I really like your work. Thank you for sharing. You could use plain old felt. Just thinly paint it with a mixture of white pva glue and water. The felt will dry both stiff and clear. Plus felt comes in many colors therefore and there's no dye necessary. I've done this and it works really well. Oh and almost forgot to mention that it's cost effective.
I find that the stiff felt that you can buy at local craft stores work just as well as Lacy;s Stiff Stuff and it also comes in a ton of colors as well. Thanks so much for sharing your skill!
I had a brain fart and mixed up foundation and backing and wanted to know alternatives to Lacy's. So glad I watched all the way though and learned about Nicole's! I have yet to use it but I was wishing there was way to have colored foundation without having to dye it myself. (I'm one of those people that no matter what I do I get dye all over myself.) Thank you for sharing!
I have previously purchased all of your tutorials for the projects you show in the vid. Luv all of them. All excellently done and very easy to use. I want to make a detailed design and would like to know what the best method(s) & products are to make a detailed drawing on the backing?
Since I've made this video, I have tried stiffened felt; it's OK for small projects (earrings or pin), but I've not had as good results with larger projects. So you can use stiffened felt, with the caveat that all pieces are not created equal. Go into the store and feel each piece -- some are too thin, some are too floppy, etc. Pick out only the best ones to buy.
+Iyana Dale Hi! No, I don't have a video, but I do have an ebook tutorial on bead embroidery earrings: www.beadedjewelrydiva.com/tutorials/bead-embroidery-earrings-tutorial-tutorial-1/
Hi Maria, I usually get my UtraSuede either at my local bead shop, or more usually at Etsy -- www.etsy.com/shop/suedeshop but you can search on Etsy for Ultrasuede light and you can find lots of sellers: www.etsy.com/search/craft-supplies-and-tools?q=ultrasuede+light&explicit=1
lynnval33 Hi! Yes, you can use stiff felt or faux suede. Just be aware that both are a bit "floppy", so you will have to hold it steady more than with the Stiff Stuff. :)
+Faith Dodd I use a couple different kinds of backing. Most often I use Lacey's Stiff Stuff. However, if I want something thinner, or in a color other than white, I use stiffened felt.
Looks like Nicole has gone out of business. The BeadSmith has black, but the shipping is pricey. It's also on Amazon. Since my first attempt at this craft is in a black and white and pink theme, I've ordered the black, but I'm not sure it will matter with white and black beads. Anyone want to advise?
Old video, but very disappointed...talked nothing but the material...nothing shown about beading embroidery style, no instructions whatsoever...click bait as far as I'm concerned
The title specifically says "Intro To Bead Embroidery Backing", so of course that's what she talks about, the backing materials, in an introductory manner. Honestly, I don't think it could be any clearer.

That is an excellent idea! I'll see about creating something like that, with maybe a few other tips thrown in. :)
Great video. On the blue bracelet how do you connect each section?

When you wear this, isn't the backing getting dirty with sweat and grease from the skin? And, how could you clean it?
Which fabric do u use on this?
I have found the Lacy stiff stuff to be too pricey can I use a different material instead of this stiff stuff? Confused
How do I use the bead to join it? How do I cut it to the right size?
do you have a video of how to turn the pendant into an earring?

What is the name of the alternative backing you showed.
Is there a cheap alternative to this foundation, I am in the uk and its very expensive to get, would a stiff felt work or faux suede.

can i use felt
aliciaguilfordallert Hi! Yes you can, if it's stiffened felt. I don't recommend the regular non-stiffened felt, though.
+aliciaguilfordallert You can you use fabric, Vinyl, Leather backing as well
