Very happy memories of John Pertwee as the 3rd Doctor - his character as the Time Lord always displayed kindness and forbearance; such a reassuring voice too.
When Pertwee was cast as the Doctor, the producers were figuring out how to play him that would be different from Patrick Troughton's interpretation. They said, "Why don't you play yourself?" Pertwee said later he responded, "Who's that, then?" He claimed he never really played himself - he always played a character. Kinda like Peter Sellers, who said more than once, "There USED to be a 'me,' but I had him surgically removed!" But Pertwee gave us one of the more unique Doctors, more like Bernard Quatermass, and it worked. But he actually played Worzel Gummidge even longer than he played the Doctor. A remarkable performer, and we still miss his style.
Just a minor point, the clips from ITN News at Ten with Trevor McDonald are ITV and not BBC. It feels like yesterday hard to believe this was 27 years ago. If he had lived another 10 or more years he'd have seen the show return. I do remember he was interviewed when it was announced the Paul McGann version was being made but sadly died before it was broadcast.
He always felt like the guy who would go out of his way to care the most
Jon Pertwee famously HATED the Daleks, and he DIDN'T like Science Fiction!
A truly great Doctor Who, and sadly missed by the fans!
But he loved every second of being in the show and even returned a couple of times
Thanks for uploading this. Sylv’s tribute is lovely.
No problem at all and it really was.
@@Mr.DWHO96Jon will never be forgotten because all his episodes are on DVD
I never met Mr. Pertwee, but like Patrick Troughton he seems like he was quite the gentleman
Met Jon here in Australia back in 1991 at a convention he was absolutely fantastic RIP Jon
The only Doctor I have ever met, as a toddler in the early 80’s at The Town & Country Festival. He was dressed as Worzel Gummidge though 🙂
The fact that the correspondent was called "Colin Baker"...

Interesting how the reporter at the beginning says "One of seven actors to play Doctor Who". This was just over a week after the TV movie
I believe Jon Pertwee past away before the tv movie as there was a dedication to him just before the credits rolled
@@Mr.DWHO96 Yes - the TVM hadn't been broadcast in the UK yet when Jon died.
@@Mr.DWHO96i might watch a 3rd doctor DVD in tribute tonight

I remember watching this in 1996. I was playing the piano when it came on the news.
Remember these news items so well. I was 26. "Colin Baker, News At Ten ..." But not *that* Colin Baker. 🙂
When he said Colin baker, I thought that was nice of him to do the segment but then taken back by the different voice lol.
If Colin Baker (the actor) had died, would Colin Baker (the journalist) have done the report?
Colin Baker was the one who also did Thames News and had that blooper saying he was pissed off after being soaked by rain and was brokenhearted.
He was my first doctor ... and The Best!
Happy 105th birthday to jon
How is the newsreader called Colin baker dear lord

the tone of even the BBCs reporters about Dr.Who is disgusting.
just an ignorant journalist who probably never watched it beyond one or two episodes
Did you record these? Or did you find these somewhere
Because I am SO happy we have these in good (ish) quality. Good for its time
These are from my own recorded collection and one or two from friends who have recorded stuff 🙂
@@Mr.DWHO96 nice 😁
I love how they got Colin Baker to report on the story. Just a shame its a different Colin Baker
guess they forgot assassin and spy who killed 12 people during ww2. inventor of the sonic screwdriver.
I wonder of he would approve of modern darleks?
Colin Baker???? 😂
