    I'm tempted to try using beets in the same way you'd use beer or milk. Freeze the juice in cubes and add lye to the cubes while the container is in a ice bath. Keep the lye water really cool and immediately place soap in the fridge to keep the sugars in the soap from scorching which would 1) discolor the soap and 2) smell unpleasant

    Very nice color! When I originally used beet powder i was hoping for pink, but this is nice and natural looking

    The soap making process is simply amazing. I enjoyed also your choice of music that accompanied the video. My only disappointment is that I thought the final product will retain the beets color, but it didn't.

    Can you soap it? Suggestions. Carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato, mango, cucumber, strawberry (any berry for that matter). Sorry about the long list, just curious and stumbled upon this. I'm wondering if natural ingredients have a spoil date, or does the saponification preserve them? Keep up the videos, they are entertaining :)

    Just a note on your link to the Cuisinart stick blender. Cuisinart has now added a lock/unlock button on top of the stick blender. You have to push both the lock button on top and the speed button on the side. You can let off the lock button once the blender is going, but if you pulse (and don't we all?), you have to push both buttons again. It is awkward and difficult. if you look at the product picture on the link you provided, you'll see the button on the top. I ditched mine and now use Bramble Berry's new stick blender, which I love.

    I am sorry to see that the beets color was burned by the lye, I think if we freeze the beet juice we will keep more of its benefits ( I am a soap beginner and I am just guessing), please correct mz if I am wrong

      @SunATCtrade 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I am not soaping101, and not an expert by any means, but in my experience the shelf life of soaps with vegetables would like one year. Maybe even more, *as long as you add your vegetable as juice instead of water when you use them for your lye*. Never after you have achieve trace. I think I mentioned in another post that while I see some people adding vegetables after trace, not sure it is a good idea. When you substitute juice for distilled water in your lye water, the vegetables go through the saponification process, and are not easily susceptible to mold or bacteria.

    Would it be advisable to use the juice from jarred beets? I have a jar of Harvard beets in my pantry that I will never ever eat. (Hubby claimed he would eat them - they've been there for 4 years.) I have been eyeing that juice for a while now...

    • @soaping101

      Yes, using cooked beets would a viable alternative. The only difference would be that you may have beet chucks in your soap.

    When I saw "beets" I thought, wow, the soap will have and amaaaaazing color but it didn't. :( These natural colors don't make it to the saponification process and disintegrate I guess. Pitty. Nice and useful video mrs. 101! Thank you :)

      The pH is high in CP soap that is why it turned brown. If you add the juice to a HP it will be more red but is still prone to morphing over time.

      Madder root is supposed to give a red color, but mine comes out more of a mauve. (I've read that adding the madder to the lye water instead of as an infused oil gives a truer, darker color.)

      Why arnt you using a blender?

    • @MigoBurgghardti
      @MigoBurgghardti 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the trace is getting to thick too quickly then, you wouldn't have time to mix in the juice.

    • @soaping101
      @soaping101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The sugars in the beets spreed up trace/the saponification process (in a hurry). Whisking instead of stick blending will keep it fluid longer.
