Did you look at the events at all? Kaydop dominated in almost EVERY event 2018. Squishy did literally nothing the first half of 2018, and also wasn’t even the best on his own team when they won worlds. Gtfo
Dude doesnt know the difference between player and team of the year and his takes are so not in line with what actually happened in early seasons mans memory is going with age
Very cool idea, great trip back memory! First half of 2018 was pretty interesting, i actually think Turbo and Kaydop were better, Panda was nuts but i didn't remember him as THAT player. I also disagree on S7, the whole conversation was if either Kaydop, jstn or Scrub was the best player in the world before the LAN, and Scrub won the S7 MVP, i think he also was the best before that, he was unveliabable all Season. I actually believe Fairy was the S9 EU MVP bit of a hot take, though Aztral peaked in playoffs. 100% agree on Gimmick, S6 NA MVP, equally as good as Squishy in S6 LAN, also with Kaydop being the best in 2017 and 2018, Turbo may have more LAN victories, but Kaydop was the better player imo, even when they played together
Interesting, because I specifically remember Panda being hailed as an absolute mastermind after their Season 5 win. The amount of times we raved about his passing back then and tried to replicate their playstyle specifically because of him and how much vision he had over the entire field, it was crazy
@@kerseykerman7307 His passing ability was crazy, probably the best ever, plus i remember him being cracked at double taps, and he even hit a ceiling shot in the S5 finals against NRG. It was the time when people started really noticing how important leader types, who control the comms and keep the mentality high, can really be, which is also why al0t stayed relevant for so long at that time because after Panda, he was the best leader there was
Mannnn the disrespect towards squishy in this video is crazy. Both gim and tor would have never seen the light of day without squish carrying. He saw their potentials and carried them both to opportunity. Then, they shined.
Overall great list, but there are my problems / nitpicks: 2017 best first half could go to either Deevo or Kaydop since Deevo didn’t have the best regionals while Kaydop was the mvp 2017 best player is Kaydop by a long shot. Purely basing it on results is stupid, Kaydop was individually waaay better than Turbo that year (best player of S3 regional S4 wc). 2018 best first half is between GarrettG and Kaydop since they were the best players for s5 regionals and it was super close between them and VP at worlds. I go with GarrettG because he was carrying NRG in the first series of the wc final. 2019 best first half is between all vitality players. Fairy wasn’t that great before the wc but probably the best at worlds day 3, while Scrub and Kaydop were consistent throughout the entire season. That’s why I would give it to Kaydop or Scrub. 2021 best first half should be Firstkiller or M0nkey M00n. Again, you should rate the player’s performance, not the team’s performance. 2022 best first half should be Vatira, he was better in the entire spring split, especially the major. I don’t know how you can even dispute that.
If they countinue this crazy run then yeah, they’ve already been the most consistent. If they can win worlds no doubt. Or wrap up another two majors, I’d already say that Jack is the best player in the world when it comes to decision making, chronic is insane they could literally have anyone as their third.

what ever happened to eyeignite? came in not too long ago and was great and i forgot all about him
Has he done this with ones players before? I would love to see that
could not watch past him giving best second half to gim over squishy that is so unjustifiable its crazy
Ive always rated Gimmick extremely highly, Squishy was great in clutch moments and got the clips, but Gim was just the difference maker on that team

