Lost my wife, the mother of my children to Melanoma Cancer... "The Dance" lifted me out of the despair of loosing my beautiful blue eyed blond Cowgirl from Cow Town. My "Yellow Rose of Texas".
Hang in there buddy. Our memories keep them alive.
This was our wedding song, my wife loved Garth, in Sept of 2015 she was diagnosed with cancer. 3 months later Nov. 23rd she passed away. I sang this to her that morning, every year on the 23rd I sit and play this on guitar and sing.
This song reminds me of my wife who died of cancer in 2010. 20 years of marriage, widowed at 40. I loved every minute of it.
One hundred percent worth it. I'm sorry for your loss brother.
(Chuckle) My first wife died in 2013. I loved that woman more than I loved myself; but it was 23 years of a wild up and down roller coaster ride. I certainly could have missed the pain. But then I would have missed the dance. Thank you, Sivi.
I had this song played at my husband's funeral. Married 23 years, 6 babies, he died at age 45. I was 41.
@@betsybabf748 I’m sorry for your loss. 45 is way too early.
Lost my wife 23 years ago.
She was only 47 when she passed away
This song came out shortly after my first husband passed away, I could have missed the pain but I wouldn't have our daughter, my daughter is my Dance. I saw Garth in 2016, had a sign that said my daughter is my Dance, while Garth sang "The Dance" he read my sign, pointed at me, held his hands up in the air like he was holding a sign, then put his hands on his heart for me. Best experience at a concert EVER!!
I'm sorry for your loss. Yes, Garth truly cares about his fans! I'm glad he acknowledged your sign, and let you know, personally, that he cares. That is special! 🙏
@@staciemoisa4884 thank you, yes he truly cares, that's why he's #1.
Dear, reading this, literally, brought tears to my eyes. Love to you.
@@stevenbentley310 thank you.
@@mattbecham597 no, I'm married to my second husband.
He's so amazing. "Standing Outside The Fire" "We Shall Be Free" "If Tomorrow Never Comes" "Shameless" "The Change" "Unanswered Prayers" "The River" I could sit here and list every song he has ever released as suggestions.
Standing outside the fire definitely needs to be the official music video it helps tell the story so much better
The Change gets me every time, especially when watching the OKC Bombing pics.
I have seen him 9 times in concert in love in Ireland. I have the lyrics of this tattoo on my ribs. There is not a song by him that you can go wrong with.
@@christyeckert3115 I would love to see him in concert.
@@greeneyelove2003 even at his age he puts on the best concert I've ever been to. It's worth every dime and hour I spent getting there. You definitely wouldn't regret going.
"The Dance" is a metaphor for life. "The Pain" are all of the struggles a person has while "Dancing". You probably would've understood that if you had watched the amazingly touching video that Garth put with this.
True, but official Garth Brooks videos always get blocked. And official Chris Gaines videos always get blocked.
The power of any song is that everyone will interpret it differently because it will affect everyone in an individual way. I don't think Britt needed to watch the video to be able to understand what this song meant to her.
@@chicochi3 Not when the filter is applied!!!!
@@tkhorn5087 I didn't watch completely to the end. But, right after the song was over, she claimed that "the meaning" of the song was.... The official video starts out with Garth saying that he's heard many different ideas as to what this song means. He lists a few short ones that he has read. He agrees that many people will find different meanings. Then he gives his meaning of the song right before the song and video begin. As I stated, the video is very touching, although it mostly consists of deceased people that meant a lot to Garth, and most should have a lot of meaning to everyone.
@@darrinlindsey my guess is she is young enough she wouldn't recognize most (or all) of the people in the video - and likely not have the emotional attachment to them that old folks like me do even if she did - but it would have been interesting to see 🙂
Twenty-six years and I still have a hard time listening to this song. It was played at the funeral for my first grandchild (he only lived 15 days). Garth Brooks put all of our feelings to music.
