@@Angremaan I think longevity is important since Rocket League is a volatile game. Any player can theoretically win on their day, so being at the top for a long time shows insane consistency. If longevity wasn't considered, someone like Lachinio who won a major but only dominated for a really short time, would have a higher goat score than someone like Jknaps who has never won a major but has been consistent for years. In reality, most people probably have Lachinio way lower than Jknaps (Maybe not even on the list).
i’ve been saying jstn has been the best of all time for so long but people just don’t rate him that highly because of the long break he took from the game, i definitely think there is a lot missing from the calculations since you’d almost need to account for singular games and scores to rate a player but this guy would need a supercomputer to properly figure it all out, man already put a lot of effort to make this great video though this was entertaining to watch
Squishy got me in the mindset to play the game the way i do today. Hes my personal favorite for a lot of reasons. Rizzo was my first rocket league player i really followed just for the content and pure enjoyment. That being said i cant disagree.
I believe a longer term project where you factor all international LAN events is worth the ambition. Some of these players dominated outside of RLCS at events like DreamHack, ELEAGUE, NARLI, GAMERS8, and all others. This would immediately effect Chausette45, ViolentPanda and Turbo, MuffinMen, Jknaps, shoot even Retals would be on this list.
This must had took you hours , I respect the placements of players . I somewhat agree with them . If Zen had played longer , he would had made top 3 in my opinion . I don't blame you for putting him at 4th .
I don't understand how you have the most memorable moment as a simple aerial shot. Daniel half flipped into an aerial carry getting over one of his opponents, then hitting a flip reset over the last two defenders in the net. Oh yeah and that was all with 40 boost while curving the ball in an rlcs match...
This list is as of the 2nd open qual. Daniel’s shot happened in the 3rd, so it doesn’t count. Also, calling JSTN’s shot a “simple aerial?” Bro… you just don’t know ball.
I‘d love to see the revamped version of this that you‘ll do before worlds actually being showed at worlds - I never saw a vid about ranking players in rl that fcking good, great job :)
The fk disrespect is insane.... I understand That he doesn't have nearly as many accolades as some of the players lower on the tier list. But in terms of individual statistics, there is a reason why hes had the highest octane rating for nine splits in a row.
exactly, he has always been in the conversation of best in the world DESPITE not having lan wins like almost all of the other 'best players in the world'
Even though I love the work done here, I would never use "stats" or "moments" to rank who's the best player. It takes more subjective opinion than objective (without being biased) in order to achieve the goal to know who's the GOAT. So I right after saying this I would like to share my categories to be ranked: 1. Gamesense (more important than mechanics in my opinion). 2. Mechanics 3. Impact (on a team, given their role on that team) 4. Mentallity (strong, positive, nontoxic...) 5. Longevity And something really important is to understand when did each one of the players competed. Kronovi was the goat at the start, obviously all the games improve mechanically so nowadays players will be better there. But those that are able to keep being at a high level throughout the years with all the meta and mechanic improvements, those to me sre the real goats.
Great video but the 1v1 part oKhalid should be number 1 or tide with Fairy, he was the best player for like 3 years and even nowadays he still considered a top 15 player, his longevity it’s Impressive. 🐐
thans for doing all this research but sorry i dont look at numbers or statistics I just yell squishymuffinz everytime i score a sick goal and thats my goat meter
One thing, I think we should be aware of, and which your list also seems to account somewhat for is the value of lan wins. In the open era, lan wins are MUCH harder to achieve imo - because of how many matches one has to play before even reaching them in the first place. So when people rank Turbo or Violentpanda high, they fail to realize how few games they realistically had to play and win to get to the lan and to win the lan itself. I would rank legacy RLCS lans like maybe at most 1,5 majors now, but realistically at like 1 major now, maybe even less, despite the outrage it gathers. Maybe one could take the amount of games played to reach a legacy lan and to win it, then compare it to a current open era major with regionals/qualifying matches, and then 'power rank' the wins accordingly? I know the 'title' of world champion means something, but I'd argue the consistency needed back then was still way less than now, and that's why it's fitting to have people like MM, Vatira and Zen much higher on these lists in general
I think players like Jstn, Squishy, and Gimmick (probably perhaps others) were further ahead of everyone else back in their primes than Zen is compared to modern players.
