Just got the c100! I don't NEED 4k but i do need the battery life, built in ND Filters, small file size, and overall ergo-dynamic and aesthetics of this c100!
Good points! I'm about to buy a C100 M2 even in 2019!I. I've used one at work for several years now and it's just a hard camera NOT to like even without 4K. Definitely showing it's age, but the footage grades remarkably well, insane battery life, is such a small package, and terrific image quality among other points. One thing you didn't mention is reliability. Our C100 has been a workhorse - it just works with consistent reliably .
Nice!! The best arguments for C100 - strong battery life, good file sizes. Why would you want to fumble with batteries and cards in an unpredictable event like weddings!? So yeah i agree, very good for LONG & UNPREDICTABLE EVENTS. Otherwise, for controlled situations , go for something else.
How do I set up the camera to film at different apparatuses.... My lenses range starting at 2.8 but say i want f5.6 or f8.0 using my using my canon 24mm to 105 f4.0 l series lens
The C100 really works best in low or challenging light with f/2.8 and faster lenses. The 24-105mm f/4 (L) is an amazing lens paired with the C100 & C100 mkii. If you are filming at 24 fps, shutter to 1/48, IOS 850. If you can control the light, bring more light to your shoot. Even a small LED panel light will help. If not, bump up your ISO but be careful of noise. I have the C100 MKII and I stay with Canon f/2.8 or faster lenses. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is an awesome lens but the AF is a little noisy. Need a good shot gun mic or wireless. The Rokinon cinema lenses also work well. I use a 24mm T/1.2 manual focus but I’m still learning with these. The Rokinon 85mm T1.2 really rocks. The key is getting more light onto your subjects using a fast lens.
I am buying c100 mk2 as my 1st cam and going to use my sony 6500 as 2nd gimbal cam. Dont like sony colors, ergonomic / menu..is just not there. I done some research and found EOSHD Pro Color profile , which helps match them 2 cams. Any experiences on this? What do you think about lenses for shooting wedding video for c100. Hello there, thanks so much for putting your effort together to publish this useful video on You Tube. I do own the mark ii and I am not very happy with the image quality. Basically, I am seeking advice from you to guide me through on how to get best out of this camera since I know for the fact that it works very well. Having said this, I am not sure the best settings for the camera, in particular wedding and live event. I would really appreciate if you kindly share your supportive guidance with me so I can follow your recommended settings. Thanks in advance...
Hey there! I definitely plan on making a video detailing this in the future, but here are a few quick tips to get started. I always shoot CP-8 (Wide DR) as I find it gives the best dynamic range and is still easy to edit in post. Always try to keep your ISO at 850 as it's the native ISO for the camera and will give you the cleanest image with the best dynamic range. Other than that make sure to use your waveform monitor to nail your exposure and really learn what a great looking image looks like on the back of your camera and how that translates into the computer. Good luck!
The Herrintons thank you 🙏 I might be using this same price of information very shortly... to get my camera set just rght... I’m ordering one in the next couple of weeks...
Brand new C100 mark I is $1999. That is same price as gh5. Which one would you choose. I like the ND filter from c100. But the ibis from gh5 is a major feature. You can shoot b roll handheld so easy. And c100 does not have slow motion. If I am shoot indie film, I think I will choose c100. Wedding, causal video, youtuber, I will choose gh5.
I don't turn any of that down manually, I just shoot in Wide DR. This does result in a little flatter image, so I do add sharpening and contrast back in for sure.
Can you believe BH got the C100 MKI on sale for $1299 the DPAF version! That’s a steal and after watching your video the decision is done. Thanks for all the info
Hello sir! My question is would it be possible to create big theatre screen style projects on my C100, such as for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. Thanks.
Hmmm, good question. That'll depend on a few different factors like what kind of audio you need, how much access you'll have to power for charging and a computer to dump cards, if you care about ND filters, etc. I would probably lean towards the C100 for reliability and flexibility over the image quality bump of the GH5. Both could easily work tho!
How is the dynamic range compared to the a73 whichbis very popular for weddings. Also how can you stabilize this in a practical way for weddings hand held. Does it have dual pixel af.
Dynamic range is great. Not sure the exact comparison to the A73 but I would imaging the Sony might be slightly better in Log but the Canon better in Wide DR. I wouldn't suggest hand holding this camera for weddings. Using an IS lens would help but it's not really designed to be used that way. The C100MKII does have Dual Pixel AF and some MKIs come with it. It's limited to a small box in the middle of the sensor however so it's not as helpful as other Canon cameras.
Thinking about picking up C100 Mark II to compliment my 5D4 and Sony A6500. I use the Sony on gimbal, and the 5D4 on either monopod or tripod. Do you do any handheld with C100? Or must be on tripod / monopod?
It's all about color science glass. Nice picture. I own Canon g30 but have it in rail system and 7 inch monitor and ninja 2 recorder. I bought it only for lens. Think sensor is same as your sensor but it's not 4k . Sorry I mean processor is same. I use zoonh5 so I'm in 3000 dollars and your cam is compact. If I could do it all over I'd buy your Canon
Halfway through 2018..and even though I've added a GH5S to my lineup, I still use 2 C100s for weddings (although I have to upgrade one of them to a Mark II because Adobe stopped supporting Dolby). You're spot on.
I have the c100 mark one, One thing that has been tricky for me are picture profiles, do you by chance have nay information on that? Also what lenses do you use primarily on the C100 mark one?
Hey Andrew! I use the Wide DR picture profile (PP8) on both cameras and pretty much have only ever used that profile! The lenses I carry on a wedding day are the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8, Canon 50mm f/1.2L and Canon85mm f/1.2L! You can check out all our gear in the Kit page (linked in the video description!)

