If Magic lantern got involved - you’d have 4K raw. Canon purposefully kneecaps its line to protect the higher price units. Like, disallowing clean HDMI out, or forcing a cropped/windowed 4K
Great fun and like your style. As an idea, I would be very interested, particularly as a stills photographer to see a practical demonstration of using a wave form in a "real life" situation and how that relates directly to post.
Lenses that support face detection AF: - EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM - EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM * -EF-S 35mm F2.8 STM Micro Prime
And in 2020, I just bought one of these bad boys used. People are giving them away right now, and it is still a very legit camera for all the reasons you just mentioned. I can't believe the image quality that I get indoors using a 18-135mm kit lens. The low light performance is amazing compared to the JVC LS300 that I've been using for the past 3 years.
Nice job. I moved to the C100 Mk II as my main camera about 6 months ago myself. My favorite feature is the capability to assign functions to any button on the camera. Makes it really easy to access features or change settings in the blink of an eye. BTW, I also use the Sigma 18-35mm that you're showing off in the video. Great lens.
You all probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my login password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Travis Jude thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thanks for this video! Couple of questions: 1) can the articulating screen be turned completely so that it faces towards the front of the camera? I assume that the answer is yes, but I wasn't clear on this point in the video. 2) Could I use a Cannon EFS 24mm lens on the camera from my T6S, or would that not really work?
Nice review! You can see and feel your excitement through this video. I shoot mainly outdoor nature videos and I'm considering the c100. Often in public people start asking for "permits" when you have a larger camera. That's the maim reason I'm considering a different camera. Have you tried making it into a smaller form factor? Thanks!
Main problem with cameras this big is you have to use it with a tripod most of the time or with a gymbal thus limiting its field of use - the solution is to use an IS lens, like the Canon 35mm f/2, which is a super versatile lens that allows stable handheld shots. One other area to improve is audio since the mic on the handle is not the best. I use the wireless go system from Rode and am very happy with it. This way you can easily carry the camera like a dsrl and use it as a photography camera remaining inconspicous
Relay recording on dual cards is really great as you explain at 6:48. It is even more important on 4K cameras with massive bitrates. My Sony A9 don't have this feature, unfortunately, but the Sony AX700 has it just like Canon GX10/XF400 as well as GH5. Really nice feature, I agree.
Unlike the XF300 the cards are not hot swappable as stated as there is only one door for both cards. But with two 64gb cards it should last about 6 hours of continuous recording. Hopefully with the MKIII if it comes out it will have this feature as I have had to record 10 hours of non stop recording on the XF300 before now.
Nice video! I don't get why don't more full frame cameras have the full articulating screens. If anything, professional photographers encounter difficult shooting situations MORE than hobbyists. Also, is that a Tamron SP lens you got on there?
Thanks a lot for your clear information, you sure have helped me a lot. As as Canon 70D user and Sony FS5 I feel that this C100 Mk II is a good alternative for documentary shooting. Do you happen to use a gimbal with this Canon?
Great video thank you! Set up options would be really great, are there quick ways to turn off peaking colours rather than adjusting the setting? Also are there any adjustments to the viewfinder, mine seems blurry to look through, my friend said the same as I thought it might just be my blindness!
Thanks for the review. A few cons I've noticed after about 6 months of use. I wish Canon allowed L lenes to have face detection, and not the few they chose. My 80 D does a better job with face detection than this camera. The LCD screen is small and gets clutter fast with info so a monitor is really a neccesity. The XLR audio dials ontop of the handle are awkward to turn and nearly impossible to see in the dark. Too many buttons scattered all over the camera...
No wifi? Is it easy to do live streaming right on the spot (out in the field) with it then? How do I live stream with it then out on the street? As far I know I can even use it as a webcam and stream directly. So not having wifi does not limitate or complicate the camera to stream live from the street?
Every Sony camera can do punching in while rolling video as you mentioned at 5:21 Nevertheless, only Canon and Sony has this technology, no other maker can do that, not even Panasonic. Similarly, only Sony and Canon has reliable no-hunting continuous video autofocus. I know perfectly well that you are a manual focusing shooter, still you haven't mentioned the excellent touch to video AF feature available with the DPAF technology. Is there a reason you still don't use video AF?
Question: I tried plugging in a Rode videomicro in to C100ii. For some reason it isn't getting signal to the camera through the 3.5mm jack but it works fine with my DSLR's. I have the top handle taken off. Am I missing something obvious?
The videomicro needs plugin power, which for some reason the C100 mk2 does not supply. (You'd think a camera this price would have a jack that supplies plugin power) So unfortunately it won't be compatible. You have the option of using either a videomic pro, which supplies its own power, or try to get hold of one of Rode's new VXLR+ converters, that converts phantom power from XLR jacks to 3.5mm plugin power.
split between 5d mark4 with atomos and c100 mark 2, the picture seems better on the first (and 4k )however some videos on youtube make me question that ....thoughts...is the c100 with its 4k 35 mm chip somehow better ?
Primal Healing The 4K files on the 5d are so big they are almost unusable. If you want a great broadcast camera for professional use then the C100 is great. Probably wouldn’t get it for film productions however due to the lack of 4K and not very high bit rate for colour grading, but it’s great if you want a camera for projects that needs a very quick turnaround and gives you great results. I would personally stay away from Canon DSLR’s for professional video productions, as there’s better options out there.
What have you learned about the C100 since you've used it throughout the years? and what are the best settings for shooting motion video for short films?
If only my camera had a screen with two buttons and a joystick at 3:28 , it's lovely ergonomics. On the other hand, I'd definitely miss 4K; Sony downconverts from 6000x4000 to 4K on its A6500/A9, that is blazing sharp detail rich image with ZEISS lenses. Definitely the C100 image is no slouch either, but the technology is too old, honestly, and expensive for what it is. Even Panasonic GH5 can produce brutally great downconverting 4K. Honestly, and with all my respect, ZY, this C100m2 is pretty behind the competition as for specs. The C100 camera ergonomics are brilliant, nevertheless; especially, the foldable screen with the buttons and joystick.
Excellent vid. C100 MK II still the best deal for indies, doc-style and run-n-gun shooters in 2019.
2020 and still going strong with my c100mii .
@@gtamediaproductions1 Ditto, bro!
I just got a second C100 Mark II for my podcast studio. They are great for livestream cameras.
Nice to know that the C100 Mk 2 is still a relevant camera!
Great tips - I've had my Canon C100 MKII for several years and I picked up a few things I didn't know especially the remote browser feature. Wow!
i wasn't aware of the browser/http control feature..thanks for posting!
I lost it when you said "and there is a headphone jack, which is quite generous my canon standards" hahahahaha
If Magic lantern got involved - you’d have 4K raw. Canon purposefully kneecaps its line to protect the higher price units.
Like, disallowing clean HDMI out, or forcing a cropped/windowed 4K
Fantastic Overview. Using this camera with my class and your video had some great quick tips.
Great fun and like your style. As an idea, I would be very interested, particularly as a stills photographer to see a practical demonstration of using a wave form in a "real life" situation and how that relates directly to post.
Do a video on lenses best for this camera and what company has lenses for this camera.
Lenses that support face detection AF: - EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM - EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM *

do you have focus peaking when it's in autofocus? And how well does the viewfinder work when wearing glasses? Is it big enough for glasses?
Does the C100M2 sap alot of battery when used with the Wifi remote function? Any ballpark figure when used with 975 battery?

So can it shot in 60fps for lets say more of action style video? All I can find is slow motion and we dont want 60fps for slow motion
