  • It's been 14 months since I bought my 2006 Ford Focus ZXW SE and it's time to go over the maintenance and reliability, and what I've learned in my year with this car.
    I originally bought this little station wagon as a backup to my first leave-behind purchase. I've spent about 14 months with this car now and it's been surprisingly good, with some basic maintenance and repairs that were needed since buying it, and no major red flags to be overly concerned about. I go over some of the repairs I've had to do on this car including the front brakes, front steering link kit, battery, two oil changes, and some worn out bits.
    We then go on a quick road test to talk about how my impressions and opinion about the Ford Focus has changed in the past year and some thoughts on it now. I also talk a bit about the future for my car now that I'm a Ford Focus owner.

      Pretty much! I'm impressed with this little car, we'll see how things go closer to winter as I expect I'll be driving it more as we get closer to the end of the year.

    I've bought two Ford Focuses of the same vintage (2003, 2006). One was a sedan and the other a wagon. The sedan was bulletproof; no AC, no power windows, nothing. Couldn't kill it. Sold it at 300,000 kms and was still going strong. I still own the wagon, it's been through 2 daughters and has 250k on it. Has all the bells and whistles for the model (heated seats, power mirrors and windows, etc.). It's been a little harder on maintenance, but overall great value for the $. I think you chose well for a second car. It's a shame the newer Focuses built after 2012 are such garbage. This gen was a real winner. Again, good choice!

      The second generation Focus (North America) seems like junk, I haven't driven one but they don't look very nice. I ended up selling this one back at the start of the year, managed to make a bit of money off of it.

      just curious which year focus was harder on maintenance?

    • @geoffschmidtler6735
      @geoffschmidtler6735 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BlitzEvade The 06 for sure, but only because of the extra tech. Fuses blow for the heated seats, climate control issues, the rear hatch is an ongoing maintenance issue, and the rear shocks were harder to install than the sedan's. Different mounting points because it's a wagon. Total pain in the rear. But... I still have it, and it's still going strong! Nearing 280k now, and the daughter who drives it is not easy on it.

    We bought my sister-in-law's 2006 Ford focus zx4 years back just to have it as an extra car. Had 80,000 when we bought it and now has 145,000. I've changed the oil every 3,000 religiously; replaced shocks, the AC needed something small years ago. That is all we have done. Zero mechanical issues with this boring little car. I'll even take it on the freeway every now and then, at 85 mph it is very smooth and pretty quiet. Very zippy little car. It has been very dependable.

    California here ours is a 2005. Second owner. Got it at 125,000miles. It’s at 290,000miles now. Just did rewelded the cracking exhaust manifold and valve cover gasket along with new spark plugs and some other used non cracked coil packs. Runs and drives amazing and 30mpg around here. These cars with the few issues they have like the rear hatch wires and the ones mentioned above are indestructible cars. Love our wagon. Hope to see 500,000 miles out of it. No check engine lights or issues. Just passed California emissions testing yesterday.

      California definitely seems like the right market for these cars since it'll never rust out there. That was the only thing that ultimately kills these cars out here. I'd have kept mine longer if I hadn't moved.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I imagine it does! Ford was lagging with the Focus in North America, the Mk2 basically launched in Europe around the time we got the original Mk1.

    Hey im in ontario and looking at buying a sedan 2007 Ford Focus with 123,000 km. Do you think 4800 certified is a good price and are they still worth it in 2023? Is yours still running and driving?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up selling mine last year since I moved back to Ontario and couldn’t bring two vehicles. Sounds like a decent enough price, as long as you get it inspected by a trusted mechanic first. These can have a lot of rust issues with the frame, even at low mileage.

      @@PRNTestDrive I looked at it and it wasn't in good shape. I ended up not buying the car. I think I will hold out for a toyota, even if I have to finance one. My mom has been financing her toyota for 7 years and so far she's driven it 5 years without any major issues. Any issue it has had has been minor and has been covered under warranty.

    Such a weird video. 3rd party battery?!? Ford does not make there own, find who does and buy it if that makes you feel happy. The Focus is a great car if you can find one that was taken care of and even in that case you might have to break out the wrenches and DIY.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll agree that this generation Focus is great. My specific car suffered from the same problems any of them do when driven in Canada, or Québec specifically, the frame rusted through and wasn’t safe to drive. I ended up dumping it before moving to Ontario. I’d certainly consider another wagon as a daily if I needed something, I enjoyed the drive and ride of this, plus the overall flexibility of the wagon.