Hey Michael, thanks for watching! No word on the C100mkIII as of yet. I really hope they do make it tho! I honestly don't know if 120fps would end up in it if they did. All I would want in a C100mkIII would be touch screen for DPAF and potentially 4K!

Its so sad cuz this camera is half the price of the mark ii. I would live to pick one up as i am waiting patiently to jump back to canon system
Yeah that is a big downside to the MKI. I absolutely love the 60p on the MKII, it looks so good. I’ve experimented with the 60i but wouldn’t use it for anything professional. You can get a used MKII for less than $3K for sure. Well worth it in my opinion for all you get
yea i figured that much. I'll probably have to just suck it up and get the mark ii. But ive been following you for awhile an your one of few that use the c100 and not many people realize the benefits of a proper video camera. Anyway. Thanks again for all your videos. love what your doing with your channel.
If you need 60p, the MKII is definitely worth the extra money. It has other advantages too, but that’s the biggest one. There are definitely advantages to a true cinema camera. It’s easy to get SO focused on pure image quality and forget about easy of use and functionality. Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words! I’m glad the videos are helpful!!
Your video and this comment thread have been very helpful in leaning my focus closer to a C100. The cinema line was out of my wallet's dialect when I first started. But, instead of focusing on another DSLR, I am going to pursue a proper cinema camera. A DSLR which does Photo and Video has to split itself between the two. I want to add one that is built for video to my kit. A GH5 is a great addition, but I'm all Thanks!
All that being said, these are solid arguments. This camera is better than I gave it credit for... and in the same price range as your a6500s and GH5s.. not bad
Haha, thanks man! Yeah I think it's a solid pickup if you need the pro features and small file sizes but don't want to drop $6K-$8K on a newer cinema camera. It's not for everyone, but I love mine!
I hear you on the old Canons. Their compression is AWFUL! 40mbps bitrates, but HUGE files. Definitely NOT an efficient codec. This is why I switched to Sony, myself for paid jobs. (Olympus for personal) - but yeah, the old 5D cameras and the rebel line have very poor compression in their video files, for sure.
Honestly, yes! It depends on the type of work you do and what you need to deliver. But if you do a lot of long form content and deliver in 1080p then it can be a great option for sure!
@@tylerherrinton awesome thank you. I kinda wish it had the 60p but I have a gopro for that. My cousin asked me to help video her wedding and I just want to help her out more by getting a better product that I could create for her.

A GH5 is a great addition, but I'm all Thanks!
how do people deal with stabilisation ? i find it hilarious that you pay such amount of money and you film handheld without IBIS
may be they have some sort of stabilizers. i have one even im poor
it's not the same weight than a dslr, if you have a wide lense it's gonna be fine ;)
Yeah it’s crazy especially considering you’re not really getting much in terms of dynamic range or sharpness haha.
if it would only have 60p :(
The markII has awesome 60p! It looks so good 👌🏼
it doesnt have 1080 60?
willbhamfilm nope, mark I has only 50i
Still relevant even now in 2021?
Honestly, yes! It depends on the type of work you do and what you need to deliver. But if you do a lot of long form content and deliver in 1080p then it can be a great option for sure!
@@tylerherrinton awesome thank you. I kinda wish it had the 60p but I have a gopro for that. My cousin asked me to help video her wedding and I just want to help her out more by getting a better product that I could create for her.
@@RyanDimal The C100 MKII shoots 60p! SO if that's important to you I'd spend the extra money and go that route!
@@tylerherrinton that’s what I’m thinking but it’s just above what I can afford. I feel like a wedding would have some good moments when 60fps would be useful
@@tylerherrinton any thoughts on bag to transport camera?
8 MINUTES!
So. This Video is 2 Years old, yet it says "Buy in 2020". Either you are far ahead of time, or you tweak your Headlines from time to time...
