Bro, every media outlet does this. They look for a prominent name to criticize to get more views, the same was done to Ronaldo last week; it's nothing new and it's unfortunately fair game when you're a public figure. Nevertheless, they still made some valid points but they forgot to mention that Messi was nursing a recurring injury. I hate to say it but Messi doesn't have the same durability as he once had. In the past, only horrible injuries would have kept him out but this time, he needs to recuperate to recover his fitness. However, old age is catching up to him and with those years on his legs, it's going to take some time before he even gets back to who he once was.

*Mad fangirls:* B-bu-but FIFA rigged it for Argentina DURRRR
Yeah CONMEBOL and FIFA were rolling out the red carpet for Argentina during the Copa. That’s why they suspended Argentina’s manager Scaloni for the match against Peru just because Argentina was late returning for the second half. Because when you're secretly rooting for a team, obviously you start by disciplining their manager, right?
And let's not forget the crowning moment of favoritism: Messi getting hacked by Chile’s defender Gabriel Suazo, ending up injured. What happened then? Oh nothing, because Suazo didn’t even get a yellow card. Talk about showing love to FIFA’s so-called "golden boy"! What kind of pro-Argentina referee fails to penalize the player responsible for injuring Argentina’s main player and captain? I guess FIFA had a brief lapse in memory about their supposed fondness for Messi, nearly costing Argentina the Final against Colombia as their playmaker was forced out in the second half.
But wait, there's more! Ecuador was given a penalty in the quarterfinals and their tying goal in the 90th minute was allowed after a VAR check. I thought VAR was supposed to be on Argentina’s side? So, let’s get this straight: FIFA wanted Argentina to win so badly that they generously gift Ecuador a penalty when Argentina was only leading by one goal? A perfect technique to risk Argentina going out in the penalty shootouts, just like the two Copa Finals against Chile. And not to mention, Ecuador’s tying goal happened during stoppage time, almost leading to Argentina's exit, again why did the supposedly pro-Argentina VAR allow this?
And in the final against Colombia, a blatant handball by a Colombian defender during a cross was left unaddressed, igniting Scaloni's ire. Where was the famed "Argentina always gets penalties" fairy tale then? Shouldn't FIFA, in their supposedly pro-Argentina wisdom, have handed over a penalty on a silver platter to pave Argentina's way and avoid a dreaded shootout scenario? Whatever happened to the overplayed "Penalty for Argentina"? If those were even remotely true, how come Argentina didn’t receive a single penalty throughout the entire Copa America tournament?
Of course, who could forget Argentina’s first goal in this final being ruled as offside. It was clearly offside, but I thought VAR or FIFA was supposed to be rooting for Argentina? Why did they disallow their goals as offside, just like in the 2022 World Cup against Saudi Arabia, where three of their goals were nullified for offside, culminating in an embarrassing loss to Saudi Arabia?
Because nothing screams "rigged" like perpetually putting the supposedly favored team on the verge of elimination. Truly, a masterful, galaxy-brain strategy for "rigging" a tournament.
So yeah, if FIFA were trying to hand Copa America to Argentina, they sure have a funny way of showing it. Almost as if Argentina simply won through skill and determination, rather than some elaborate plan. But hey, never let reality get in the way of a good coping mechanism. Keep seething!

I am a Messi fan. But those fans that blindly say that Messi carried Argentina for so many years are just biased without caring about the facts. It is true Messi did not have a good tournament this time. He tried his best and it was unfortunate that he got injured. But it is true the team played better without him. He didn't kick up a fuss, he just got overwhelmed and the team gave him the space and left him alone. He was quietly in with the substitutes in the team huddle in extra-time. He respected the coach & his teammates and tried to draw as little attention to himself as possible. Despite his status, he has always been a team player. Yes, he is older and he may be past his prime but he is still a valuable player in the Argentina set-up given the respect he has and his vast experience.

