Another certified banger of a video, Stephanie! The through line with food in the Sopranos cannot be ignored. I think Ritchie put it best when he complained that there were boom times with garbage but Tony wouldnt "let me eat" indicating that to deny a mobster illicit activity is tantamount to refusing him sustenance. I can't remember if this line had been used again in the series but I thought it was immensely telling. The abundance of food is most noticeable between the generations of mobsters. Older characters are staunch about the offering and receiving of food (particularly Italian delicacies) as a moment of bonding and friendship (Junior proudly offers pignoli cookies at Furio's party, Ritchie brings Carmela a tray of tripe. While Christopher throws his sub at Vito and angrily tosses a box of sfogliatella on the table much to Paulie's alarm). Concur this is a topic worthy of an in depth thesis! Looking forward to more insights!
Thank you very much, my friend! And yes, that's a great line from Richie and very telling!! Another one that comes to mind is Phil Leotardo giving Doc Santoro his "taste" (envelope) but Doc then putting his fork on Phil's plate and taking another taste - he got greedy and paid for it! On the other hand, when Tony and Puss grab food off Sil's plate in Funhouse, no harm, no foul...well, I guess Puss did end up sleeping with the fishes later on that episode.
@@SopranosBlueprint Great insights! Breaking the third wall for a moment, Im sure I gained a few pounds just by watching the series. I often felt the need to indulge on gabagool and lard bread while enjoying each episode. So ok no lard bread (I could never find it), but yes to the soppressata and pancetta. I also recently enjoyed my first appetizer of fried zucchini flowers :D (thank you Artie Bucco!)
@@PRoss784 Thanks! I have The Sopranos Family Cookbook re: The Sopranos and food, but always looking for more Sopranos things to read! Appreciate it 🙏🏼
Again with the food? I recently binged 'Southland' about cops from LA and they did a great work eating fast mexican food all the time. Too bad i live at a farm in the mountains and this cravings from watching shows are really torture.
Eggs (for Easter they represent fertility and virility) in the sopranos always indicate death or danger of some sort. There's multiple examples. Richie Ralphie Tony B (Tony Egg) Uncle June (lost his mental acuity, or life as he knows it) Carmine Lupertazzi
i was in a coma for a month after a heart issue. my wife would sit with me, and to pass the time, she'd watch the food network. the food commercials gave me coma nightmares. meatball subs... that's what put me here in the first place! 😠
He did wear a "fatsuit" in the beginning, he joked later that maybe Chase thought he was so naturally fat after awhile, that he didn't need the suit anymore lol
Melfi was the weakest characters in the Sopranos. It’s like Tony saved her from herself. But she was so full of herself that she didn’t let Tony take care of the problem after the rape. I’m still perplexed why she fired Tony as a patient. How irresponsible and unprofessional then not to even want to refer Tony to another doctor. Almost wants me to think that Melfi’s life should have been cut short. Or at the worse case she talked to the FBI then Tony would have to personally kill her.
YES! I AGREE! I always felt melfi should've been whacked instead of Adriana. Melfi was just as bad as ade by her behavior cause both adriana and melfi were self focused & full of themselves but adriana was hurt, desperate for a solution and wanted to save chris. Melfi was so stuck up and annoying. She cut tony off cause she got too invested in him and felt like she had some feelings for him deep down. She wanted to rid herself of him so she could restore her reputation among her white pretentious friends and not face the relaity about herself. Tony cared for her more than her own weak ass husband did who blamed her for her own assault
Chrissy didn’t understand the importance of fresh produce.
Chianti and fava beans, I'm drowning over here
"So what? No fu**in' ziti now?"
*HEY!!!*
OOOOHH
Food and The Sopranos, two of my favourite things! Thankyou
You're quite welcome! I have to say they're at the top of my list, too 😀
I think we can all agree that the best line about food in the whole series is Silvio's relationship with cheese and what he does with provolone...🤣
The smell 😂
So leave the motherf*&kin cheese WHERE IT IS!!!

@SopranosBlueprint Food is so interwoven with the show, I look forward to further feasts.
Magnificent! Truly love 💙 the content!

I never thought about food that way. Anyway, 4 dollars a pound. Way to go, Blue!

Can I have the end piece?
Check out the book, The Sopranos Cooking Companion. It covers this topic of food and symbolism in The Sopranos in extensive detail.

That breadstick in a bowtie...I can't even say his name.
Food was the most important thing in the show
"Everything I do and everything I've ever done and everything I will do, it's all for you and your brother and food, you know that..."
Again with the food?

What about when Vito takes the hotdog and walks away with it in his mouth and gies off that weird look😂😂😂
Gluttony, Chase wanted Bacala to wear a fat prosthesis. But as the seasons progressed they nixed the idea.
Yes, and I think Steve was VERY happy about nixing it the further they got into the show!

Right, you can totally tell in his first season!!
When I watch the Sopranos, it is usually a binge watch. Since they always seem to be eating tomato sauce. it causes me to get tired of eating it.
Haha, nice. Italian food's my favorite, so I don't know if I could ever get tired of tomato sauce.