I think if youre talking GOAT, (Of all time) longevity has to have a massive impact.. No one would count Jordan as the GOAT if he only played one season, no matter how good that one season was.. So for Zen, he's likely to become the GOAT, but he has way to little time in the league as of now.. It COULD be a flash in the pan (likely isnt, but its statistcly possible).. A statistic analasys on something normally so emotional-based is always a challenge
Suggestion regarding your formula at 3:56: I wouldn't base the percentiles on the players' rank on your list but rather on the actual stat: Percentile = player's stat / highest stat in category This formula is easier and would also make your ranking more realistic. btw it'd help a little bit at fixing the "Turbopolsa-Issue" too as he'd still get 1% for his four wins at LAN-events while all the ones with only two wins would only get 0.5% instead of 0.921% for example. Maybe there is a reason why you didn't do it this way that I haven't thought of though..
That is a really good idea. The only problem is that at the time that I was working on this, I had ABSOLUTELY NO GODDAMN CLUE how to use Excel or Google Sheets, so doing it that way would take too much time for me to manually input it into my calculator and then manually type it out.
Truly can’t believe you left CJCJ, Ferra and al0t off the list but this is incredibly well done and I applaud the work you put 🤝🏼 would love some more content like this
You said you're planning to do this again -- getting some sort of web scraper set up to avoid having to manually enter all the data will massively speed up the process, Idk if it's really feasable but I'd even offer to write it for you, its probably only a day or two of unfocused work, and then (as long as the data source doesn't significantly change) you'd be able to reuse it whenever you want to make an updated video.
My personal Goat is turbo, he beat everyone else that people consider high on the GOAT lists. Kaydop twice, Jstn once and when NRG won their worlds Turbo was there. I think this list is pretty accurate other than a few players who imo play beyond the stats. Like Turbo, some Kaydop. Can't wait for the list before worlds! great video!
true. I still think Jstn is the GOAT js by looking at his rlrs status to begin with he carried that team to qualify to rlcs and when he left that team went 0-7😂 Then when he joined NRG he brought them to a worlds final. While having fire in his team not tryna disrespect. Also beat the dynasty as a rookie
@brizzain7618 well before the s5 "grand finals", they faced off dig (dynasty trio) in the upper bracket and managed to beat them. I think that's what he's saying.
INCREDIBLE VIDEO (apart from 21:25😵💫)!! Got me choked up (not sure why🥹)! As a casual player I only knew about 15-20 of these names (like Garret, Turbo and Squishy). Still, EVEN I know the legendary status of Jstn! Great to see him on top! Thanks for ALL your work! And to your roommate too! Side note: places 2-5 are ALL French! What's in the water over there?!?
hey your video was great i loved watching it continue like that its so cool, i think maybe you can include the fact that the mechanic werent the same now and at the start of e sport rocket league
Mechanical skill should be reflected in shots, goals, saves, and to a lesser extent assists, centres and clears. Also boost used, average speed, distance traveled, number of touches on the ball. It could be measured more specifically if someone was willing to sit through all notable RLCS games, but that's brutal and not easily obtained information. Maybe others here could contribute objective measures of mechanics you can easily obtain data on?
Love the video. I think if you do this again i would somehow divide LAN categories Major and World Championship. Majors are not around that long and they take away from the accomplishment of winnig one or multiple World Championships. Turbo, Kaydop and Violentpanda would probably have also won multiple Majors if they were a thing back then. And after all every players Dream is winning a World Championship so its even more important to be Clutch when it matters most. I so think Justin is a good and well deserved number 1 though.