About time somebody else stood up up front! Of course Argentina looked better without Messi, Messi hasn't been fit since that tackle vs Chile, and then the tackle in the final on top of that... but they weren't actually better without him, as defenders weren't as scared of Nico Gonzales as they are of Messi! a half injured Messi was still able to almost to make a run and score, which unfortunately was blocked by Alvarez.
It still took 112 minutes, and Colombia getting tired, for them to exploit the subsequent spaces and gaps left by Colombia!
Spaces which a healthy Messi would've exposed, as we've seen him make plenty of sprints in the last 10 min this year!
Nico gonzales might've looked great, like he always does, but once again did absolutely nothing in front of goal, and if Argentina had lost, he would've been blasted for missing at least 3 chances.

All the talk is about Messi and their clinical strikers but this is very, very defensive minded team. Much like Carlos Bilardo's Argentina in the 80's and 90's. They allowed only one goal in this tournament. When they had offensive minded coaches who wanted pretty football (Basile, Bielsa, Pekerman) they never achieved anything. But Sabella's defense first approach took them to the World Cup Final in 2014 and also Scaloni's "defense first" approach to all these new trophies. It's not pretty to watch but the results are quite amazing.

Absolute bullsh*t from Ale Moreno. I've always respected him and his opinions, quite surprised at him being so harsh on Messi.
After Messi left the field, the Argentine midfield immediately seemed to be disjointed and repeatedly gave away the ball cheaply. Suddenly the spaces that were created by Messi (by pulling defenders towards him), were no longer there and Argentina had to fight to survive the Colombian onslaught. The Argentine defence had to suffer a lot when Colombia gained even more confidence and Colombia's defence wasn't not really challenged throughout the 90 mins.
Finally in Extra Time, when the Colombian defenders looked extremely tired, Argentina took great advantage of it and scored a goal through Lautaro Martinez. Up until then, it did not really look like they were gonna score.
So, in essence, it's absolutely NOT true that Argentina looked better without Messi, in fact Messi would have easily helped the team create more chances, and probably finished off the game within 90 mins hadn't he been injured and taken off.

These so called pundits are hypocrites. Don’t judge him with this one game. It wasn’t even that bad. He came in with an injury. His presence in the team alone lifts the spirit of the whole team and the whole nation. Respect!

ARGENTINA just won a trophy and this is what a major media house is saying...........Messi was fit twice in this competition and he had 10 dribbles and 9 big chances in these two big games. But these clowns always find way to remove Messi's good and also spill sh!t about him. It's a shame. If it's Ronaldo who was a$$, they will still praise him like he did something.

Messi deserves it a lot though. For years he contributed a lot, but the team wasn't good enough. Now it's a great team. He isn't able to do as much anymore, but it's ok.

what exactly is valid in their point? That a 37-year-old man who took them to 8 finals should run like a 16-year-old? You are not a Messi fan, stop lying? It is a team and one tree don't make a forest.....

Argentina were motivated to win for Messi, it WAS Leo that aided Argentina to victory. They coast and rely on Messi's individual brilliance if he did not get injured. Because he did, they had to focus even more on keeping the clean sheet while trying to attack while not giving the ball way at the midfield.

Messi has been injured and never recovered. He carried the team all alone all these years and now just one game they win without him. GOOD. You cry and we celebrate. No one deserves it more than Messi. He suffered his whole carrier because of his teammates letting him down. Messi is the GOAT and his haters are LOOSERS. hahahah

One thing I don't like about media is their way of hooking people with scandals and controversy. Don't give negative feedback to say something and sell your show. We know negativity sells but you can't just go ahead and preach negativity about messi and abuse your freedom of choice to misguide people. If not messi then who? Enjoy him. He still has been contributing to each of the matches - Mentally, tactically, emotionally to the team, to those who love football and to his country. Messi is infinity. Celebrate him while he can play. And, yes he is the GOAT, not emotionally but statistically too. There you go!