I'm so sorry to hear of your devastating loss. Yes, this song used to make me think of past relationships, but has lately hit me differently after the losses in my family (3 last year). It takes on a new meaning, and is still the perfect message that pulls at the heartstrings. Sending (((hugs))) and prayers to you and your family. 🙏🙏
Me, too. For personal reasons.
So sorry for you and ur family.😢
Oh my gosh....this is my story too. Our grandson lived 7 weeks and I only got to hold him once because they lived in another state. I thank God everyday for that one time and the bond I felt with him. This song is hard to listen to for sure.
I've seen him live a few times, and yes, he is better live
Garth has said many times on record, when he dies, this is the song he wants played at his funeral.
The music video for it is heart wrenching but brilliant!
Garth was my very first crush. I had a tape of his This Is Garth special and I wore that thing out as a 7-year-old. He and Vince Gill were my guys.
I recently lost my husband to a heart attack. This song touches my heart so because even though I'm hurt now, I had 24 beautiful years of marriage with a wonderful man. I desperately miss his laugh, he so loved life. He was a true life partner and we shared everything. I could've missed the pain, but I would have missed the dance and I'm grateful for the dance.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending thoughts and prayers. This song is just so perfectly written. 🙏🙏
My brother asked to have this played at his funeral. He was 39 when he died. He had his 1st open heart surgery. A brain aneurysm in his 20's that ruptured. More open heart surgeries. Never once did he stop living his life. Never stopped joking, laughing, singing and being there for me. I miss him everyday.
This song has touched so many people so deeply. You should watch one of the live versions from when he did his UK tour. He would go out and sit in the middle of the audience, and they would sing the song with him. It's amazing.
On a personal note, I usually don't share like this on social media, but I feel like someone needs to hear this. This song came out when my son was only a few years old. When he was 4 he got Rocky mountain spotted fever. We came very close to losing him. Life flight to children's, having to resuscitate him several times, five weeks in the hospital, wide spread brain damage. Well fair to say there is far more but you get how dire it was.
We made it through. His life after was never easy. He struggled in school and life, but never quit. At age 12 he found music. He learned to play the Bass guitar, along with 9 other instruments, he learned poetry and won contests, he earned his black belt in taekwondo, and he earned his eagle scout. After highschool he toured with several bands, and has been in music videos ECT.
I asked him once if he could go back and change being sick and all the pain and struggle he went threw. He told me no, because he is happy with who he is now, he loves his music, he is proud of what he has accomplished, and if he changed that one thing he wouldn't have become who he is, he may never had found his love for music.
Sorry for the long post. Just thought someone might need to hear that right now.
"What a real thing that song was." You nailed it, Britt. It touches my heart every time I hear it.
I lost the love of my life 7 years ago to cancer. As hard as the loss hits, I would NEVER give up the time we had together. She made me a stronger, better man and gave me the sweetest memories.
You should also react to Skylark, "Wildflower". It is close to the story of her life and was played at her service.
If tomorrow never comes and Unanswered Prayers are a few of my Garth favorites!
The Dance is life.
This song is the last song I danced with my girlfriend 2 days before she passed. Every time I hear this song I go back to that night in my memories.
Garth live is awesome.
Garth has the greatest live shows !
Nice reaction !
May Gods Blessings be with you !
My son saw his concert last year in Baton Rouge and said it was the BEST concert he had ever seen!!
Also - when he sang “Calling Baton Rouge” you could here him and the crowd singing miles away from the stadium! ❤
I remember the first time I saw him in concert....he came out on stage and said, "If you came to hear the music, you came for the wrong reason...you can buy the album if you want to hear the music. This is an experience...I hope you enjoy it." Since then I have seen him 8 more times live. Great reaction as usual.
Garth Brooks is one of the best live performers of our generation.
I was at his concert in dublin last September it was such a magnificent night
Along the lines of The Dance is a song called Unanswered Prayers. Loves me some Garth. Fantastic job as usual Britt.
thank you so much!
Yes!! Anything Garth in Concert Live would be the best 1’s to react too!!!
