I have a Simpson 4000 psi power washer and a Simpson surface cleaner. I use the surface cleaner on my driveway and sidewalks, but on my wood deck I prefer just using the power washer, usually I make up some deck cleaner using Oxi-Clean, warm water, a little dish soap. Scrub a section down, then rinse with my power washer. After a couple day's of drying, I lightly sand using a 150 grit on a sanding pole, blow it down. Then I apply a coat of oil base stain ( true oil base, mineral spirit clean up), I like Olympic Elite myself, but that's just preference. Mostly I just use a wide 4" brush, I like working the stain into the wood and getting between the boards. On my last stroke, make as long as you can reach, from dry into wet, with the grain. It helps eliminate the lap mark's. Great video Chris, you guy's do quality work. Thanks, John

Love the 5-in-1... worked with a pro painter and everytime I showed up on the job he'd say "you have you're 5-in-1?" G*d forbid it wasn't on me lol Great videos sir, much respect.

It certainly helps when the deck has structure above as far as keeping the deck in good shape both cleaning and painting

do you have a preference for what stain you use on an unpainted deck or fence.. ive found semi-transparent and solid stains seem to flake and peel off up here in canada where fully transparent stain sinks in and just fades over time, presumably at a much slower rate compared to down south.. ever take off all the solid stain and redo in transparent? is it possible or will it take you days to get all the old peeling paint off

I like the attention to detail and lengths you went to really provide a professionally quality job well done! However. I don't that your average homeowner is going to absorb the $ for the equipment.

Hi Chris I have a question. When do you strip a deck of the existing stain? I have been just power-washing, sanding, and peeling flakes with a putty knife. I just got a customer that wants their deck stripped with a chemical.

Seem where a surface cleaner will damage wood. This true is it safer then a 40 degree tip ?

Hello Chris, I have a similar deck with multiple coats of solid stain over the last 30 years on a pressure treated wood. The top costs are water based and the first coat is oil based. This spring, it started to flake off big time especially on horizontal surfaces. I tried deck stain stripper but stain is hard to remove and oil based stain don’t come off. I tried sanding and it is so think so it is long to remove and gum the paper. I rented a bigger hard wood sander and I can’t remove every things because it was too long. I could re coat on top of it however as soon as I sand or strip, the next day it is flaking on the sides so I am not confident it will hold. I need advice, I am deseperate and I don’t want to tear it down. Help?

Hi Chris Really enjoy your videos. Very helpful. I just bought my first paint sprayer. Just a couple of really basic questions. That fine paint mist that gets over everything...How do I avoid that the most? Does it matter the pressure I put the sprayer on? Low or high? I know there’s going to be some overspray but… Also is it better to spray close to the wall or further away? If you have a moment to answer I’d appreciate it
