Which way is your favorite way to part your hair? Are you going to try something new?!

I go for the deep side part- but only at the very front of my hair. I’ve been using a lot of the volume techniques you suggested- great results! Thank you 😊

I typically part on the side straight back, which really causes the same issue you have of the scalp showing in the back. It makes me feel bald😱😱😱 I'm going to try the zigzag part in the morning and really focus on cutting the part much shorter of a line.

I tend to center part. I have bangs and I like the look of more volume on the sides than on top

It’s so great that you are focusing so much on low density hair, so many curly youtubers have such thick voluminous hair and their tips and tricks and product recs don’t always work for us low density folks, or the results they get just aren’t realistic for us. Your videos are so helpful and affirming!

My hair is thick but thinning quickly. I feel like I’m losing curl so I like her tips. Here it’s winter and my hair tends to frizz more in the winter. I love the dove amplified textures. I was using hasks curl line but I feel after while it stripped my hair of shine. Guess I should stick with what I know works

Omg this was SO HELPFUL! I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have low density hair that wants to part all the way to the back of my head and I’ve tried so many things to keep from liking like I have a weird bald area there. But I’ve not tried anything like these tips! I wasn’t going to wash my hair until tomorrow, but I’m so exited to try this, I’m washing it today!

Reporting back… I used the first method of sectioning the crown and placing the hair backwards to cover that cowlick…and it has never looked so good. I am absolutely blown away! This is a game changer! Thank you SO MUCH, Gena. You are the BEST!!

  • @ladyvictorian1

I've recently had a number of bad wash days, which made me want to give up on this! I had been watching other videos that encouraged putting product on soaking wet hair while bent over, plopping then diffusing (from the bottom up rather than hover diffusing at the roots first). My roots looked truly bizarre and the curls were misshaped because the ends had dried so much faster than the roots. Not to mention a way too strong gel that was impervious to any scrunching out.
Going back to your method (and my usual Ouidad VitaCurl mousse and gel), damp drying and shaping the look first before diffusing gave me the voluminous, soft curls I like without any scalp weirdness. I don't have low density hair but rather very thick, fine wavy hair that doesn't sit right without some maneuvering. Thank you for the help!

Thank you for this video! This is why I have been following you for years, we have very similar hair that is low density and 3b. A lot of curly influencers have SO much hair so I just can’t relate. My hair naturally wants to part all the way back just like yours and I really struggle with it. I can’t believe I am in my mid-30s and I didn’t know all of these tricks to hide my scalp and part my hair better. 🙂 Thank you again!

I just want to say I been trying to bring back my natural curls the last 4 years. Found your videos about a year ago and by far the most detailed. I used to have long curly/wavy thick hair but over the last 20 years with coloring and hormones it has become much thinnner and low/medium porosity with a horrible cowlick at my crown. Thank you for all your tips and your blog to help shop. My hair is again changing recently - so this is a life long process - especially as we age. Your advice has been invaluable. Thank you.

I had the same problem too. Everytime I brushed its straight but when it’s dry I have curly hair. If you brush it with a deva curl and leave in conditioner and gel it helps. I scrunch out the gel in the morning or when my hair is done drying and I have no frizz for the first 2 days

    • @ALT-vz3jn

Have you tried forming the curls with a Denman brush on wet hair? My hair looks nicer the less I play with it once the products are in and my hair is formed. I apply a primer then a curl cream in soaking wet hair, form the curl clumps with the Denman then I just leave it alone until it’s dry. Sometimes I even go to bed before it’s all dry and it still looks nice in the morning.
If I play too much with scrunching it my waves look like ramen noodles, not good.

This video is even more helpful now than it was 5 months ago! I had covid at the end of November. My hair started shedding in January. It's still shedding in March. Gina, could you maybe do a video on T.E., Telegen Effluvium? I am stumped at what to do with my poor wavy curls as I wait for the shedding to stop and regrowth to start showing. The texture and density is so different now! Very wispy, low low density. This, TE is a huge thing, affecting many people now. I considered a wig or hairpiece but was advised against, as it could potentially create permanent damage, as opposed to this 1-2 year problem. I know that many of your viewers must be silently struggling with this issue. I'm so glad that I watched this video to be educated on a type and texture of hair that I was unfamiliar with, all those months ago. It is very helpful as I am learning about my hair all over again.

i always style upside down and was a bit skeptical when i saw this thinking it couldn’t make that much of a difference but i tried it yesterday and WOW! only downside is since i air dry there is definitely a loss of volume but for me that’s not as big a deal as the amount of scalp that was showing beforehand. so thank you! 💖

I have recently begun wearing my hair curly after many years of blowing it straight. I have to tell you how helpful and informative your videos have been. My hair is low density as well so in addition to having to cover the sparse area in the back of my head, I also deal with the side of my head where large curl clumps reveal too much of my scalp. Thank you for this video! I have the same low density hair, and long part with cowlick at the end of the part, which is on the back side like yours. I also have at least three different curl patterns on my head. Curliest at the back, and damn near straight at the top...also thinning on top, so I have to wear it shorter. Oh, and the right side is curlier than the left.🫤
I dread hair wash day, but look forward to trying some of your hacks. Do you have more videos on products? I will look into the Dove you were using.
Finally, can you please share the info on the brush you were using? Thanks so much Gena!

Thanks for all these tips. I usually part slightly over my right eye, off center. I do that mostly because of my very curly front pieces tend to go that way. Sometimes I’ll part it the other way day two or three. I have your curls almost exactly. The back of my head only curls toward the ends, even coiling and twisting doesn’t help.

Ok, I'm scared, I'm going to wash my hair and was thinking about parting my hair differently, because I have short hair and wanted a different look...girl, youre reading my mind 🤣🤣

Hello Gena Marie! Love your videos very helpful especially adding more volume at the root, if you don’t mind me asking what hair color do you have in this video very flattering & I’d like to change my color

Thank you! It’s my natural color, a light/medium ash brown. Perhaps the lighting is making it warmer here because it’s pretty cooled toned naturally

I have always styled upside down, I am going to try right side up with a brush today and see what happens.

So maybe I missed it, but I was curious on when exactly you should part your hair? When it's still wet? I read for best volume to wait until your hair is dry but that doesn't work for me.