I am no fan of country but Garth Brooks is one of my favorites. His songs are from the heart
I know you said you aren't a fan of country, but perhaps you should check out Gary Allan. I would recommend "Best I Ever Had", which is a cover of Vertical Horizon's version which isn't country, and then "Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)", "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" and lastly, because I kinda think you might like it, "Smoke Rings In The Dark". Gary also did covers of Del Shannon's "Runaway" and Tom Petty's "Breakdown" that is pretty incredible.
One of my favorites. Covered it years ago and wrote a love poem to speak over the long outro. Wish I could find it. It brought many tears.
this song was played at my little brothers funeral and will always make me cry and forever hold that special place in my heart
This is Garth Brooks personal favorite song. He ends every concert he does with it. Its nearly his most popular but still quite a ways off from the popularity of Friends in Low Places.
Two facts I love to point out. 1.) Garth would tell venues to NOT sell tickets to the front row. Especially if the venue charged seat pricing as most do instead of flat admission. They would agree because.....hes Garth effing Brooks..... then at the beginning of the show, he would tell all the people in the back row to come fill the front row.
2) He did 9 concerts in 9 m
nights in Kansas City. This after not touring for over a decade as his kids grew up. To raise donations for wildfires that were insane that year. He sold out all 9 concerts with 10s of thousands of attendees....AND tickets to movie theaters broadcasting it live all over the country on the final night, in under 30 FRIGGIN MINUTES.
Nobody concerts like Garth......nobody.
need to see the video to it it'll really make you cry
I saw Tony Arata on a TV interview once. He wrote this song when he and his wife were living in a small rented house outside of Nashville. He wrote it in a small laundry room. He tried to sell the song but got no takers He and Garth were doing the same open mics and neither he nor Garth were famous at the time. Garth told him that if he ever recorded an album that that song would be on it. He did and it was. Garth knew that it was a very special song. So do the rest of us. I still remember the first time I heard it. Thanks for playing it.
Sweetheart, you don't have to worry, I cry every time I hear that song, cause I UNDERSTAND it and have LIVED it and, I would not have ever wished it never happened ... not 1 time.
lyrically one of the best songs ever written.
You should listen to Garth Brooks song, The River, Its a great song !!
I sat my 3 kids down when they were teenagers and told them what they meant to me. Then I played them this song because I didn't want them to hear it at my funeral only. We cried and hugged. They've all moved out and have family and life of their own. But, every now and then, when we talk or text each other we end it with, we will always have the Dance.
Sux that Garth pulls his music from TH-cam but his music is amazing! My rockin’ favorites from Garth are That Summer; Standing Outside the Fire; Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up); Callin’ Baton Rouge; Rodeo; and Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House. My emotional favorites of his are If Tomorrow Never Comes; Unanswered Prayers; Wolves; What She’s Doing Now; The River; Learning to Live Again; That Ol’ Wind; Somewhere Other Than The Night; Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old); The Dance; She’s Every Woman; and In Lonesome Dove. But his most powerful songs are Mom; The Thunder Rolls; The Night I Called The Old Man Out; We Shall Be Free; and The Change.
I believe this song relates to everyone in different ways. It sure hit home to me and I've loved this song since it came out.
very true!
@@brittreacts Please do Two Black Cadillacs by Carrie Underwood. ❤
I danced with my teenage love for 23 years. Going through a mid-life crisis, she left. That was in 2000 after four children raised together to adulthood. Today, I cannot think of that day without a pain that I never know how I get past without outright dieing. But I endure that pain, somehow stay alive, but cherish our 23 years long dance.
The dude got 9 diamond records, thats insane
Girl! When I was 19 I lost my 18 year old best friend to cancer. This song was very popular then and he and I used to listen to it. I still cry when I hear it.
4:22 I’ve seen him live three times since I was 14, and he’s just amazing every single time. I’m 42 now and I saw him just last year. He NEVER gets old or tired or worse in his concerts. He’s one of the best performers ever.
