@@sunshinecycling we grade down from A to E. This was a C grade race. In terms of FTP, 300W should see you being competitive, but different types of riders win different races. I’ve got a good shot if it comes down to a bunch sprint, others have a better shot if a breakaway stays up the road.

Brian I had an injury that sounded similar to yours. You said the nerves coming out of your spine. So I assume the nerve root. I had a skydiving accident with burst fractures of L1-L5. I had a paralyzed right shin. A decompressive laminectomy took the pressure off, but the nerve had to regenerate and that was at a rate of about 1 mm per day. It was a long rode, but I got 95% of the function back. Good luck on your recovery.
I always hate riding woth multiple fields going at once. We do it so often in Australia for whatever reason time or numbers. It just makes things so nessy and confusing. I once got in a solo break away that was going the distance and travelling faster then the higher field (they started after us and tended to do fuck all the first 90% of the race). Just before I over took them the race prganisers told me to slow down and I got forcably caught.
ya this seemed a little messy, we only have one field on course at a time during crits here in the US, and lapped riders are pulled so it's not so dangerous
Basicsally all the Club races at Stromlo in Canberra have multiple fields at the same time. It was annoying as I attacked on the last lap but another grade was on the corner before the finishing straight so it stuffed up my line and I was caught.
I can't wait for the next Bald eagle aka Machman aka Friendimy Brian to get back on the classic commentry with Jeff he offers some pro strategies. Really looking forward to it. Get well soon ☺️
At the end of this years summer I had taken 2 weeks holiday to make some nice trips with a club I want to join... I crashed on my first ride and the bike as well as I have suffered. That was the end of the cycling season 2020 for me. Since then I have bought a heavy fixie to train through the winter. At the moment absolutely every race is cancelled in my area (Germany), so it will be a long time before I can participate in a crit race.
Brian glad you are improving! No great evidence but worth trying - acupuncture. Also consider seeing a PMR sports specialist in addition or ortho / neurosurgery. Sometimes they have different ideas
@@madhatter227 arm warmers + shorts make more sense. Your upper body isn’t really doing much while cycling . Keeping it warm is (always) important. On the other hand, your legs are definitely working hard and producing significantly more heat. While it may be a little cold in the beginning, once warmed up you can withstand surprisingly cold temperatures with shorts.
@@christian101112 ... I guess. Although our bodies are liquid cooled (blood) and I doubt temp is actually higher in the leg than other appendages. Legs are more surface area than arms so seems like it would be just a slightly higher amount of cooling or insulating you'd be getting.
Hey! I'm a mountain biker and have recently started to listen to these as background music. This seems a lot more technical than I originally thought, can someone explain what some of these terms mean, and why they are the right way to do it?
I think the guy went into the race with the wrong mindset by already premeditating what his race would be. When I raced I loved being in breakaways, in fact I initiated most of them. But to say and think you don’t want to be part of a break way but the bunch sprint only is not good planning for winning.
So, ZWIFT racing IS pretty damn close to IRL racing. Never lead out a sprint. Let someone else throw down watts while you suck their wheel and then pounce in the last few meters.
Lol. I am the adx rider. I knew there was one bunch up the road but not 2. Barnaby was so strong.
The peloton was only about 20 seconds behind us at the end - we couldn’t play games! But damn, watching that again, I feel so suckered!
I don't remember this one, was this one of the winter crits? Oh, NCC club champs, got it...
Do you guys have the same rating system (or categories)? How would you describe the rating or skill level of your race?

Stupid question, but shouldn't they be going around the course counter-clockwise down under?

Has Brian thought about the Paralympics? Could be a new opportunity from the ashes.

Yeah it's in regards to time allowed to put on the event mostly, but you know bike racing can get off schedule pretty quickly.

Only way to do multiple fields on a small course is a handicap race, no way you can keep an eye on it otherwise.

@Lvskymar, exactly what happened. We'll probably do a full commentary on this sometime soon

I'd suggest shiatsu over acupuncture having tried both.

Never understood this stance, even though I know it's a joke. It's like wearing a t-shirt with pants? Is arm warmers + shorts better? I can't keep up.
