Thank you guys so much! I recently purchased a c100 mkii, upgrading from a 70d. Still have 3 70ds, but I have just begun with the mkii. This info is very helpful. Thank you!
Thnx. Sounds like there is a general consensus on wide dr for easy deliverables with wiggle room in post. Just picked up a c100m2. Was using zebras, but the wFM is much more accurate and fast
Quick tip for white balance. You can change the waveform monitor to rgb in the menus. Then you get an rgb parade scope on your screen. Then you can dial in the perfect kelvin temp. While you watch the scopes change.
Any idea on why certain clips I put in the timeline will flicker bright to dark? It’s not from a light source. It does it on playback. However when I play that same clip in windows media player it has no flickering and is totally fine. The flickering is even reflected in the scopes.
This video was super helpful. I’m having issues with constant strobing and flickering on the c100 when filming inside with LED and artificial light, tried lots of different things with shutter speed and changing settings but still no luck. Any advice?
Hey, do you work with the correct video standard? I live in Europe so I use PAL and therefore I shoot in 25/50 fps, otherwise the artificial lights will flicker. Maybe you only have to adjust your SD to the right video standard, depending on where you live. That's the only reason I could think of.
Hey there, it depends on the lights you're using. Certain led lights will create a strobe effect. The trick is to adjust your shutter speed until it disappears.
Thank you soooooo much I just got a c100 mkii a month ago and my first wedding of the year is in a few weeks. The exposure and sharpness were questionable to me as far as weddings go. This video came out at the perfect time for me and I really appreciate your work! Thanks again 🙏🙏
Hy Guys, I really love the look and your storytelling. There are not so many weddingvideos that I watched completely to the end. Not so with yours. They are all mindblowing ...for me! Especially this Video shows that, only a few People really can use these cameras to its full potencial. Thanks for this eyeopener. Looking forward to your next videos. Cheers Andy
Hi....Could you tell me how to set up my picture profile on my C100 mark 1 to record at my home studio. I mostly record on a medium shot with a solid blue blackground. I need to set up my C100 to upload videos online and I use iMovie for post, but I am looking into learning Final Cut Pro X. A video or reply would be appreciated, thank you so much and keep up the great work on TH-cam!
Anything that’s over or under where the exposure needs to be is over or underexposed. What’s outside the waveform is clipped or crushed. And metering for the highlights means to protect them over the shadows and letting the he shadows go where they might. Giving the sensor as much light as possible is metering for the shadows. You still have to protect your highlights with digital though.
how do you tackle the slow motion 120 FPS look?i know that there are plugins out there for the job.... but the slow motion footage here in the park have so much detail. that it would throw the plugin algorithm off. and cause nasty warping effects. i don't see any warping here .
Question! I know the video is about a year old, but i;m hopeful you can answer. When shooting on Wide Dynamic Range, what ISO do you usually stay in and do you shoot it as an mp4 or AVCHD? In regards to the c100 mark ii

I was thinking of buying a new camera but I may hold on to my c100mkii a bit longer. I still can't get this type of footage from it lol. Would be cool to know which shot was the c100. Your work looks great
We shoot wide dr in-camera with sharpness turned all the way down. We only use an external monitor on the MōVI Pro - the 702 day bright monitors from smallhd are the bee’s knees.
We use the default settings - we just turn the sharpness all the way down. We use our LUTs in post to bring contrast and bring the rich colours you see in our films to our footage.
I've been shooting run and gun interviews for Biz Journals for the last 4 years. I' ready to leave the Mark IV video world and get the C100 Mark II. This video was so simple and loaded with really good tips. From a newb bidding and winning a bunch of new video gigs, I appreciate your hard work and sharing your craft. 🙌🏼🤘🏼
John Frum um, I wasn’t getting paid video gigs years ago. Just landed a big job with Hard Rock Casino so I’m going to get the C500 Mark II. I know it’s a bit overkill for my level but I’m working out a deal with a media house to rent it out quite frequently.