He has said and most agree that it took years for him to put out a song that rivals " The Dance" and that's the song Mom ... You need tissue when you hear that song especially as a mom.
Garth Brooks’ first album (which had this song on it) was a masterpiece.
“If Tomorrow Never Comes” which was also on that album is worth checking out.
"Unanswered Prayers" from No Fences is also in this vein and worth checking out.
MOST DEFINITELY...
We just need a live reaction to that whole album there isn't a bad song on it
He's Great !!!!!!!!! He's why I like country.
Not only is Garth an amazing singer but also an amazing husband and father he left touring to be at home and raise his children
You soooo need to react to Garth Brooks song called "MOM".... have tissue ready but what a beautiful song....Oh and I love your reactions.
I recommend you watch the original official video of this song. It's a different take on the actual intent of the lyrics but it's actually more moving. It was his idea to do that and it was wonderful.
Brit.. Love your reactions:) you absolutely have to watch his in Concert live version with the Crowd !!!
Yes, please watch his live shows. He is my absolute favorite artist in any genre. Maybe that's why I have seen him in concert 4 times and will do it again if at all possible.
"'Tis better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all." - Tennyson
I love your reactions. A very good song from Garth is "If Tomorrow Never Comes". You will love it.
Tony Arata is a fantastic songwriter. Garth said that he was floored the first time he heard him play it at The Bluebird in Nashville.
I saw him in concert way back in 91 when he was about to explode and then every year till he "retired" in 2001. In total I saw him 14 times. Everytime it was an awesome experience. He is just amazing.
I played this song for my senior mass, the night before our graduation. We all went to school together since we were 3-18 years old. The Dance is about the entire experience, not just a literal dance.
He is absolutely amazing. Saw him in concert and no words to explain how magical it was
The studio version has piano at first of it
Hands down one of the most tragically beautiful songs ever written
You should do Garth's song Mom,. It's about a talk between God and child! Beautiful song❤️❤️
GARTH ALWAYS FEELS WHAT HE IS "SINGING"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife and I danced to this song in her driveway after we got engaged, we married in 92, she gave birth to three lovely children. She passed in 2010 to cancer. Enjoy those few and precious moments you have. Our time is short
what a beautiful life y’all must have had together. I’m sorry for your loss.
@@brittreacts Thank you. I thoroughly enjoy your videos.
You really need to watch the documentary about him how about him you will really like it you should watch it and react too it
The dance was written by Tony Arata who has written a bunch of Country hits. The only reason I'm mentioning this is he is from where I live in Savannah, Ga. He's a really cool laid back guy and an amazing writer.
I always like to mention the actual songwriters. They deserve a lot more credit than they get. And I live in Garth Brooks country, two hours from his hometown of Tulsa, OK. But the songwriters deserve credit for what they do.
@@chicochi3 agree 100% I just happen to know this one. 😁
Truth❤👍
I knew you'd need the concealer for this one. Always makes me tear up.
Thanks for keeping great music alive!
thanks for watching!
If Tomorrow Never Comes and To Make You Feel My Love are two of THE BEST!!❤
I love this song. Great reaction, too. Please consider reacting to his song "Mom". It is so touching and beautiful.
I cry every time I hear this song. Of course I'm older and have a lot more experience that falls into this song.
You can't help but fall in love with this beautiful soul!!!
This has been my go-to comfort song for all kinds of loss and grief in my life for the last 30 years. It applies to everything good that ends and leaves you heartbroken. Garth .... ❤
This will be played at my funeral for my wife, after 35 years and all we've been through, "I'm glad I didn't miss the dance "!
This song is and will always be a song that gets me every time. It does say it all. I want this played at my celebration of life service. Great Reaction Britt.
thank you so much !!! Have the day you deserve !
@@brittreacts Thank You So Much. I truly do love your reactions. You are definitely the most energetic, funny, and happy Reactor that I watch. You are also a very beautiful young Lady and I love that you admit that you are a Christian and at the same time you'll talk about the panty dropping club. Lmao 🤣🤣🤣
Such a hauntingly beautiful love song. Better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all.