Only problem i have with this video is Jstn being in the top 10 for 1v1. Kaydop and Ahmad were actual 1v1 showmatchers for a bit. And having Vatira at 9 and Zen at 11 in your personal top 30 is criminal
Love the concept, but a couple of tweaks for execution: If we want to use 1v1 in our argument, Okhalid's ranking is very low. His dominance cannot be overstated - he became the best international player before MENA had any quality competition. Furthermore, he went undefeated in SM1, EU and NA, and had an undefeated record of showmatches rivaling Zen's - note: Zen never won a 1v1 tournament. A year later, he almost went undefeated in SM2, only losing to Joreuz in game 7 in one of the greatest series of all time. Unlike Zen, who was basically spamming mechanics to scrape by his opponents like Daniel, Joreuz, and losing to Rw9, Okhalid controlled every aspect of the field, from kickoff to goal, without a single flip reset or double touch, and rarely showed any signs of weakness. Mechanical Advancement is a fun stat, but it isn't very practical. Consider the GOATs of other sports - Basketball: MJ, American Football: Tom Brady, Inter. Football: Messi, Tennis: Djokovic. None of these players are reinventing the sport; rather, they perfected it through dominance and winning. Inter-region stats > Intra-region stats. I am a MENA supporter, but to compare Kiileerrz's stats to, say, Exotiik in EU, is a bit unfair, as EU simply does not give freebie games in their regionals. Maybe toss a region buffer or even a beta that correlates, say, a grand-finals matchup for MENA or SAM to a EU match. Just some thoughts. BIG PROBLEM with your methods: The recency bias (just hear me out, it's about the statistical modeling skew) Statistics change over time. As the game has progressed, the mechanics evolved to the point where players no longer just smack a wall clear into the ceiling. There are a lot more shots, passes, and ball control, contributing to more saves. Over time, goals per game remained about constant, but the saves per game skyrocketed. That's why for the core stats page, MonkeyMoon farms everyone, but also notice how it's a bunch of modern-day 3rd men and MENA players (super aggressive region). Preferably, raw stats are limited in usage, but we can also adjust this by calculating a current time frame average of all concurrent players, then statistically distributing the player's numbers across the average to build a representation of how much more statistical advantage one player had over that current era. Then, combine that player's statistical placements across his career season by season to find the overall statistical advantage, and then compare to other players.
Great video but the 1v1 part kinda got me cos relative to the competition it should be a combination of fairy scrub khalid joreuz and jack yet jack nor joreuz was there
Amazing, although id definitely put Turbo into no1 objectively for winning 4 Lan events, Vatira id say is chasing close behind now, Jstn for sure is Top 3 though but for me not no1 but much love
really cool and well put together video, great job! I disagree with some of the criteria and the valuation of it, but that's something everyone disagrees on. also rise not in the most clutch players is absolutely criminal you deserve jailtime for that
you should have weighted championships wins/placements higher than major wins/placements. The world championships is the apex of RLCS. It should have more value than majors since we are determining greatness.

- The only one winning the World Championship back to back to back (Season 3, 4, 5)
- The only one winning a World Championship with 2 Regions (EU: Northern Gaming, Gale Force Esports, Dignitas NA: NRG)
- The only one winning a World Championship as a substitute (Season 3)
Watching this I though you had probably like 500K to 1M
HOW DO YOU HAVE UNDER 2.5K!!!
Dude i just overlooked your channel, how you went from weekly gameplays to suddenly dropping this masterpiece of research and editing
People don’t understand how good first killer is. It’s crazy how underrated he is while outperforming everyone in na
I'd love to see a video like this for disc golf!
Never really thought about that, I might give it a shot at some point!