Great info! As Canon users, it would be great to hear your thoughts on competitive cameras like the BMPCC4K, URSA Mini Pro, Sony A7III and why you've chosen Canon. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching, Matthew! In our case, when the original C100 was released, it was the perfect mix of features and ergonomics. Nowadays, we're heavily invested in Canon and it just makes sense to keep on that route - it's also an ecosystem we know inside out. Blackmagic makes some great cameras, but they're not very practical for weddings; Sony has amazing features but we're not eager to shoot on DSLRs again (which was what we were shooting on before the C100) or give up on the Canon look and skin tones we love so much. So Canon, for us, remains a no-brainer.
Love these tips and tricks! Just one question. You stated you turn the sharpness all the way down on Wide DR but do you add any sharpness in post? Thanks!
Excellent video. Thank you! Question about sharpness. I always lower sharpness to -10 on the C100, but I found doing so on the C300mkII destroyed the footage. Does negative sharpness help the C200?
Thanks for watching! We’ve shot with both sharpness at 0 and -10 and haven’t noticed any bad side effects footage-wise. At the same time, it’s really just habit for us at this point. Footage looked great to us with or without sharpness turned down, so you can go either route with the C200.
Good video, you get a very nice look on your wedding films. I am filming weddings currently with the EOSR but have been looking at the C100 mark ii for dual recording, video features etc etc. Could I ask, my main worry in switching to the C100 mark ii video camera is the no stabilisation in the camera thing, and as I shoot with fast primes like the 50mm f1.2 was wondering how that would look? The EOSR has digital IS which helps out a little, but having non I am worried my footage would be too shaky, how do you get around this? Also, I notice the C100 mark ii has a very low bitrate, yet the footage looks amazing? How does it compare to the EOSR in your opinion? Thanks in advance for your help. Keep up the good work. Julian. (subbed by the way!)
This is a very talented guy, but like many others in this industry doesn´t seem very williing to share his real "secrets" with his audience. The tips in this video are great, but what really makes a huge difference is the LUT he uses, but I don´t think he wants to talk about that. Anyway, thanks for the great input!
Hi Alejo, thanks for watching and for your kind words. There's so much that goes into filmmaking that I have to disagree with you that our grade and our grade alone is what really makes an impact on the viewer. Our shooting + editing (heck, even more specifically or gimbal work) are what usually gets commented on the most. That being said, we don't use a specific LUT - we grade our footage ourselves. Anyone that thinks that LUTs are the miracle cure to bad-looking footage are shooting themselves on the foot because there's no drag and drop solution to great colour and we work extensively on each and every shot in our films. The tips in the video are key to achieving beautiful footage because no amount of colour grading or LUT will fix a badly overexposed shot or ill-balanced frame. That being said, there's no secret here - me and my wife have (up until very recently) sold our own LUT. It's also not a lack of willingness to share as much as the lack of time to do so - we run our studio full-time and we're not looking to become TH-cam famous, educating is just a fun project to take on when we get a chance and to properly take on colour grading, we'd need an extensive workshop, not a 5 minute video. Hope that helps!
@@outsideinstudio Thank you so much for your answer. I´m not saying that LUTs are a miracle to cure bad looking footage. Of course you need to be aware of the camera and light settings in order to achieve good images. But it is clear that you use LUTs to help you get the beautiful results that we can see in your videos. That is the one tip you forgot to mention and I think it is a key factor. @@outsideinstudio I'm interested in your workflow matching the EOS -R to Wide DR in the C100. I'm thinking of picking up an EOS-R for a B cam to my C100 and dont like shooting 8 bit log on the C100.
@@FrankyEames We definitely still prefer the colors and codec on the C100 to the EOS-R (but we also haven't shot 10-bit externally on it). Matching it can be easy or hard on a case by case basis - at times, we've found it helpful to apply Canon's Log to BT709 Wide Dr LUT before applying our own color - other times, it's been easier to start from scratch. We find it has a pretty green cast, so we've wb shifted it in camera to M2. We think the next EOS R is going to be the game-changer 🤞

24-70, 50, 70-200