he had beef with squishy few years back so it is well known he always is biased against him
new players of 2022 is like the most stacked category ever. Of course there's Vatira, Rise, Joyo. Chronic too because he won his first ever major, Then there's all the new guys that dominated throughout the year but just didn't win like vati/chronic did: Beastmode, Daniel, trk, Yan, Ahmad,
??? vatira and chronic both won majors
@@senorlodenstein yeah sorry mistake on chronic but i meant players that didnt win like vatira did
Thinking Kaydop better than squishy in 2018 is actually crazy
th-cam.com/video/9MajWw52oCE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=N0EoEZRNLrcYtNrV
But yeah, Kaydop was the best scorer in the world (and he still is all time imo), online MVP, and Turbo was Turbo, so i have a bit of a hard time seeing Panda as the best of S5. But who knows, they were all goated, and i was like plat 2 back then, so probably my understanding of rocket league wasn't elite
@@pabloruedaarzoz8065 For how I remember it it was also just smaller, more context-specific things, like I was there at the event for Season 5 Worlds and specifically remembering Kaydop having had a REALLY bad time prior to Day 3, it's really only at the end that he kinda turned up, and Panda just held them all together.
I haven't watched the video yet but I'm 100% sure squishy will not be on this list 😂
Most of the communiy agrees that Squishy was best player in the world in 2018... He is so biased towards squishy due to his personal beef
Worlds 2022 was in the second half of 2022
The bias against Squishy is astonishingly blatant as can be
Disrespect to Squishy!
Overall great list, but there are my problems / nitpicks:
2017 best first half could go to either Deevo or Kaydop since Deevo didn’t have the best regionals while Kaydop was the mvp
2017 best player is Kaydop by a long shot.
People in the comments are really forgetting how damn good Gimmick used to be. I think Johnny still will always have beef with Squishy though
So in conclusion the 3 GOATS are Garretg, Kaydop and Turbo
This was a very well done unbiased list
Very biased ranking on a controversial topic.
Gonna pick at you for doing it by year instead of just splitting it by each RLCS season, but I’m not the pro content creator so I’ll hush now :)
New Player OTY for 2022-23 was def Yanxnz. Everyone was hyping him up as the best player in the world.
Great until the end, Vatira?
Prime deevo was my hero
Does anyone think GenG could become the most dominant team in history?
If they countinue this crazy run then yeah, they’ve already been the most consistent. If they can win worlds no doubt. Or wrap up another two majors, I’d already say that Jack is the best player in the world when it comes to decision making, chronic is insane they could literally have anyone as their third.
@@austincarter2612 major disrespect to noly clearly havent seen him go crazy at lans maybe bias from the recent series nolys ceiling is super high hes the one making the insane passes jack and chronic pre jump
Nah it only takes Daniel to team up with fk or Beastmode to beat such a team. Will Daniel go to Faze, V1 or will he stay at SSG and have Beastmode join him. Worst case arsenal stays at SSG and Daniel wastes his youth in that team and never unlocks his full potential
G I agree with the last part, but I don’t think they would beat gen g rn, and nah I’ve seen noly the last year + just don’t think he’s nearly as consistent as Jack or chronic.
@@austincarter2612 actually I think chronic is the one who needs a bit more time for now, hes so good but if you watch the 6mans he’s not as good as Daniel and Beastmode. He needs more time on a good team to catch up to his fellow young pros. Maybe less time than they got since he’s literally on the best team.
Johnny I 100% agree with picking Rise as number 1 for the first half of 22
nah its atomic
@@JMJX10 Aint no way. Yeah he was good but Moist was more successfull
@@tubemaster4268 I'm sorry but its very true, that was Atomic's debut lan, on a new team he had been on for just under 3 months at the time, he dismantled Moist in the winter major finals and was the major mvp, also, he also got second place at Worlds while Moist was knocked out by Furia after G2 had beaten Furia.
@@JMJX10 ok but where was Atomic with G2 in the spring major? Look at the consistency of Moists placements in the first half. They were 2nd or 1st every single tournament they played. Then try to find G2 in the top 4 of the spring major. They did not make it to top 4 even though they won the Winter major and Also NA spring. Still they were only like (I dont quite remember) like 8th in the Spring Major.
@@tubemaster4268 you are arguing something else now, still doesnt prove rise was better than atomic, rise wasnt mvp at any lans in the first half while joyo and vatira were. it still stands that atomic was the best in the first half of the year over rise.

Season 7 best player I would have given to kaydop instead of FairyPeak tbh. Yeah i can definetely see the point but i still think Kaydop would have a been the right pick in my eyes.
The reason that there is no ksa player on this list because they didn't play enough tournament?
beastmode has to be somewhere
Johnny gave Scrub Killa the new RLCS player OTY award in 2018 after he was 3rd in a 2017 Dreamhack. I don't know why he would so specifically define his category and then break his own rule.
Because dreamhack isn't rlcs
Huh? I thought he meant New RLCS player OTY is someone who wasn't picked as best before but ok.
Damn Johnny what did squishy do to you
Surprisingly quite a bit...
(Basically squishy got pissed at Johnny for casting a series with squishy in which he lost. Then to draw it on Squishy no showed for several showmatches that he agreed to play. This was obvioulsy a younger squishy but he was still one of the worst sports at the time and since then Johnny tried to contact him a couple times but was ignored and really since 2020 they have nothing to do with eachother really. I don't know the exact time frame could be off by a bit but I think its fair to hold at least a moderate grudge).
Though it isn't impossible to place another C9 member above squishy so it could just be his genuine take and its not an awful one since statistics back it just maybe not the eye test.
I miss turtle, why did he rebrand 😔
I used to like jonnyboi because he seemed like a fairly objective commentator, but the more I’ve come to know him, he constantly comes across as one of the pettiest humans.

Why is JSTN the best player in 2018? I feel like because finally an NA player got a player of the year Johnny decided not to spend too much time elaborating, but Vitality won S7 worlds and came second (in a super close series) in S8 worlds, while NRG were nowhere to be seen at S7 worlds..

Turbo not being player of the year after back to back worlds is a miss
Look at the versatile players awards. That is fucking stacked. Its worth just as much as best player. And turbo won it three times in a row. Also it makes sense, turbo wasn't the individually best player on his teams but he maked them click.
Completely contradicts himself with picking jknaps as new player of the year due to one big win that John values more than the smaller wins. Then picks kaydop over turbo right after based on 3 smaller wins (one of which is a 2v2 tournament) as compared to turbos one bigger win.
Aztral miles clear of jknaps for 2020