The only thing keeping Zen from #1 is his longevity of 0.4…😢
yeah i think thats bs, cuz longevity shouldnt make such a difference on your score.. He deserves atleast 2nd place
@@Angremaan I agree completely
@@Angremaan I think longevity is important since Rocket League is a volatile game. Any player can theoretically win on their day, so being at the top for a long time shows insane consistency. If longevity wasn't considered, someone like Lachinio who won a major but only dominated for a really short time, would have a higher goat score than someone like Jknaps who has never won a major but has been consistent for years. In reality, most people probably have Lachinio way lower than Jknaps (Maybe not even on the list).
@@zap9044hey, lachinio won worlds and jknaps HAS won a major
Also zen got buffed on other categories because of his short career so it makes up for it
i’ve been saying jstn has been the best of all time for so long but people just don’t rate him that highly because of the long break he took from the game, i definitely think there is a lot missing from the calculations since you’d almost need to account for singular games and scores to rate a player but this guy would need a supercomputer to properly figure it all out, man already put a lot of effort to make this great video though this was entertaining to watch
How the teacher says you’ll use math in the future:
I’m just happy you mentioned al0t in this video at all. Bro was hitting zen shots in 2017
Squishy got me in the mindset to play the game the way i do today.
Yeah, that’s what I’m gonna try to do next time. I couldn’t do that this time because I also have classes going on, so it’s a bit more difficult to do
This must had took you hours , I respect the placements of players .
Although jstn lost that lan, just the tension, the atmosphere, what was on the line. I’m sure other pros would say that it was a more iconic goal.
I know people who don’t even watch rlcs and they know that shot lmao
This list is as of the 2nd open qual. Daniel’s shot happened in the 3rd, so it doesn’t count. Also, calling JSTN’s shot a “simple aerial?” Bro… you just don’t know ball.
Excellent work enjoyed watching it all ! Imo Zen and Vatira will go far upper pretty soon :) Ty for the vid
2:26 NAH showing rizzo while saying eary retirement is WILD
Also, I got that clip from one of the retirement sketches lol
I‘d love to see the revamped version of this that you‘ll do before worlds actually being showed at worlds - I never saw a vid about ranking players in rl that fcking good, great job :)
The fk disrespect is insane....
I understand That he doesn't have nearly as many accolades as some of the players lower on the tier list.
But in terms of individual statistics, there is a reason why hes had the highest octane rating for nine splits in a row.
exactly, he has always been in the conversation of best in the world DESPITE not having lan wins like almost all of the other 'best players in the world'
Seiko can’t be that low, he won worlds and just won a major on 2 different orgs. One of those orgs were extremely underrated as well
As stated, this is only relevant as of the 2nd open qualifier. That major win doesn’t count here.
Even though I love the work done here, I would never use "stats" or "moments" to rank who's the best player. It takes more subjective opinion than objective (without being biased) in order to achieve the goal to know who's the GOAT.
So I right after saying this I would like to share my categories to be ranked:
1. Gamesense (more important than mechanics in my opinion).
2. Mechanics
3. Impact (on a team, given their role on that team)
4. Mentallity (strong, positive, nontoxic...)
5. Longevity
And something really important is to understand when did each one of the players competed. Kronovi was the goat at the start, obviously all the games improve mechanically so nowadays players will be better there. But those that are able to keep being at a high level throughout the years with all the meta and mechanic improvements, those to me sre the real goats.
well Kaydop and Turbo are the Goats, I think everyone knows that. But still enjoyed the video very much, thank you.
hella underrated video, probably because it's your first rocket league video(from what I've seen scrolling through your channel)
Great video but the 1v1 part oKhalid should be number 1 or tide with Fairy, he was the best player for like 3 years and even nowadays he still considered a top 15 player, his longevity it’s Impressive. 🐐
Great video!!! This needs more attention!!!
thans for doing all this research but sorry i dont look at numbers or statistics I just yell squishymuffinz everytime i score a sick goal and thats my goat meter
I personally love jimmy high roller and think you nailed his style. Can’t wait for the next edition!