The version he sang in concert to that cancer patient or w.e makes me cry like a baby
This song reminds me of my gammy! I miss her so much!!!! We lost her 10 almost 11 years ago and it feels like yesterday!
Garth Brooks is the best showman of live concerts I’ve ever attended! The man knows his crowd.
I saw Garth when he came out of retirement. But OMG he is awesome in concert. I knew all his songs and I still cried.
Garth Brooks made so many too country hits he was an legend in country music thank you for reacting too this you are so awesome on your youtube channel love it.❤️👍
I had this played at my Mom's funeral.
Seen Garth in concert a few years back and his voice is just as amazing live. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. Great reaction!! 🙂
That's a good sample of country's mantra 3 chords and the truth. His wife Trisha Yearwood sings too.Her song shes in love with the boy is good.
Garth does amazing concerts. I’ve seen him live a few times and several televised concerts and damn, he DOES not disappoint. He puts a lot of energy and fun into his shows. Studio recordings or live performances, he doesn’t miss.
Always love me some Garth, as a fellow Okie! My grandfather died May 3, 1995 and was laid to rest on the 5th. My grandmother had this song played as well as George Jones He Stopped Loving Her Today. What made it harder for me is that after the graveside services I had to rush home to get dressed for my senior prom. Then about two hours in, the piano that starts this song hit. I collapsed it was very hard to deal with I still to this day get choked up when this song plays.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
I've seen him in concert several times and he is better in person. Amazing performer
What is this salty discharge coming from my eyes? The pure idea that if you knew heartache was coming down the road you would change to avoid it but in the process miss out on the amazing moments in between.....🤯
This song brings me back. As a woman in my 40's and more mature, this is how I feel about those high school relationships. We all thought we'd die, with those hard breakups. But, now, we can look back and smile, remembering the school dances and handholding. Not the heartbreak of the crush.
This was said to be Garth's mother's favorite song.
I've seen him live twice, back in 1994 and 2016 (or so). He is an unbelievable stage performer. I will say he is the best live act I have seen for a broad audience, so good live.
If you want a fun one of him, do Ain’t Going Down til the Sun comes up where he’s harnessed and flies around the stadium.
the two most beautiful voices ever Elvis and Garth period
Been listening to garth 20 year's or longer this man voice is beautiful. That song was a hit on the carts for like 16 weeks straight as number 1 awesome.
Oh man....this song was THE song at my middle school dance back in the 90s....I can't remember what I had for dinner last week...but hearing this song I can still smell the perfume of the crush I was dancing with like she is standing right behind me...
My brother and I had great brotherly love when we were very young. As we aged that took a terrible turn that we never resolved. He died in a horrible car crash at 18 years old. This song brings sad emotions every time I hear it. Even though we never were the same, I'm glad we had the dance.
Bittersweet. The Dance became our favorite song when it came out in 1989. I never dreamed how prophetic it would be. I lost my wonderful wife of 33 years when she was 57. Of course I wouldn't have given up that Dance.
It's been over four years, but I still tear up everytime I hear that song
This man was at the very top of his prime. Not just a number one country artist, he was topping the charts for all music, the first and one of the only country stars to do so. He almost single handedly grew the number of pepole that listened to country. All this and he retired early so he could raise his daughters. Of course they became adults and he came out of retirement thankfully. Oh but the music and performances we missed out on, but he is as great a father as he is a performer.
This is my favorite Garth song. I was lucky enough to see this live in Las Vegas last year. It was amazing. The whole show was incredible.
I never really liked country music until I heard him sing Billy Joel's "Shameless" ...been fan of his ever since.
Garth Brooks is truly a modern day Legend. I am pretty this was his fourth song ever released. This song was iconic for sure.
The official video is so good you must see it...Next please..Unanswered Prayers..I enjoy your reactions!
One of the best songs ever written and sung by maybe the greatest performer of all time.
Saw him in concert last summer! What a show man! ❤❤
He’s amazing live, definitely
