Hello Mrs R.K. Another treat today ! What a pleasure ! Observing little Lulu, I can't help but wonder if she might be jealous of the momma's and the chicks . I know it may sound silly ! Hoping she will accept the little ones. Sending hugs your way. Have a lovely day .
Hello Louve, You are right that she and Squeak did act a little jealous when the babies hatched and I also thught maybe they wanted some chicks of their own! I think it was a mix of things that made her get defensive - poor Lulu. Being a mama made Sweet Pea, who had been lower in the pecking order, act a bit braver than Lulu was used to, and Lulu had to put her back in her place! I was thinking maybe Sweet Pea would try to climb up higher in the pecking order after that, but she hasnt so far! Hope you are having a lovely strawberry-filled day!
Its not silly, i reckon you could be right- they are way more complex than it seems initially! Ive started to notice how many everyday sayings come from chickens- hen pecked, pecking order, flock together, being cocky!
Aw, your seramas are at that cute age where they are nearly but not quite adults! 💗💗 So glad you are learning from these videos. I also learned so much from watching others. Hope your little flock are doing well!
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 They are great.I have six henns and one rooster.A funny mix my rooster is ayam serama so he is little 🤣four of my henns I hatched myself one looks like preashes 😍 Two henns are from a friend of mine.I have six different coulors they are so pretty. Om goodness, you have to be so on the ball!-naughty Lulu, desperate not to lose her place, survival the over riding urge, she cant help it.So nice seeing them all bimbling about in the sun.Just gave mine a strand of millet, dont think they got that it was food so had to strip the seeds by hand haha 😁😁🐓🐓🐓⭐⭐⭐
Thanks Jane. Lulu was following those dinosaur instincts of hers 😂 Aw, so cute and funny to hear of your chickens with their strand of millet! Mine were afraid of millet too - the first time I put it out they reacted like it was a snake! 😂😂 Oh the squawks of alarm. I had to strip it for them too, but they soon learned it was very yummy! Oh how they demolish it now. I am sure yours will soon too! 🐔💗
Yes its such a shame they grow so fast. But then again, they are very hard work when they are so tiny. It was weeks before the segulls stopped circling. If I hatch them more regularly, I will definately need to consider an easier set up! 🙂🙂
we had to separate our hens because once one of the hens would go at another hens chicks a big fight between the two hens would happen! i did feel bad for the babies, i dont feel like they should be apart of the pecking order yet! i cant really do anything about the pecking order, thats just how things work with chickens. your hens seem much calmer than mine, my hens would start a big fight if lulu was to attack one of their babies 😂😂. very cute chickens 😁❤️ i appreciate that you keep an eye on them & try to stop lulu from pecking them, hopefully she doesnt get too aggressive with the babies
Wonderful to hear from you. I hope your hens will stop fighting soon. It's great that you have been able to separate them until the chicks are old enough to deal with things. It is the nature of chickens. Lucky they have us to watch out for them! Thanks for watching and I hope your flock is happy again soon!
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 you are welcome! my hens are still trying to figure out whos the boss around here, surprisedly my roosters seem to get along more than my hens do. i dont mind the chickens giving out a few pecks to each other, its normal for them assert their dominance & fight for territory. i always separate my chickens if the pecking is getting too bad, it does upset me when the chickens target one specific chicken.
@@froggiez2095 Yes, I always hear people say that hens tend to squabble more among themselves. Agree about them needing to sort out their own pecking order so long as one hen doesnt get targetted too much. I tend to intercede if I get worried blood might be drawn because you know how chickens like to pick at other chicken's injuries. Hope your flock sorts it all out soon. Glad to hear your roosters are getting along - that is great!
I see that another viewer wondered if Lulu was jealous because she didn’t have babies of her own, but that seems like it might be attributing too much human behavior. It’s an interesting thought. In any case, I’m so glad Defiance is safe from that aggression. Serama drama is definitely addictive!
I think we three were thinking the same thing - I definately noticed an increased level of broody activity in Lulu and Squeak and attempts to mate the other hens from Mr Snuggles right after the chicks hatched. It was as if their instinct was telling them that now was a prime time for hatching some chicks! And yes, this was exactly what I was thinking about when I separated Defiance. I just didnt think she would have made it otherwise - life in the flock is just too busy and full of dramas!
I also like to let them try to sort it out on their own. . I watched for a while. I decided to catch them before it got worse. They can make each other bleed so easily with their beaks and I prefer for that not to happen.
Hi Elvie, Aw! I know what you mean. But the reason Lulu was so defensive of her position in the pecking order was that she was bottom of the pecking oorder for so long and she felt she needed to protect herself. Poor little Lulu. But yes, it does seem unfair when baby chicks are invovlved. luckily I kept a close eye on them and kept them separated when I wasnt around, and they all got along again eventually.
That mean one will make a great meal 😅
Your voice is so calm and sweet. I just love watching these videos!

Please stay lulu away from the babies.
Not to worry - I made sure to only put them out when I was there. They tended to stay away from each other but only came together for treats/food.
