on a slight downhill to keep the injector pump primed, then a little shot of ether and a shake of the steering wheel to relieve hyro pressure and out you go for some real off-roading... just watch those side pulls :)

    We yarded a lot of timeber with both the JD 440 and JD 640 skidders along with a Cat D6C. We also had a couple of Cat wheel loaders - 966C and 966B - both with log forks and top clamps. I ran all of that equipment, set a ton of chokers behind all of that stuff and bumped about 10 million knots over the years. Grew up in a family logging business in Northern Calif, so a lot of this logging footage on TH-cam is nostalgically familiar. :)

      Thanks for sharing a cool story.. "some people are born to it and some are called, I was both" :)

    I inherited the same skidder late last year it needs tires which are impossible to locate , everybody says to change the wheels but not to what and also a new drag line cable . This machine ran with 6 chokers . Really enjoyed your video . I just like to get this one working to do a bit of firewood for my self

    Love the small logging sets more than the bigger ones.

      +Bobby Horn - In these settings, the sound of the forest can sometimes seem louder than the operation itself... and the machines are the sound of a dinner bell to the animals. They come from all around to feast on the abundance of food laying at their feet that was beyond their reach just days before... not a bad view from the office

      +Dan Ryan - Sweet... I've got my dual ported .044 turning 15,000 rpm and singing a sweet tune. Speaking of tuning, I'll be posting the "easy way" to dual port, modify and tune an .044 Magnum. It's pretty much the only saw a guy needs. Thanks :)

    Great video The old 440s series still working today. Music a bit "over powering" of logging sounds, but great video anyhow.

    • @redlinetimber
      @redlinetimber  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Skidderpilot - Thanks for the big thumbs-up... The "mountain mule" is a little beast, he'll take you places most would be to scared to go and the winch can just flip him over with-out a hitch. It's a party with every turn, at every turn :-D ...Then there's that juke-box in my mind thing... all in a days work

      +squawmtn D4G - It never rains under a tin hat... and the sun don't shine under it neither :) ...Somewhere an operator leans out of the cab, looks over his forlorn choker-setter shaking cold and wringing wet and offers, "you look miserable, you wanna call it and go home"... The kid starts to light-up and says "heck yeah"... and receives the time honored reply... "we'll do that at quitting time'

    Apparently there is different definition for hot logging? Term usually means straight to the truck off the landing

    • @redlinetimber
      @redlinetimber  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hot Logging: yarding/skidding out from under the cutter and/or straight to a loading deck(not cold deck)... truck is between rounds, not waiting on turns in the landing (losing money, grumping driver!!).. :)

    A 20 inch bar more than enough for that wood.

    • @sheepdog271
      @sheepdog271 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And get rid of that fancy terminology, your dragging logs to a loading deck end of story. Otherwise pretty cool.

    • @redlinetimber
      @redlinetimber  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, etiquette we must use.. as loggers rarely get called fancy, that leads to dust-ups under the butt-riggin' and/or in the landing.. So, the terms we use in the PNW have been common, passed down and unchanged since steam donkeys... they can be found in old logging books, but rarely online.. good interesting stuff

  • @ticker511
    @ticker511 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I used the same method for 30 yrs. Theres no reason to be lugging a 32" bar around in that little timber. I used a 034 Super with a 16" bar and i had the turn down and limbed. So then i'd grab the mainline an run it out and help hook. I liked to make 4 to 6 turns an hour. I forgot to say my wife ran the skidder. She maintained and ran the skidder for 16 yrs. Over the yrs we ran a C4 Treefarmer, C5-D Treefarmer and a S8 International. The S8 was a high production machine. I;m also a third generation logger