Good video, keep it up sunless
U gotta include Torsos man. He has been around for so long and is tied with JKnaps for most LAN appearances. Great video nonetheless
This was too much work for such a low reward. I really hope this video blows up soon
I still remember seeing monkey moon always number 1 on PlayStation leaderboards years ago. Been a fan ever since
I think players like Jstn, Squishy, and Gimmick (probably perhaps others) were further ahead of everyone else back in their primes than Zen is compared to modern players.
You can prob do this calculation a few times before the content gets stail, loved it
I think if youre talking GOAT, (Of all time) longevity has to have a massive impact..
Suggestion regarding your formula at 3:56:
I wouldn't base the percentiles on the players' rank on your list but rather on the actual stat:
Percentile = player's stat / highest stat in category
This formula is easier and would also make your ranking more realistic.
btw it'd help a little bit at fixing the "Turbopolsa-Issue" too as he'd still get 1% for his four wins at LAN-events while all the ones with only two wins would only get 0.5% instead of 0.921% for example.
U forgot to mention me
Gotta redo the video
10:29 where is Atow ? Like how is it possible to not include him in this list ? No data maybe ?
Truly can’t believe you left CJCJ, Ferra and al0t off the list but this is incredibly well done and I applaud the work you put 🤝🏼 would love some more content like this
bro just ruined the age old argument of students in math asking " when will I ever use this in life??" 😂😂
I’m an engineering major, it’s kinda my future job to find out that kinda stuff lol
I'd Put squishy over Jstn... js saying
@Jsbtn_ what dynasty did he beat as a rookie?
11:40 That was FairyPeak!'s greatest moment?
Nah. Sure, MAAAAAaaaybe in RLCS.
But everyone knows his greatest moment of all time is "Be Careful!"
Awesome video ! I'll be waiting for the next list before worlds. I miss seeing jstn on lan.
Can't imagine how much time went into this!!! Greatest RL video in a long time
Love the video.
Banger video! I'm actually surprised with the outcome and am already exited for the next one before worlds.
Only problem i have with this video is Jstn being in the top 10 for 1v1. Kaydop and Ahmad were actual 1v1 showmatchers for a bit. And having Vatira at 9 and Zen at 11 in your personal top 30 is criminal
very good video, can’t wait to see the one before worlds!
Awesome video man, I'm sure a crazy amount of work went into this.
My man entered data by hand instead of building a scrapper 😢
Turbo, no questions, no contest. haven’t even seen 2 seconds of the video.
Love the concept, but a couple of tweaks for execution:
If we want to use 1v1 in our argument, Okhalid's ranking is very low.
BIG PROBLEM with your methods: The recency bias (just hear me out, it's about the statistical modeling skew)
Statistics change over time.
Great video but the 1v1 part kinda got me cos relative to the competition it should be a combination of fairy scrub khalid joreuz and jack yet jack nor joreuz was there
Turbs is the goat
Amazing, although id definitely put Turbo into no1 objectively for winning 4 Lan events, Vatira id say is chasing close behind now, Jstn for sure is Top 3 though but for me not no1 but much love
really cool and well put together video, great job! I disagree with some of the criteria and the valuation of it, but that's something everyone disagrees on. also rise not in the most clutch players is absolutely criminal you deserve jailtime for that
The list is good- but thinking back at the F3 series vs Selfless, it is criminal for Kux not to be in the top 10 clutch players imo
Fair. I only started watching the RLCS in season 8, so I don’t know too much about the older players.
@@_CRUMP_ as a RL fan, you should check the series out! It was nothing short of insane!
without the stats turbo should be at least top 3 if not #1 on the list
this is some good content didnt expect a jxmy fan here
disappointed for not seeing Itachi in the initial list, extremely underrated player.
you should have weighted championships wins/placements higher than major wins/placements. The world championships is the apex of RLCS. It should have more value than majors since we are determining greatness.
Do not agree with the en result but fantastic video. My suggestion for the subjective categories is to ask to the community or talk with rlcs people, im sure johnnyboi would love to help. Waiting for the 2nd part.
