    When I restrained a deck for a client, we sanded down the whole deck, reset screws, took the blower to it and then stained it with that exact same product. It is a picture perfect deck now. Glad I was right on track with decisions made. Thanks Chris for your awesome videos.

    Done a number of decks over the last 3-4 years, and a tip if you want to save your back or knees- use a 4-5' paint stick to screw into the deck brush. It essentially turns the deck brush into a broom. If you want to get super crazy, throw your paint bucket or cup on something with wheels (but where it won't tip/fall off!!). Now you can kick your paint along, dip your brush without stopping, and use both arms to really push and spread the paint out. Push in one direction with a little back brushing into the old line once you redip. This method allows you to really speed up the area you can cover with a minimal amount of physical effort and a maximum amount of pain coverage.

    I can't believe it but I actually have a pro tip for you:
    Fill a family size plastic soda bottle with the paint, make two holes in the cap.
    Now you can spread very quickly the paint on the deck board and take it with the brush.
    So much faster and cleaner.
    Bonus: the paint will stay clean in the bottle, ready for the next time.
    PS, I build decks for living

    Absolutely in love with your videos! I had to hop on my son's account to write this. :) I've been trying to stain my deck for the past year, but there just isn't enough time in the day! I swear, as a single mother to 3 boys (yes I know hahaha!!) it's so hard to do even the most basic tasks without having to interrupt it by taking them to soccer practice, or getting them out of the laundry machine (yes they're little terrors LOL!). Last time I tried to stain my deck I just got oh so furious as my littlest as he went and rolled around in the stain before it was dry.. I ended up chopping half of the deck up for firewood (LOL lord these boys test my temper sometimes). Anyways, these videos keep me going and I'm happy to say I've finally finished thanks to you! By the way, are you single? LOL

    Love the product. I usually mix about 3-4 tubes of Shermax urethanized sealant with about a quart of the deck and dock product I am going to use and go over all my deep cracks and problem areas first. Then I allow this to dry for a while come back and spray and backroll heavy first coat spray second. If I am using the standard super deck stain I will do two coats with the first being back rolled. This is my premium option. For house flippers I just spray on two coats backrolling/brushing the first.

      @@scottm4042 haha i do the exact same... id tape it too if it didnt unscrew, being hunched over like that for hours really isn't good for the back... even been kneeled down for hours isnt good on your knees/back... you wanna avoid that stuff especially if this is your career and you do it regularly. this was a small deck but even then, think about how often youre in that position daily not just from decks but maybe painting baseboards, or straining steps or w.e the case is. So yeah scott has a good point to anyone watcing this video, if it dosn't unscrew just tape the brush to the end of a pole.

    My dad was a house painter back in the 60,70,80s. I worked with him in summers. Then I moved to California. And became a Printing Press operator in Wine Country. Wine labels. In 2009 the market crashed and I lost everything. But I always had side jobs for painting. Cause people hate painting. So I just used my printing principles and used them in painting residential and commercial building. A many deck. I’m a Aikido Practitioner as well. I’m doing a deck now. I coin my painting AIKI PAINTING. We are on our knees and we have to be on our feet up and down. People really don’t realize what Mr Miyagi was teach Daniel in Karate Kid. Wax on Wax of. I use a 18 inch roller to do ceilings. With a 8 or 12 ft pole. Painting Jo Pole Work. Your bending over a lot. How is your back? Why I sit in Saizan Kneeling position as we do in Aikido.

    Is this the product you recommend using to restain decks? I did a lot of online research a few years ago to try to find the best product, and ended up being very disappointed with the result a year later, and I am a professional builder doing my best to follow exact directions. I would be very interested to hear what you think is the best product to use for deck restaining, preferably one that doesn't have a lot of prep work to remove existing coatings other than cleaning, and removing loose material.

    Once a deck is built how long should you wait to stain it?

    • @danieldavis3213
      @danieldavis3213 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Typically it is best to wait at least 1 year for all the preservatives to subside otherwise the stain will not absorb proper and will peel or flake of rather quickly. In some occasions it can take up to 2 years for the wood to naturally weather and be ready to take stain.

    • @Idahopainter
      @Idahopainter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on moisture content of the wood. A week probably but many factors will change that.

      Deck and dock is what's called an elastomeric. It's thicker and designed to block moisture more. It almost completely eliminates the wood grain and is very much like a thick paint. As the name implies it's useful for painting wood that's exposed to a lot of water or resting in water.
